Andrews and Labor smashed the LNP at the 2018 election so much so that the LNP lost Hawthorn and barely hung onto Brighton. The biggest fear for Andrews are the Greens, which keep pinching inner suburban seats, and then putting pressure on the Govt to build injecting facilities right opposite primary schools. It saves lives, I keep hearing.

It does, better quality skag for the kiddies.

The day of reckoning is coming. Andrews, Merlino, Pallas will all disappear overseas as the previous Labor Ministers did, with their huge fat pensions in tow.
If you think it is expensive living in Melbourne, wait and see what it is like in 10 years.

Does that mean my house value is going up? Awesome!

21 years ago Labor won office with no debt and a promise from Bracks and Brumby that the ALP would never again go into the debt Cain/Kirner incurred.
That promise lasted until 2007 when they agreed to spend 23 billion on the desal plant which ended up costing about 28-30 billion. Vics paid for a standby desal plant that was not used, despite all of the climate change doomsayers.

Circa 2020 just prior to Covid, Andrews announces a 60 billion debt to be used on public works and creating jobs. Not a care in the world. Interest rates are at record lows, and the ABC keep saying repaying the debt will cost us bugger all as we can afford it. it was projected that by 2024, the State Govt would have to spend 13% of its budget to cover payments on 60 billion.

Then came Covid.

This debt is now 150 billion and climbing alarmingly. Andrews has sold off anything and everything he could with the exception of Vic Roads. What Pallas and Merlino and Andrews do not say is what proportion of the budget will have to set aside to pay off $150bn debt? 25%,30% or more? What happens if interest rates move 2-5% in the next decade?

Answer: Public servants will be the first to go. Police, fireys, nurses and teachers will probably be slashed by 30-50% or they will be forced to take huge pay cuts. The Govt will have to find a way to try and introduce a property tax on all properties irrespective of their value to boost tax receipts.

The day of reckoning is coming. Andrews, Merlino, Pallas will all disappear overseas as the previous Labor Ministers did, with their huge fat pensions in tow.

Can you list the public assets the govt has privatised?

Well well.. didn’t Martin Foley exit the presser with some steam coming outta the ears…

When you sell your property for a million above asking price to someone who is holding big government contracts, you’d want to expect some hard hitting questions Marty. Don’t want to answer? Good, take a hike.

This is fake news.

He was the executor of the will of his late father, who owned the property. Fact. 1.
He divested his interest in the property upon becoming a Minister. Fact. 2.
This information was in the documents regarding members and their interests. Fact. 3.
He did not know who bought the property. Fact. 4.

It cannot possibly be proven therefore he has any links to the company concerned.

Therefore the journalist Julia Bradley is a disrespectful bitch.

as a member of the ALP i can tell you that yes what you say is true (in that the ALP of today is different from 30 years ago), but not the why.

If the ALP was still banging the workers of the world unite drum, it would poll worse than the greens. why, because we dont have the sweat equity jobs that the alp was built on in this economy any more.

and even in the sectors still with union representation, that has changed. closed shops are mostly gone, and many people are choosing not to be a union member. add to that unions now cant even unite amongst themselves (ie nurses and cfmeu have campaigned for the libs/greens in some recent elections, and there is a split in the CFMEU between the miners and the builders).

in the past unions had political power, but thats because the power was invested in them by the people. The people have moved on, so unions now are glorified employment agents.

as to the why, its twofold. firstly in expanding economies you dont need a union to protect you, and employers/libs used this time brilliantly to create a narrative that unions hurt your hip pocket. Add to that peoples perceptions of themselves have changed. Most people no longer consider themselves working class. Most think of themselves as middle income - be they on $40k or $400k (i kid you not, we are a nation who thinks we are all the average!). Again, the perception has been created that unions are for poor jobs, so if your successful (i know...) you dont need one.

the ALP today is basically half the greens, and half the old liberal wets. and this is because the old supporters are pushing up daisies and no longer exist.
The Greens have nothing to do with Labor.
Labor's climate policy is an International disgrace. They back gas and coal and pretend not to.
I don't know how you can support this party. You should join the Greens if you give a s**t.
