Has Roy Masters released his 'NRL to smash AFL in tv ratings' article this year, or did he learn from his 2019 post grand final article? That was hilarious that year.

I think I'm finished editing this.
Your not including the 17800 they posted as the crowd for the North v Melbourne before the men’s final are you ?
That was a ridiculous made up figure crowds before men’s games are zero unless they bring up a seperate Aflw ticketing system and clear the ground of all patrons before the men’s starts!
But 17800 went to watch the Aflw please they must think we are idiots.

The question in your weird grammar tortured rant was literally answered before you asked it.

I'm not sure if the AFL thinks you're an idiot but you're not mounting a strong case to the contrary.

Yeah sure you get my point though ?
Or are you just a thick lefty?

It probably costs half that in expenses related directly to processing the membership.

Once upon a time, that may have been the case, but these days, it's fairly automated.
Also, you're basically using the same membership staff you're using most of the year, so it's better utilising an existing cost.

I notice all the NRL usual urgers on LU are very quiet today re the GF TV ratings which most were selling the idea that the NRL would kill the AFL by hundreds of thousands!

VOZ adds about 44,000 per game. This is regional audiences from the NT and Tas that arent in the consolidated/overnight results.

'Seven’s AFL Saturday football finals was in second spot overall, with 1.582 million viewers nationally, while Seven News on Saturday came in the third spot with a total TV audience of 1.548 million.'

Intetesting, would be cool to know how they they calculate the gatherings? For example I was at a BBQ with 30-40 people on the weekend with 1 tv source coming from 7plus. That's 30-40 people for 1 of their streaming numbers.

How the advertising industry use the numbers is the sharp end of the discussion.

For all those worried about the current size of the AFLW crowds should have tuned into the T20 Australia v West Indies last night at the Gold Coast there were only a handful there and this is an International match with the Australian National team playing = not looking at all good for the BBL this season!

Are the aflw crowds really as bad as everyone is making them out to be? Is there any women's sport that is getting higher consistently without being a curtain raiser? I assume super netball does pretty well.

Netball is a bit different as it is the highest form of the game. How do you think a men's netball league would rate?
AFLW need to find the right venues and time slot, and get the season timing right. Thought Frankston was a winner for the Hawks game last week.
Also, we are still not seeing many draftees who can kick properly. Girls being drafted now may only have been playing footy for five years. it is still another five plus years until we will see a significant increase in the skills of those players, then another five year until girls what started in Auskick make up the majority of players. It will come.

That's a good point actually. People wanna watch the best athletes of that particular sport regardless of gender. It's why the A league struggles and why female sports always struggle for as much interest. The only one that doesn't struggle for interest is netball, which has no male equivalent. It's not rocket science.

I live on the Gold Coast and had no idea there was a game on last night

To claim a curtain raiser is related to the main game crowd is a long bow/dishonest.

Outside of test cricket and BBL is anything even marketed?

The only reason I even knew there was an Australia-West Indies game on altogether, was my phone giving me a notification saying 'australia-west indies game starting now'

And I did look in the past to know there was upcoming cricket. But I actually thought it was in Townsville or Cairns or something. Not the Gold Caost.

Was shocked at the crowd when I saw hghlights of the game, dont recall seeing any marketing for the game and also did even know it was on

A couple of points.
Traditional sports with traditional clubs playing in long established leagues don't need promotion as those interested
are looking towards the openning of the season and the media pick up on it anyway.
This need for promotion is the problem faced by all minor sports in becoming mainstream.
It's a catch-22 problem. a sport cannot become popular without the benefits and resources of being popular.
Variants of popular sports have a head start in that regard but it doesn't ensure success like AFLX.
These days, people want everything presented to them on a plate.

Netball is a bit different as it is the highest form of the game.

And is attractive to watch.
AFL is attractive to watch and part of that is down to the long kicking.
If AFLW could kick long then it would be really attractive to watch.
In theory women's soccer should be better than men's (competitive but less professional) but it doesn't appeal to the traditionalists.
RU can be attractive to watch, but it's rare these days and women's rugby holds no attraction what-so-ever.
NRL is a much "cleaner" product to watch but IMO there is little attraction in Watching women play a "rough" game (or is there?)
Cricket, baseball, soccer and basketball are all pretty much the same in that the women's game is competitive and interesting
but it just doesn't appeal to most people.

AFLW need to find the right venues

The venues are there - WAFL, SANFL, VFL, whilst Qld and NSW have possibilities.
and time slot, and get the season timing right.

These are the important ones.
