Only 139 points, aka pick 61 - doubt they'd want to do that. It would have to be a significant increase in points like 30 and 32, which would be an extra 400 points.

They only need another 2-300 points to match darcy though at p3 or so so they might take it

We are talking about pick 21 vs 24/25.

It’s splitting hairs but I can’t almost guarantee you that the party with the leverage wins when you’re this close in any negotiation. 99% of the time. Freo will not let a player they have courted go over 2-3 picks in a draft that will probably end up being the same player anyway.

Just be patient. There is a deadline and hopefully Geelong just say nothing for 5 days and this one is real simple. Not confident we will be lately we have been pretty firm. We really need that pick this year.

The thing is it’s less about the gap between 21 - 24/25 and more to do with the added value 21 has as being the first pick on night two of the draft. Desperate clubs will come offering overs for it and we can pick the best offer - or use the selection. We could turn 21 into a pick in the low 20s + a FR2 (going on the bris/port trade a couple yrs ago).

It is a valuable selection.

This is worth haggling over IMO and to be honest, I’d rather keep Clark and play him than take 22.

Hopefully you’re correct and Freo won’t let a player they’ve courted behind, but then again, Bell has little man syndrome and they are muppets.

Id rather flick them 41 as we are tight for list spots but id flick that or our future 3rd with clark for 19.

41..or Fr3 ...What ever. I know we will disagree on his one but Id be happy to trade out Fort and use what ever we get to get what we need to action the deal.

I suspect with they have a very good hand now..would they use 41 this year? What do they get for Lobb?

Dream time.. What would we have to trade to get both of those picks... probably a future that we would not want to trade. ... Next year we will need plenty of picks as well.

Found this one interesting from the main board:

"On the Hard Ball Gets podcast today. Clark has already moved boxes of his stuff back to Perth and his car is on a train. He has not enjoyed his time at Geelong and it’s too far gone. Even if he’s contracted, he ain’t going back. He’ll sit a year out."

If any of that is remotely true, then we'll definitely be well rid of Clark - as that would be a pretty petulant attitude to have.

Not gonna lie...getting pretty tired of these WA draftees...different breed over there these days
If it's true it's likely because the trade is already done, not that he's cracking the s****s

RE: Key position defence.

I think Blicavs will be permanent full back. The absolute horror show in our defence in two of the finals will mean they will want some stability back there. Combined with Henderson going, I think that can be locked in.

So we have Blicavs, Kolo, Henry, plus SDK. I wouldn’t be shocked if Rohan is banished back in preseason. I know it didn’t work at Sydney, but overall he has been a better and healthier player at Geelong than Sydney.

We may need a cheap back up.

especially when they have two top 10 picks... and they will be able to say... who ... we got the player we want at 22 ..who we would have pick at 19. blahblahblah.

If I were to guess... who do they draft. Hobbs, Erasmus, Amisss. probably early ..then Johnson, Van Rooyen, Williams..etc would all be in their sights at 22..depends on who slips.

Have to say the deadline stuff is a bit annoying. Clubs having a Mexican stand off.. then in the last day, in the last hour or two... its crazy town. Make one wonder could it be arranged better of.. does the afl like it as it is. A product like trade radio talking about anything nut trades for 85% of the time..

That just sounds untrue to me. It's never come across as a homesickness thing with Clark, just about playing and playing where he wants to play. And if he was really so intent on burning bridges why would him and his manager be going with this half trade request where they've by no means publicly said it's Freo or nothing?

While not necessarily homesickness or using homesickness as a reason, considering the talk is about a change of teams & play in his preferred position, isn't it kinda interesting that the only team he's considering is the one back home

If his main reason for changing teams was around greater opportunities to play in what he deems his preferred position, then I'd think there's more than just Fremantle that would be looking at Clark

He's been pursued by Fremantle for a few years now, so the chance to go home may be a strong lure for him, along with a 4 year deal on money that other teams may not consider stumping up for him at this stage - I highly doubt that the main reason for him moving back to his home state is just the chance to potentially play as a back flanker, especially when Fremantle seem to have been talking about him being part of their midfield unit

I just want Wells to say that we won’t accept 24/25 or say if that’s the deal we will keep Clark. Wells is a stubborn old … so he won’t change is mind once it’s on record and I bet Freo do. If they don’t then the alternative is pretty good for us either way. We’ll struggle to find a player of Clark’s quality at that stage in this years draft and chat next year

I wonder if theyd be looking to add body size to Nick Stevens, isnt that much shorter than most key defenders and could get another cm or two yet, hasnt played much footy at all so probably easier to convert to a more defensively minded role than other options.

Listening to Bell yesterday ..and we know wells... both with do their trade period version of tiny tim, they will tip toe thru the tulips publicly because they have to deal with each other in the future..maybe next year.

They have the hand now to get it done , im confident a trade will happen before Wed.

No reason for Wells to say anything right now. See what happens with the Lobb trade and if that changes the game. There's a offer that in principle both parties agree to but there might be a better one with different trades changing it up

Interesting point. We do like guys who have a certain size..yet we like guys who can cover ground.

Go home or what ever we call it. How many of these players choose where they get drafted. Imagine each club getting one player they could pre sign..like a rookie B.. my bet he would have chosen a WA side.

I don't really balme them. Kelly should have been a FA after being passed over multiple times.

Even when players are happy at the start..not every player is going to work, not every one will love us for ever. Why should they most marriages fail doesnt they?.. Sometimes there is a personality clash. Explain the Lobb thing. Not just footy. I see Stevens has gone back to being a Journo only three months into his political direction..why..change of leadership ?

To me this situation resonates Caddy. Its not just a go home. A combination of factors. Once the player has said he wants to go, and we do not determine that he is critical (as we did with Kelly) I think we will get a deal done.

Worth? Before we arrived at this point... most of the reasonable Freo posters was saying a pick much later than 19 or 22. It give us a chance to pick another kid we like..and go again... and our list is at the point that if its the right kid..he will have a chance to go into a side with holes in 2023.

Really what I cant see..is how Clark plays much in our side next year. He could easily be passed by someone else internally that wants to bust a gut. Stephens has to get games.. and would it surprise if we find another Close type , a mature that pressures for a place? Some middle aged mid from Wa etc.
