People's perceptions are what counts, tho, in the real world - not judicial decisions based on technicalities.

This is a very dystopic view of the world, but even putting that aside... I for one perceive the Brisbane Lions as the sane entity as the Bears. They just took Fitzroys branding and a few players who have long since retired.

My point was about perceptions: what folk see, hear and believe. It becomes their truth. And perceptions can be more powerful than the actual facts. Especially in the modern media. Politics is a classic example.

And as some other poster said here, the fans look at the club name and the colors. And in that respect the Brisbane Lions are generally perceived not to be the Brisbane Bears. That's the perception, irrespective of any court ruling. Like it or not.

To argue otherwise is reminiscent of the woodcutter's axe - the handle was replaced, and then the blade was replaced, but the woodcutter still says it's his original axe.

there’s not much more the afl could do
Until Evans arrived 2 years ago AFL did everything they could for Suns NOT to succeed. 8 years in metal sheds, first time coach, underfunded in every aspect and son on. I bet the metal sheds are still there. North can have them and see how you go.

Also check the AFL funding for WB, St Kilda, North, Melbourne, Lions in the last 10 years. Even the richest clubs were getting 11M last year. There were years when WB, St Kilda were getting close to the same amount.

You want to grow the game, make it national you start the expansion teams properly. Not that incompetent rubbish AFL headquarters showed with Suns. In any normal business you would be fired or bankrupt. But yeah, blame Suns.

Afl want to be able to televise 2 local games into each state every weekend.

Afl are already televising too many games in Melbourne.

AFL want to support footy in growth markets. Namely nsw & qld.

Afl have an oversaturation of teams in a stagnated growth market called Melbourne.

Gold coast will be fine..

How much longer? Seriously.

I keep hearing crap about how they have 12 players with under 50 games playing... They've had 12 players with under 50 games playing for 6 years now!

Stuart Dew looks like an absolute dud coach, but they recommitted to him long-term on the back of 2019, a season they finished second bottom.

Matthew Rowell injured... But they always have a long injury list. Every single one of their last 8 years, they've had a long injury list. It's time to stop saying they're unlucky; this is just incompetent conditioning.

There is also no question they hold the record of most first round draft pick busts.

Matthew Rowell injured... But they always have a long injury list. Every single one of their last 8 years, they've had a long injury lost. It's time to stop saying they're unlucky; this is just incompetent conditioning.

Dews contract comes up next year, also with the way contracts are structured now they are only 6 month payouts for clubs funded by the AFL.

We had no injuries last year after revamping the conditioning at the end of 2019, all our injuries bar the Bowes and Farrar injuries last week have been knees which is bad luck. Day, Witts, Rowell, Budarick all knees, 2 ACLs and 2 PCLs, all players who are best 22 for us.

Yeah we have been awful, but this week's performance isn't one to sound off on the club, Geelong are very good down there and very rarely lose. If we lose to Hawthorn in Darwin next week, then yeah serious alarm bells.

11th season (10 completed).
3rd coach.
No finals.
Best finish has been 12th.
+/-130 players, not including those who never debuted.
55 wins. 167 losses. All-time percentage of 72%.
Only twice have they had 8+ wins in a season.
Five times bottom two (two wooden spoons).
Only 12 players in 10 seasons have polled >10 Brownlow votes.

Yep, Australian Rules participation amongst juniors and females in SE Queensland is through the roof, exponential growth. Rugby League seriously threatened among the next generation of adults, and they thought a decade ago it would be soccer that'd be their greatest existential threat. Suns ain't going nowhere.

I read in another thread here the Gold Coast NRL team are a basket case even by NRL standards and will be the first to go. In that case the AFL will do whatever it takes to keep the Suns going because they can monopolise the whole city
They’re doing okay so far this season. 5-6 with a points differential of -27

They’re 4 years older than the Suns but at least they have 3 finals campaigns to show for it.

Move St.Kilda there.
St Kilda need to go to Darwin if anything. There’s a club up there in the NTFL who are referred to as the Saints, sing the same song & actually breed success. 32 premierships from 50 or 51 grand finals in 68 years. Made finals 65 times.

Merge them and rebrand the Southern Districts Crocs if you must because they wear the same colours.

There are other clubs who need to come under scrutiny long before the Suns. It took Freo 18 years to make a Grand Final, and that's a club based in a traditional AFL state. They have a good core of young players atm and provided they hold on to them should play finals in the next few years.

I'm surprised that people are using yesterday's game to have a go at them. To be in the game against Geelong in Geelong for as long as they were yesterday actually showed some promise I thought.

So what? People seem to suffer from this delusion that teams either exist or don't exist based on their success on the field. But there is no relegation in the AFL. Teams continue to exist if the AFL believes they have a chance of eventually making money and attracting lots of members, that's all it is.

Don’t know about folding but there is a real lack of engagement with the suns by the locals.

Im associated with football up here, lots of kids playing footy but no one really cares about the suns, no one seems to barrack for them.

I've also never really understood this line of thinking either. North on the bottom of the ladder...relocate them to Tasmania. Suns yet to play finals and close to the bottom, fold them and bring in Tasmania. Either relocation or folding for either is just not going to happen.

awesome.

now do the first 10 years of your own club.
or the first ten years of Hawthorn
or the first ten years of St Kilda (f**k it - do the first hundred years of St Kilda)
