Traded Luke Jackson [Traded with #44 and #67 to Fremantle for #13, F1 and F2]

Winning a premiership again could make things interesting.

Does he do a Buddy and sign on a massive long-term contract following B2B flags?

Can see him heading back to WA to take up an offer from the Eagles.
I mean Buddy was mid 20’s one of the best 2 or 3 players in the game.

Jackson won’t get that same sort of offer unless he has a ridiculous season this year.

Few players do, but WA clubs will pony up big contracts.

West Coast will have a number of bigger contracts come off their books in the next few years and could put together something like a 6-year deal worth 800k per season.

Melbourne have a lot of money tied up to a few star players and won’t be able to match, and from Jackson’s POV a flag is already in the bag (potentially a couple) and he can go out and hunt a big contract.

I’m not sure they will, or at least not sure they should. They are just entering/about to enter a rebuild and would need to give up a ton to satisfy the Demons in a trade. Not often it is worth it for rebuilding teams to drop multiple valuable assets on a player.

Freo are entering the window where they could look to go hard after a player but they already have Darcy so not sure they would be interested.

I expect he will do similar to Walsh and extend one more contract before signing a long term big $ deal either at the Dees or elsewhere on his following contract.

I agree with that, but if WC could hypothetically offer a top 3 pick and a swap of first rounders, it might not be the worst deal.

Contract status would be the biggest factor in this, OOC makes it a whole lot easier.

They have Bailey Williams they're grooming. Freo have Sean Darcy.

Even if Jackson decided to leave (and players rarely leave clubs in their window) I don't think either WA team would have the draft capital.

Williams is not a first ruck and isnt that good. Eagles need jackson but dont have the capital i agree.

Freo dont need him if darcy is staying long term but it doesnt mean they wouldnt chase him.

Would maybe scrape into the Top 5.

Walsh, M. King, Naughton, McKay ahead comfortably. I’d take Andy Brayshaw ahead too.

Nice player though.
Walsh, M King, Naughton, McKay & Brayshaw are who you consider to be the top 5 most valuable players in the comp?

In terms of draft picks needed to get them they’d be the most valuable.
so for instance you think getting hold of Brayshaw would be more expensive than getting hold of say Oliver or Bont or Petracca for example?

These guys are contracted until they hit free agency.

They’d be worth as much and potentially more, but unlikely to request a trade at any point which would require draft picks.

Jackson is the perfect player to add for a rebuilding club.

Partners NicNat for a couple of years then takes over the ruck mantle and leads the Eagles midfield for a decade.

A big offer elsewhere would make things interesting. Walsh took unders to stay, but will the Demons be able to get close to 800k pa? Jackson would be foregoing a massive paycheck to stay a couple more years.

Not sure what the motivation would be with a couple of flags in the bank already.

Brayshaw output is near identical to Walsh and is only 4 months older but that gets lost on most in vic because he plays for Freo.
He also got his face rearranged and that hasn’t stopped his trajectory.
Look at Tim English after he took a similar Impact has looked like bambi ever since!
You have to remember age impacts value greatly.
That’s why tilthorpe is more valuable then buddy even though his not fit to tie his shoelaces at this stage of his career.

quality talent no doubt, he gets a fair bit of love in Victoria

My question mark is over whether he would be worth more on the open market that say Oliver who is 24 and coming of a b&f in a premiership team & AFLCA award. Tbf I could have named Walsh and McKay too, but Carlton supporters are unrealistic with their own players

I’m just championing brayshaw and would pick him over most.
But all these threads are so subjective value totally changes dependent on club.
For freo I’d take big Harry over any player in the demons team.
Is he better then every player on demons list? no was Jose!
but a 50+ goal kicking key forward for freo is like winning the lottery!

Fair points

Lucky we have 3 x 50+ a year goal kickers in our team I guess

Walsh finished 4th in the Brownlow and 6th in the AFLCA awards.

Brayshaw didn’t finish in the Top 20 in either despite being in the system 12 months longer.

People don’t rate Brayshaw on the same level as Walsh because he’s not on the same level as Walsh.

But if we were comparing Cripps and Fyfe like in the past brownlow doesn’t mean shit!
Make your mind up dispute?!

You've got to let the young talls have some time to show their ability too.

West Coast is going to be heavily into the market for Logan McDonald and Luke Jackson.
