Yep :) I have a memory like an elephant when I want to :)

Edit found it:
Yeah let's add some context by putting up the previous post.:straining:

I've always rated Woodcock and still do, perhaps go use the search function for posts by the member formerly known as Bicks.

We don't need him unless you stamp Stengle's papers, same with Fantasia, you either back Shane McAdam in or you stamp his papers too.

I think Woodcock is a better prospect than Stengle going forward personally but that's just me.

So it was an error not to grab Woodcock then ;) Especially given how cheap he was and that EC's point at the time
Not an error as such with Stengle and McAdam on the list at the time but I would certainly have taken Woodcock as a rookie in his draft year when he wasn't taken in the National Draft, his SANFL League form in 2018 was worthy of going in the National Draft IMO. I'd still grab him if he was available too, being wasted in the SANFL.

It's weird that people think the club is choosing to play injured players.

Players are grown adults, and they're saying whether they're feeling pain or need rest. Hately should have been a grown-up and done proper recovery, but that's not what happened.

Sorry if this was a sarcastic post, I'll presume you are being serious.

We have even bigger problems than I thought if our selection committee chose to play Sloane, Lynch, Keays, Tex and Brown because they thought they were fit and unaware of the players injuries.

Us, the supporters could see how their injuries hampered their performances, to think Nicks & Co were unaware of the players injuries is fanciful.

You would have to say that by drastically reducing this years draft hand, its a huge wrap for the group of youngsters we have.
We just don't have that many list vacancies, and that was well known before trade week began.

We have 4x senior & 0x rookie list vacancies at present, with only 2x uncontracted players - ROC & Davis (R). 3 of those 4 positions need to be filled either in the ND or upgrading rookies, with Strachan & Butts already having spent 3 years on the rookie list.

You’re not directly saying otherwise, but just confirming that players can remain on the rookie list for a fourth year in 2022.

You are 100% correct.

We don't need to upgrade Butts/Strachan this year. However, in the unlikely even that the AFL is actually true to its word (there's a first time for everything), and the rule reverts back to 3-years for 2023, then we'd be forced to upgrade all 3 players next year. We're better off staggering the upgrades, and given our current lack of high picks in this year's draft, it's likely that Butts and/or Strachan will be upgraded this time around.

The retention scheme already exists. There isn’t much more the AFL can do for GC. They fund them, the fix drafts and give them extra cap.

Apparently we can also move senior players to the rookie list after the draft.

They will, however, be able to shift players on the senior list to the rookie list in the time between the national and rookie drafts if the player is contracted for 2022.

So we can, say, shift someone like Frampton to the rookie list if we want?

Then with our draft hand an obvious play looks to be butts and strachan to the main list with maybe ROC to the rookie list leaving us with pick 4 and 33 at the draft and picking up 1 extra rookie with davis not getting a contract

That's a possibility. Alternatively, we can use pick 33 as part of a Dawson trade, upgrading both rookies.

For avoidance of doubt, not including Dawson.

We have 38 players in total in contract for 2022, including the two Cat B rookies. So we are looking for up to 6 more signatures.

If it is correct we can move rookies up/down as required, these six players could come from anywhere - national draft, trade, FA, rookie draft, PSSP or MSP or whatever those supplemental periods are called.

There are 3 identified candidates for those 6 spots:
Dawson (all but certain)
ROC (high chance, IMO)
Davis (slight at best if this board sentiment is to be believed)

Kade Chandler is the only other player I can think that the media has linked to us with any credibility.

A couple of points to note there...
  • We don't have to fill the list. We could quite easily & happily go 1 short on the rookie list, leaving a position to be filled in the MSD.
  • The ability to move players from senior to rookie lists is AFTER the ND. This has implications, but nothing that can't be worked around with a bit of forward planning.
  • Those 6 players could also include one, or both, of our 2 currently uncontracted players (as you obviously noted with your subsequent discussion of ROC & Davis).

Do the supplementary pre season picks have to be placed on the rookie list?

Because that’s always an option to fill the list and the last one of those has worked out reasonably well.

Yes, PSSP selections go on the rookie list. Dangarman had already included the PSSP on his list of options, which is why I didn't bother mentioning it.

MSD selections also go on the rookie list, but they need you to have a list position available (either a rookie list vacancy, or a player on the long term injury list). Unlike the other options, the MSD requires a list vacancy to exist mid-season, which may provide justification for leaving one rookie list position vacant in the short-medium term.
