In the case of Richmond, it was reported that Reiwoldt and Cotchin both took pay cuts and are now only on approx $300k.

Compare that to what we are paying Sloane, who has done * all for the last four years.

If you mean to imply that Sloane would not do the same thing, if in the same position, then you need to have a hard look at yourself. Is as loyal as they come. You are a disgrace.

Yes as loyal as they come by holding us ransom and getting an extra year or 2 on big money out of us when he knew we were haemorrhaging players, yeah that bloke.

Still think Matt Crouch to the Eagles is the best fit available. That team is in desperate need of a coal faced mid, and Schuey isn't a shadow of the player he once was.

If he went there I think he's be a day 1 starting midfielder! And there's not many teams I can honestly say that about Matt with!

How much do you think Sloane is getting paid next year ?
I reckon it's a lot more than $300k

And? He signed a 5 year deal at a time when he was getting offers from other clubs, when other players had already jumped ship. Far out same people who complain about loyalty and not being able to retain players complain about Sloane being a Crow for life.

Get a grip.

Which Richmond players get pushed out by Taranto & Hopper coming in
No one, couple of retirements, players shuffled lower in rankings
Hopper is off the menu

Hopper was never on, always wanted to play for a big Vic club. GWS had no hope from the start, him wanting to play in front of more than 6,000 in home games and a hundred GWS supporters at away games.

Irrelevant to your opinion, but apparently he's the second ranked finals player over the last 5 years, behind dusty and daylight.
Probably wont be playing finals over the next few years though.

there's no loyalty in football, it's just business
There's no doubt that he has been injured or not very good for 3 years now

Richmond are going to have to get creative if they want both Hopper and Taranto.

Might just have to wait until next year for when he becomes a Free Agent, although they may want to strike whilst the iron is hot.

Yeah but when he signed that deal he was in excellent form. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and is the primary ingredient for the incessant whinging that goes on in these threads. Move on.

Let's be really honest, when was the last time you saw an Adelaide Crows player do something that benefited the club over their personal position?

He played 12 games that year and showed he couldn’t break a tag.

But carry on with your fairytale

So you think the club wanted to give him a long term contract to 33? Is that what Reiwoldt and Cotchin did?

And you’d wish to be consider the likes of me rather than a muppet with a mullet
The club wanted stability. At the time, Sloane was the heart and soul of the playing group. Losing him at that time would have been a disaster. The club had to pony up. Sloane was in his prime at the time and commanded more cash to return home.

To suggest Sloane held the club to ransom is ludicrous. To look back four years into a five year contract and then declare it was poor form by Sloane is the stuff of nuff nuffs. You're looking for a reason to be outraged. Have a spell.

Oh here’s another one.

Reread what you wrote. “Losing him would have been a disaster” “we had to pony up”.

That’s what we’ve been saying, we had to pony up more than we wanted to keep him. You can’t blame him for maximising the situation but he’s no saint, he took advantage of it and squeezed out another year at lest. Unless you think the club voluntarily gave him 5 years to take him to 33. If that’s the case Reid should be sacked.

Next time try and keep up with the argument.

Not sure why people are expecting charity from Sloane when it was his last chance for a big contract. If Adelaide got lured into a s**t deal because they were desperate for a good news story, that's their fault and they can eat s**t afaic.

HOW WILL THE RANKINE DEAL GET DONE?

The widely accepted starting point for an Izak Rankine trade is Adelaide’s first-round draft selection – but will it be this year’s or next?

The Crows hold pick five in the 2022 draft, which will slide to six once Brisbane matches a bid for star junior Will Ashcroft, the son of triple premiership Lion Marcus.

Rankine has requested a trade home from Gold Coast to South Australia to play for the Crows, after a career-best season that hinted at his immense potential.

But the compensation for the out-of-contract forward, the No.3 selection in the 2018 draft, remains to be seen.

There is a theory the Suns may ask for Adelaide’s future top pick instead of this year’s, given hugely promising Academy prospect Jed Walter is draft eligible next season.

Strong-marking Walter is viewed as a top-10 lock and one of the two best key forwards in the 2023 draft class, along with leading No.1 pick contender Harley Reid, so Gold Coast will need points to match a bid.

The teenager starred for the Allies at the national under-19 championships, kicking nine goals in four games as a bottom-age player.

Potentially receiving then using the Crows’ first-round selection to absorb a Walter bid would enable the Suns to still use their own.

WHAT RANKINE MOVE MEANS FOR ROWE

Rankine’s impending arrival at Adelaide has left fellow small forward James Rowe in limbo.

The 22-year-old has played 36 games and kicked 27 goals in two seasons at the Crows since being a mature-age recruit out of the SANFL, but was told he will have to wait through the trade period to discover his fate.

Rowe may need to find a new club to extend his career, given Rankine will join exciting top-10 draftee Josh Rachele in a promising attack alongside Taylor Walker, Darcy Fogarty and Shane McAdam.

Lachie Gollant is also highly rated at West Lakes, while pressure forward Lachie Murphy still has a season to run on his two-year deal.

Western Bulldogs were keen on Rowe when he was drafted two years ago, but weren’t able to get him before Adelaide after the Crows bid for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan at No.1 and forced them to use several picks to match.

This is the first article or suggestion in the media i've seen/heard that suggests we should be using next years first. Everyone else is saying pick 5 this year as a starting point. Glad that people are starting to talk about this as a potential outcome.

It seems to be the best option for both parties if we do use our first next year, Suns can use the points for their academy kids and we get to get a top 6 midfielder into our system this year rather than next year. Win/Win in my book.

Ross was decent this year and played well in their final, is he worth trying to get over here?

Don't need another inside mid, but warranted thats the sort of player getting pushed out if Hopper/Taranto come in.
