SNFL Div 1 discussion 2022

Love this idea what would a rough Div 1 and Div 2 be based on this model? The rest I could probably figure out….be remaining SFNL teams but would be interested to see what MPNFL teams you place where. Happy for you to do the whole league if you have time?? I suggest 10 team divisions as they work best (even home and away games playing each other twice).

There is a core of clubs down on the peninsula (actually on the peninsula proper) who simply want their own comp. It's what they've always wanted and want now. And it makes perfect sense - they're country clubs really, but they're close, travel times are low and they get local rivalries every week. Yes Sorrento have been the most vocal but there's others.

I'd just give it to them. They should have it and let them work on having who they want in it.

Everybody else into Southern that would make it much stronger.

In my mind the boundary would be around Frankston, but that'd really be up to individual clubs and what they wanted to do.

There'd certainly be no Chelsea, Edi-Asp, Bonbeach, Devon Meadows etc... the Peninsula clubs have no interest in going up there and have just had it forced on them.

The reason it never happened is because the MPNFL is just a mini-empire interested only in building itself. Same as every individual league.

Bedford, here are your Southern Amateurs. You might need to pinch some SFNL clubs to have a decent Bayside comp.

DIVISION ONE (8)
Beaumaris
Hampton Rovers
Parkdale Vultures
Ormond
Glen Eira
Prahran Assumption
Oakleigh
Power House

DIVISION TWO (6-7)
South Melbourne Districts
Elsternwick
Canterbury
Albert Park
St Johns
Masala
Chadstone (?)
Glen Eira is a school team lol

Other possibilities (16): Beaumaris, Bonbeach, Box Hill North, Canterbury, Edithvale-Aspendale, Frankston Bombers, Frankston YCW, Hampton Rovers, Hawthorn, Masala, Old Peninsula, Ormond, Pines, Richmond Central, St John’s, Seaford.
Which 6 Div 1 clubs will go down to Div 2 if Beaumaris,Bonbeach, Edithvale-Aspendale,Pines,Seaford and Frankston Bombers decide to join?

There's a bit of everything in that club's heritage - banks, district clubs, schools ... anything else LOL
Yeah and senior teachers/administration of McKinnon SC pinching all the St Pauls pathway players across to Glen Eira which was a pretty pathetic move and in a single year killed off our 19's by blindsiding the club

And now taking Ormond under 17s out for dinner to try and have 2 under 19s , they just don't stop

Don’t underestimate the boys themselves, they spend alot of time together at School and talk, network you’d say, another example is St Bedes Mentone having 3 U19s this season with so many going to School at St Bedes College

Pretty sure Glen Eira have named their 19s Old Mckinnon now too.
St Pauls have announced a 19s coach... have they already got the numbers for a team?
You would hope the league manages to pull more 19s teams in over this years effort.

They have . The school footy coach is involved at the Combine

I see ole mate Pete Marshall stepping down from SFL umpires! Will be a massive job to replace him, a legend in Umpiring cirlcles, enjoy the retirement Pete.
Who steps up down there now?

Who then? Who is president down there now? Don't think committee would be chasing recruits?
I think it’s the same president they have had for years. I know him vaguely through cricket and he seems like a decent bloke. Has certainly made his club relevant again in a very, very crowded local market when they had been wallowing in the bottom grades of the VAFA.

Any club without aligned juniors who tries to build a relationship with a local school deserves to be complemented, not vilified. Not having a shot at Ormond or St Pauls here but they both have strong juniors and have no claims over kids from McKinnon Secondary (which is hardly a renowned football nursery) or any other school for that matter. Remember GE efforts to establish juniors were vetoed by neighbouring SMJFL clubs so I guess they had to do something.

I know bugger all about them other then they are the result of multiple mergers over the years. Good on them for trying to keep their club (s) alive and they obviously are doing something right if kids want to play there. Plenty of other SFL clubs just can’t be bothered making the effort to establish U19, which is why 15 years after its reintroduction the 19s comp is still failing to thrive.

Cranbourne played on 22 player points on Saturday, the same as the Second Semi Final team against Cheltenham which had 22 pts also so not sure if you were there watching or just heard about it , in fact Fox not playing full forward for Chelt could have been a factor but Cranbournes smaller team seemed suited to the wet weather, the Rosellas had won 16 straight games so it was devastating just like 2019. Bentleigh winning 3 games for the season need to keep their U 19s but time will tell
Might be wrong but think and afl Vic rule is that all when a club changes leagues that all players that transfer become 1 pointers
