It essentially meant we got Dougs and Ryder for pick 22 with the points difference. Good deal.

Also that future 4th from Port ended up being one of the picks in the Hind trade.

win/win for both us and port. upgraded their initial pick they used to draft Howard. managed to turn a KPD which that had a few of, into a KPF.

we get the KPD we need.

i just don't see the same scenario happening with ladhams.

Couldn't agree more. And which break are you cutting up currently?

Am in Ireland mate...and live a good bit away from anything decent. Most of the waves are on the west coast. I live on the east coast. I was in Co. Sligo, Strand Hill not long ago (worth looking up if you're interested)...but not much going on. I'm not great to be honest, another spot is Lahinch...which would be more my level 😅

When I think about trading Long it concerns me. The guy has so much bloody potential, imagine if he got himself super-fit. He could be a gun.

We've just got a new development coach and a new fitness coach. Can we give them a crack at Longy for a season before we get rid of him? The idea of him ripping it up for Essendon makes me physically ill.

i agree

Long with confidence in the role he is playing is a different beast. he drops confidence and he's a shell of a player.

Forget about Ben King. How would the Gold Coast look with Tom Lynch or Charlie Dixon up forward. They were poached without the twin connection or the supporter connection, and went to top clubs (a premier in fact). Where was the uproar then, you cantankerous fop?

Excellent point!

Tbh with all this positive talk around Ben King coming home..I don't think it will happen...either this year or next..

If STEELE could help BRUCE get to the fitness never achieved before, then maybe there should be 3 or 4 young guys moving in with STEELEY over the off and pre season and get them to do everything he does and more ......CLARK, BYTEL, BYRNES CONNOLlY and whomever else might benefit from the great Capn JACKS regime.

Agreed but they obviously weren't for Josh BRUCE so heres hoping the hew guys are way ahead!
Can't believe ppl think Steele is responsible for Josh Bruce's fitness, what a croc, Josh Bruce is responsible, on top of doing a bit of training 2 times a week he also hired a PT 3 days a week. but hey that doesn't count right.

Maybe it's an indicator that Bruce was a slacker who did the bare minimum, maybe part of the reason we shipped him out, maybe a fair part of why he had such a bad year in 2020, maybe Bevo put it on Bruce to improve or don't play. maybe it was #1 pick Jamara that made him do it.

but ffs, it's not as if Jack spent his offseason training Bruce.

Fair enough too ...it was just a throw away line ...no biggie! The important part of it really is as has been said...the new whip crackers will hopefully exact their pound of flesh!

Don’t quote me but I think Richo’s sons may have played with him .
There was also a story going around that The Trac swapped to a few clubs looking for a premiership in his jnr years.
This was a concern as he wouldn’t wait around.

There's lots of clubs who actively recruit the gun kids from other clubs to hunt flags... especially in YJFL 'Gold' Sections.

Some of the clubs around Kew and Hawthorn are renowned for it. It happens too often in junior sport for mine... parents usually are the ones driving it.

From memory Petracca only did Auskick at one club, moved to Park Orchards for most of his juniors and then finished up elsewhere.

Over rating him a bit mate. He has had quite a few chances especially in the easier positions. Looks fit to me.

We did bid on him in his draft year.

He is an elite runner also which we said we'd target.

He's got good skills and has been dominant at VFL level.

His knock is he is quite soft though.

Softer than Hill?

Maybe we need a witch doctor to do some magic down at Moorabbin. Break our curse of bad luck. Worth a shot. Anyone know one?
Perhaps an exorcism 🤔

100% man, It 's been 7 years. I've had kids, changed profession, bought a house, got married, buried my cat, got a dog, tried to take up skateboarding, surfing, and drums again like a middle aged idiot. Travelled, lived, loved, and simultaneously won and lost at the same time. Life is rich. Move the f*ck on. If I can do it, the rest of you can.
Paddy or Petracca. We have neither...end of story.

jeez you'd hope our Strength and conditioning staff are good enough at their job that a player doesn't need to be responsible for his peers' fitness
I really believe most players in the squad are fit , the reason being they have all data of all the players from years past and from km's run per game , speed and distance.
The problem is the developing players should be breaking there best each preseason by a margin as they get stronger and bigger , last preseason nothing was really mentioned to much about our younger guys, I just hope the development coaches put all there focus on the younger guys.

i've got a bit of a different take to others on this.

i actually agree with Healy and its not because i think its insulting to GC. it's because it backs our club into a corner. we are telling people we should be able to get that trade done and we are not even trying to hide it. Caro has reiterated it on national TV. Lloyd has done the same and on radio. its gone into print media and social media.

so what happens if we don't make this happen. we are going to look like absolute fools. so brazenly stating another clubs player is ours, then when we go to make it happen and it falls over? either because he re-signs or he nominates another club.

this bullishness cuts both ways. great if comes off. but if it doesn't it looks bad.

but lets imagine he doesn't re-sign and he nominates us. how does this position us come trade time, after all this bravado. same for any contract negotiation.

i would have liked us to be quiet and work behind the scenes to get that one sorted. instead of calling something 2 seasons out! something that's not even in our control!

again it's not GC i am concerned with. it's us.

Are we though?
I've heard us say that obviously, yes, we'd love to have him.
But I've not heard us say we expect to get him. Have I missed it or is that based on what people external to the club have reported?

Soft front runner at AFL level
Makes no sense

We'll look like fools? Oh no, Kane Cornes and some nuffs on Bigfooty might crack jokes. Who cares?

If GCS had the balls and brains to draft both Kings, the talk would be dead in the water. Once they were separated with one going to an interstate club we were always going to have this conversation.

Another perspective.

We do the same every year with GWS players, the Giants are at least honest about it, get a 1st round pick in for a couple of years then trade him out for a couple of firsts, rinse and repeat.

GCS could’ve had King, King & Smith instead of Lukosius, Rankine and King.

they shoot themselves more than anyone shoots them.
