I know its been stated that we will be looking for a coach with experience. If none come up to the desired requirements, maybe Luke Hodge is worth consideration?

So Barham put the panel together by the sound of it. Does anyone know how the process will work?
No but I would imagine they will shortlist potential candidates and invite those candidates to apply. I would also imagine there may be some wannabe coaches that sound out the panel also. Given it’s a 6 or so week process it will be thorough and will involve several interviews per candidate I suspect.

Apologies if I’m telling you what you already knew.

For all those who say trust the coach selection process, please remember how Mathew Knights was selected
And then remember how the screwed him with a low budget , 1 average senior assistant along with a bunch or rookies and not following through with all the recommended changes that Knights outlined in his presentation. There was more to it than him being a "shit " coach. If they had of given him an experienced senior assistant and spent some of their precious budget it may have been different. In the end he simply burnt himself out buy trying to do everything.

Are you saying we should look a Mathew Knights now?

I don’t suppose that eases Ross’ “weariness and cautiousness” about a coaching job.

True but it also provides an opportunity for the candidate to query the board and seek some assurances. A rare opportunity, in fact.

By all reasonable measures of success... Hird's time as coach was not a success

None have been, but tbh, 2013-2014 was the most consistent team we've had on the park since 2004.

Even when they had finals taken away from them they still rocked up the next year with more effort than our current team had mustered in the last 5 years.

Neither of those points you make represent particularly high bars.

I don't say this as a joke and I don't want people to think I'm exaggerating.

In no uncertain terms if Leon Cameron is the head coach of the Essendon Football Club next I will be resigning as a fan and supporter of the club until such a time passes that he is no longer associated with us.

He is without a doubt one of the worst coaches I've ever seen. Beat one of the most talented lists assembled in the last decade into pure mediocrity. He derailed at least two years of Cogs career with how he handled his transition to captain + subsequent role shifts. He has no real game plan and does not teach any hard nosed defensive or pressure work which we desperately need. How he lasted as long as he did at GWS is honestly a surprise.

I'd be worried if he even made it to a serious list of contenders - would just show how far we are from making good decisions as a club.

Ah yes, bowing to the whims of fans who have no real insight into coaching - the most proper of proper processes

Maybe because he kept making and winning finals despite an injury list longer than you arm and players being poached every year.
