Carroll is a balanced mid, Kemp is an inside-leaning mid who can explode out of the contest.

Happy for us to have at most two outright wingers, and get the class stoppage mids we have rotate between there, HF & the wing.
Carroll is probably another season or more away from playing in the centre but could play wing next year. IMO we take the same development path with him that we did with Walsh who played a fair bit of wing early days before becoming an onballer. I don't mind him in the half forward role either, but he looks very pure mid to me.

I'm ok with developing Kemp as a defender and a forward as we have this year but ultimately we should be looking at him playing in the midfield. Just depends what his running capacity is going to be like.

Both need to up their running capacity, particularly Carroll if you want him to play wing. He has a good game every second one, and even in his good games he tends to go missing after big quarters.

Just typical of a young player really, he actually looks really fit and appears to be filling out. Another preseason, no injuries, he will be a different player next season.

You could even place him at half back, a player who can run a bit and plays well on the outside with his ball use could really be damaging if he gets off the chain and he probably would because he can read the game. I reckon he's going to be a player who you want the ball in his hands, unlike some we have at the moment filling in there.

I think he's more likely to develop the running ability to play a wing or flank before he develops the body strength to play on the ball. But who knows.

Not the worst idea, but he is really struggling with confidence overhead since the shoulder injury
Not sure about that. He was struggling but towelled up Joe Daniher last week (kept him to 3 touches and got coaches votes in a bad loss). Just think that he got a bit injured early (granted not badly), didn't give melksham a lot of respect, and probably wasn't a great match up for Melksham in that he seems to play better on the bigger guys these days. Had two kicked on him till half time and didn't have much influence when switched after half time.

Hopefully he will bounce back next week.

wherever Newnes is playing
Not a fan of Newnes by any measure but Newnes is mostly a winger.
Kemp's spot for now is similar role to McGovern or Marchbank in back half if he comes in any time soon.
Newnes I think is one too many wingers in team. Another inside mid or small down back in team is what is needed but most of smalls down back are injured at present with Zac Williams, Boyd and Newman all injured.
Jack Carroll I would rather in team than Newnes but Carroll only just back from injury recently and probably a bit too raw for seniors at moment.
Hayes or Dow in team before Newnes I could live with next week but Dow frustratingly not doing enough either with his disposals so not sure there will be a change to team as he out of favour.
Newnes knows how the senior team works so despite his skill errors he tends to stay in as he just another mature body out there.
I was not able to attend the match on Saturday night but it looked like Newnes played more back half than front half this week to allow Docherty to play an inside midfield role when Cerra was a late out. Robbed peter to pay paul there. Much rather Docherty in defence than Newnes in those dying moments but it is what it is with our injury list at moment. Kemp down back would be too tall in back half with Weiters, Young, Marchbank and McGovern already down there.

For mine Carroll has issues with his one sided aspect. Just seems to get caught too often in uncomfortable positions with his left foot. H

Not many left footers use their right peg that often, Pendles, Suckling, Duryea, Libba, Simmo, Bont, Hannebury, etc
It's one thing I've noticed in Fisher's play this year - he's a lot more confident on his right than he used to be. It makes him a whole lot less predictable. Great example was the goal he kicked from the boundary on the weekend. Hope Carroll can develop the same way.

So the VFL side's finals hopes rest on the Pies game too. Currently in 8th on the same amount of points as Richmond in... 9th.
Tigers play Frankston who are 17th, so should win easily.
That's back to back must win games against the Pies for both teams to play finals.

Could we expect a flood of players coming back for our final VFL game to set us up for finals?

Williams, Boyd, Cuningham, Cerra, Curnow and Honey would all have to be some sort of chance to play this week and that's with just Mirkov going out. Cuningham I believe has to play this week to qualify for VFL finals. It would be great for him to finish the season playing rather than not playing, even if it's just one game.

Could be a massive boost for us with the last game potentially being a knockout game.
