WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

I've always harped on about how soft he is, however, in the game against the Tigers, he tried his heart and laid a few tackles on much bigger players.

Agreed. I had the same knock on him but was really pleased with his contest work in the Grand Final. He may have turned the corner. At his age what we saw as softness may have come with a drop in confidence. The miss in the GF was bad but on reflection when he took the mark he stopped and looked like he had decided to take the set shot. There were a number of team mates around him who may have called him to play on.

Interesting that he had a number of tackles whilst Menegola who is a big body had none.

We can not pull out in getting Cameron as we already have Smith and we have Higgins lined up...Higgins and Smith would be a waste of time with out Cameron
We must pull out if they want two first rounders or one first rounder and one of our few quality kids. We have close to the worst list profile in the league. We neeed to draft lots of high quality kids.

ps we only have smith so far and he didnt cost a pick.

Menegola was close to our best in the GF l wouldn't even dare make a comparison.

I'm pretty sure I've seen him more than anyone on this board and I'm confident in that. His hands are anything but fumbly. Not sure what you've been watching. He is a deadset gun.

And every single player in the history of footy has fumbled at times. It's the game. This kid has clean hands.
I’ve only seen highlights but I’d love to know more about why you think he’ll be a good player. How do you think he compares to Constable? What makes you so confident in him as a player?

We will have one first rounder minimum and if you think we are locks to be getting quality kids with picks in the mid to high 20s then you’re kidding us. The stats just don’t back you up.

Added to the fact that this year just has to be a lottery. There’s no exposed form for half the field. If we were every going to get reemed then this is the year.

Play as hard as we can. Do everything we can to screw GWS but DO NOT lose Cameron over two picks that will fall in the 20s.

I could barely cherry pick two players in the last decade picked in the 20s (exc FS and Academy) with the ability of hindsight I’d rather have over 5 years of Cameron’s best. TK is about the only one and I’d still rather Cameron. There a fair sample size there.

He has terrific endurance which is the first thing that stood out to me ... he just keeps running. He's also really good in close with his vision and distribution ... he has really good hands which is paramount for a inside mid. I reckon he's more than an inside mid though because I seen games as a junior where he had the ability to break away from contests at speed and hit up targets by foot. It's something that's overlooked with Cooper. He is very versatile and he isn't slow for an inside mid. He's also a really good user of the ball.

He has a really good head on his shoulders and his leadership on the field was noticeable too.

Constable doesn't have the same tank nor the same speed.

Did Brent Moloney asked to be traded as part of the ottens deal? No but he was coerced to go.
Miers is a poor man's Shayne Breuer, he let us down badly in the finals and big games during the year, he has currency, I don't want poor decision makers in our team, where there's a knock on him that he picks and chooses if he puts his body on the line, there was a number of times during the year he choose the wrong option, his miss in the grand final was critical
Miers is only young. He's a running machine. Those guys don't grow on trees.

Why not compare

Menegola 13 Disposals, 2Goals, 5 marks, 0 Tackles, 2 I50's, 306 MG, 1 Goal assist, 84.6% DEF

Miers 14 Disposals, 1.1 Goals, 5 marks, 2 Tackles, 4 I50's, 247 MG, 1 Goal assist, 85.7% DEF
[/QUOTE

Season 21.5/13.5 please BB, no comparo.

People that want to pick on young Miers for being a bit chicken at times.....Give this kid time he is a smart footballer and in time he won't chicken out at all...go watch Joel Corey in first few years he pulled out. and have a look how hard he was in the end
I agree, Miers is young and has a young body. Once he puts on a bit more muscle he'll be taking players on. He's a very good chase down tackler already.

Not even the fanciful media types are putting forward Miers as a trade option. And yet we have discussion here about it on our own board.

No. Chance. Whatsoever.

Get to trade time and it seems to become, "I don't really like Player X, so we should trade them"

I hope Constable stays he had shown good leadership skills as well. And I think they could develop well together as our next group of midfielders with Parfitt.
Stephens seems like he works really hard to train that’ll be a huge asset. And great that Selwood spent some time with him this year.

Since 15-16? Did you set-up a lookout with binoculars overlooking his school oval or something? :p
Jack The Godfather was all over him before the leg injury... He posted about him and I was like Who the **** are you talking about.

But he was right. For all the usernames and sometime left of centre options.... Jack has a very good record of info and calls.... mostly

GO CAtters

Seriously he is 20 and will continue to improve why would you get rid of him. He is one of the hardest working players on our list. Just stupid really

I think GWS will come in with a list and Miers will be on it, then it's up to our management to try talk a player to GWS, if we want Cameron, or we walk away. GWS won't want just picks, for a 2 time Coleman medalist, the most games played at the club and most goals, with 2-4 years left in him. Those guys don't grow on trees, it would like us trading hawk 4 years ago, for a couple of picks in 20s. Wellsy doesn't deal with clubs to rip them off, he's a fair operator and if we get Cameron we'll need to pay accordingly. So the club has to make a decision is Cameron worth it? My answer is no, with our guys coming out and saying we will not sell the farm, clubs will be lining up and trying to get Cameron to change his mind. Worst case we keep all our first rounders and get some games into dekoning.
