I don't think any of the three will be walk up starts at all, I'd imagine they may play in 50% maybe to allow some rotation of players. After last night I think we can safely assume we will never see Pitto, TDK and Levi in the same team again. TDK
takes on the role that Levi plays for mine.

If Charlie comes back and is able to play anywhere near his best next year opposition backmen will have nightmares. A forward line including Charlie , Harry, and TDK sounds quite exciting.
Not with Teague coaching.

The only reason Plow will never be AA contention is his offensive side is next to non existent. He is quite happy well the pill pisses out of his zone, then resets for the next I50 for the oppo.

If he could add some I50 or metres gained, he would be in AA discussions.

I know he doesn't do it every game, but there's been a few times this season where he's kicked some absolute darts I50 that have led to goals.

He's not in the Simmo/Docherty/Saad/Williams role, where the offensive side of their game is almost more important than the defensive side. He is a stopper first and foremost.

2) if we are relying on Betts to attract players, we are doing it wrong.

We can thank him for Jack Martin and potentially Zac Williams choosing us for less money than they were offered elsewhere.

Connections and draw cards are huge in attracting players. See McCarthy/Neale, Shiel/Devon Smith, Lynch/Prestia, Clarkson has attracted many players to Hawthorn. We should be using every possible advantage we have because as we have seen previously it’s not easy to convince elite talent to come to a team starved of recent success.

The problem is, he kicked 10 in his first 6 matches of the year, and 3 in the next 9.

Add on another 6 months before our next game, it's really not looking good.
Just like Cripps and Levi they needed a rest didnt get it and staggered to the line .
Imo you can put all 3 of their form down to bad team management .
With Jack Russell at the club really surprised all 3 werent rested at some stage .
Shortsighted from the club chasing the holy coveted but highly improbable finals spot .

Eddie did miss the Swans game

This pre-occupation with the retention of Eddie is risible. He is performing a number of important functions on and off the field. Everyone seems to imply that if he retired he’d automatically be replaced by an actual or guaranteed match winner. It’s all pie in the sky thinking accompanied by neurotic hand wringing. Move on.
As for Simmo he’s 36. He can’t play forever.

I don’t think Plow’s kicking is any better or worse than Doc, Jones, Simmo .. Willo, Sammo and Weiters slightly better but still way too many shockers .. think we’ve forgotten what it’s like to have genuine top notch foot skills coming out of defence. The worst thing is, our guys are not even taking risky options - they genuinely just fluff them.

I reckon the more Plow bites off, the better his kick is, tbh.

I don’t think Dodoro will be as difficult to trade with this year. The game has changed for the Bombers and for Dodoro - the jungle drums are beating. If players want out, the Bombers will have to undertake a rebuild of some sort, I suspect he’ll get trades done for a fair price and with a humble manner.

A big issue for the Bombers is that they don’t have any trade currency over 26yrs and they won’t want to lose that core group 26 and under. I think they need to sit down with each player and see who is willing to stick it out for a few years .. if they get a few good players (more than 1 or 2) from that 26 and under group wanting out, they will be forced to go full rebuild, imo.

You underestimate the stubbornness of those filthy cheats. They are not going to hand us a quality player on the cheap.

They took great delight in the fact that the Daniher non-trade denied us Papley.

Sure, but we need to be an attractive destination first. Then, leverage relationships. Also anyone coming because of Betts would know they are doing it for one season.

Ha! literally just posted that I think they’ll be easier to deal with this year. Don’t think they will hold onto any players who aren’t 100% invested in riding out the next couple of years in the bottom 8. They can’t afford to.

all year ... watch his performance against Gary Rohan , Jake Stringer , Jaidyn Stephenson , Adelaide game in general ....
So he got beaten by 3 players that are notoriously difficult matchups across 18 games?
I don't think that you're making the point that you think you are tbh.

There is some talk of a power struggle between Dodoro and Richardson.
Richardson probably understands that the traditional */ Dodoro approach is/has been detrimental to them.
Dodoro is tight with the coteries who are powerful allies at that club.
Will be fascinating to see if Richardson can drag them into the modern era ...

My feeling is that even the coteries will understand where things are at this time around ... They should look at us as an example of how bad things can get if you keep your head in the sand and allow powerbrokers to influence football decisions.

I'm confident that this upcoming pre-season will show up some surprises.....in fact, little doubt at all.
We're going to have at least a couple of our somewhat unsighted young guys really show up and demand a starting spot.

Sitting in the background right now, are; Dow, Stocker, Kemp, Philp, O'Brien, Cottrell and Honey.
There are three or four there I can make a good claim for, but we'll see.

Main thing now is ensure they all come back fit and committed to a strong pre-season. No play for you Russell.

RE. Viney. I've warmed to him. Smart player although not the best ball user.
He's a type we need to support other mids. Really a very unselfish player.

They couldn't afford to not take 2 top 10 picks for Daniher, and yet there they are

The problem is the whole club is run by coteries and it takes a huge organisational shift to change. We didn’t change our attitude straight after the John Elliott regime, it took the 2007-2015 failed rebuild for us to wake up. Essendon didn’t change after the drug scandal. It’s embedded in their DNA and in my opinion only years at the basement of the ladder may help them realise.

Coteries running the show with Dodoro as the front man for recruiting is like a spoilt kid playing AFL live. No deal gets done unless it heavily favours Essendon and the objective is to screw over the other team winning trade week in the process.

Will be interesting to see how they handle Daniher because they have backed themselves into a corner on that one. Saad will probably have to go through the PSD to get away because no one will meet their ridiculous demands. They will demand Wines for Fantasia. It’s the Essendon way.
