A-League woman’s is not costing $60 mill to put on though
Also not bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars, unlike AFLW.

Aflw is a financial bust funded purely funded by the soft cap money removed from coaches in the men’s game.

Hmm maybe pay your club a visit and you'll see 40 million dollars in brand new facilities--product of the women, being used by the men. I already mentioned funding, so you shouldn't still be struggling with this.

There are also more expensive membership options than $75 btw. But it's what the vast majority sell for, and that is a definite fact (not a figure based on guesses like, say, TV ratings).

AFLW isnt earning hundreds of millions. Not even close.
It has brought in hundreds of millions of dollars, not even debatable.

Its very much debatable. The entire league wont be making more than a max $50m a year in any given year - and even then thats a very generous guess.

Those Carlton facilities were never just for the women, were never just a "product of the women" and to claim otherwise is highly ingenuous.

Of course the facilities aren't just for the women (I already said they're being used by the men), that's why football has benefitted so much from AFLW.

And I didn't say they were "just" a product of the women. But we all know why the funding has come flooding in, just as we all know why a guy like Jeff Kennett did a sudden backflip on women's football ~4 years ago.

WTF do you expect.

The times they put the games on is ridiculous. They shouldn't be scared to have multiple games on at the same time. It's not like they're getting huge TV audiences, nor are TV paying anything for the rights that they can demand the whole comp revolve around them.

The AFL held attention longer, with more than 2.1 million viewers sticking with the one-sided game for an hour and 40 minutes. It dropped below 2 million metro viewers only in the final quarter.

But just as Brisbane viewers had abandoned the league, so did Perth viewers bail on the AFL. From 308,000 watching in the first quarter, the audience dropped below 200,000 around half-time and below 100,000 in the final quarter.

I did laugh at this and it doesn't surprise me....it was a genuinely nice day and people generally aren't watching TV on Saturday afternoons. So once the result was a foregone conclusion it looks like everyone switched off to do something else. Probably whatever they do normally on Saturday arvos.

Can confirm, after quarter time everyone was down at Claremont Quarter

Sports TV rights review to put streaming services under microscope

James Massola

The future of sports broadcasting in Australia is under review, with laws that keep major events on free to air TV likely to be expanded to capture streaming giants such as Kayo, Stan and Amazon Prime.

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland promised before the election to review the anti-siphoning laws, which give free to air TV stations such Seven, Ten and Nine (the owner of this masthead) first option to buy the broadcast rights for major sporting events including the AFL and NRL, the summer and winter Olympics, Ashes cricket and World Cup football.

The current anti-siphoning list is due to expire in April 2023. The sports industry, clubs and Australians have until December 6 to make submissions to the inquiry into the future of sport on TV.
The review could lead to the list of sports offered to free to air stations before some paid services being tweaked or expanded, and is likely to put streaming services into the same category as pay TV network Foxtel.

Unlike Foxtel, streaming services such as Paramount Plus and Stan (owned by Nine) are not covered by the anti-siphoning legislation, which came into force in 1994 before they existed. Seven West Media boss James Warburton recently called for legal changes to make the laws fit for purpose.
