As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

Watching a bit of the VFL.. Conways marking is better than anything else we have had as a ruck for a while. Stanley at his best. Id rather just keep adding that type. Be it Pike or whoever.

Then we need a mature to help next year... I dont see Grundy wanting us..or that we should trade our R1 or anything like that for Grundy.

I think we mostly agree...we do have to do something but I dont want it to be as expensive as I think Grundy would be. I think he will look at Port or Swans before us.

I really doubt CS will let his form allow Kolo to be traded. It would be very different to how he likes to have his side. A fit motivated mature player is far more reliable than a younger player. Keep him or not , is no real issue for me ..but we have to add a younger tall capable of being played if required. Someone listed. Even Rookie.

We don't have a bunch of depth for guys putting pressure on the kolo types ..

Yes he’s uncontracted, but doesn’t mean Mackie gives up and makes it easy, I don’t think he will. Tim Kelly was uncontracted, we dug the heels in, Ollie Henry was uncontracted, pies dug in. A deal will get done and it’ll be better than 40.

Above are just two examples. Also:

• Cats rate sav much higher than a token pick
• Coach is on record pumping him up
• Port are desperate for him and see him as the missing piece to their puzzle
• He is one of those players rated highly externally for his potential

Lack of key defenders on the market. Demand and supply
- Mackie has more balls than to take that. It’ll be ports first offer and we will walk out the room before port has finished the sentence.

We will get a lot better then pick 40. Take it to the bank.

The pies 'digging in' only worked because a 3rd club helped them out (hawks) otherwise they would have had to take p25 or henry would have gone to the psd. Sav is the same scenario except i cant see any club wanting to help us out in a 3 way with port.

We will be lucky to get more than p37 its just reality sadly. We have no hand to play.

Agree about not trading our FF. We could quite easily finish bottom 4 next year.

As for Smith, if he says he wants out, regardless of his contract status, then unless the Dogs do a Tim Kelly, then they'll find a suitable trade. I'd want clarification on Sanders before I'm trading out our first. This kid could possibly get to us if we lose this week and end up with pick 7 (before bids). Unlikely, but possible.

You've had this explained to you before in great detail yet you keep ignoring it. None of our mids play more than 70% in most games. If what you said was true, the other mids would be playing 85+% to compensate - but they're not.

This obsession with Bruhn needs to stop. Did you see Danger last night? Hell have you seen most of our midfield besides Atkins this season? Bruhn has done more than enough in his first proper season at the club. Your need to pile on after every game is just getting ridiculous now - especially when we have much bigger problems.

I suspect there will always be some that dislike this player or that.

I have no ideal on TannerB stats ... my impression of him this year has been about how he has played in his first full year of midfield. I have liked his step, his sure hands and his youthful aggression. Add as many young guys as we can ..from his level of draft worthness ... and who is in our final side.. will just be a battle of selection. If anything him playing all year says plenty about our list. Even CS has said he has played more than might have been expected due to injuries. I look forward to seeing him and Clark and Knevitt and who ever elese we add develop as a group over the next few years. So will fall away. Just natural. We darft and recruit to improve our side ..it means someone gets pushed out.

The GC Suns have a tonne of fit talent on their list that are stuck in VFL. Wonder if we should ‘money ball’ for a couple of 20-23 YOs - a ruck and quickish mid (who can also play running defender). Could break up any pick for Sav and any player seeking a trade.

Have you seen how much stanley is slowing down? I cant support any idea that says we dont have to bring in another ruck who can play next year (ie mature age). But i agree its valid to do that on the cheap ie get sweet or a DFA type like that if you dont think grundy is value and youd rather wait a year or two for better rucks to be on the market.

Moyle is obviously who we would love but they wont release him next year. Id go really hard at moyle next year when ooc though im not sure they can hang onto both him and read long term.

For this year id love flanders but i think he stays. Id do hollands for the right price if hes on the table. Faulkhead i think you could get back for cheap and we know him. Id love davies (exactly what we need) but they wont let him go. Farrar is a nice player but prob too old for us.

. I think we’ll take a serious look if Crows move him on.

Continued development of Bruhn / Holmes / Knevitt and land a couple of those names above, and we’ll hold on to have another crack.

A full season from Cam Guthrie will help.

I think we may have to learn to work with Conway with what he has. Id have been tempted to play Conway v the saints. Im glad we didnt in the end... but id play him and plan to sub him if and when he gets tried..till he build the tank.

LOL ..no rucks? My bias is toward what most would say is too many rucks. Conway is on the conveyor.. now I want another kid. ..3 or 4 years in the VFL..is fine. Just grab one and basically ice him

Blitz has been bailing us for years... and we have been lucky. If we do not do something ..then players like Sam Dek and Henry will be asked to play out of role.

I completely disagree with your concept of what I said in the quoted post. You miss the ..."If in doubt" part of the quote.

...but maybe you see it different. If we are in doubt about 2e for example ... we should stick with him? He has played a few game this year. So all the older guys on the edge ..in balance we keep them? I doubt you want that as you talk about balance and bring younger players thru.

Do you disagree with what we did last year by improving access to youthful talent? We added players rated 4 r1 picks in their draft year last year. Bowes is not worth that now but I think the other three have helped the standard of our kids. Bruhn and Henry have played most of the year

Not once did I infer that we deliberate choose to lose. The consequence of going young might be lose a few more games for a while but its more about getting game into kids..and get them to 50 asap. Go young and reset the age profile of our list before Tass come in.... yes but not cull the list and I your inference that I said tank to get high draft picks is incorrect..... although it seems to have turned Haw around by doing that its not exactly what id do.



Let me say again. Any player that is in balance ...he might be ok or he might not be ..... then i would prefer ..to go young and reset.

Add players that are younger ..not older. Youth. 25 and younger. Younger free agents. Maybe 26. Parish as a Free agent OK Do not add a mature players near 30 as the next 3 years is a time move the balance and the age of the list. We have far too many near and over 30 if we are not in contention.

As good as Cameron Stewart and Guthrie are ..alone they will not be enough . Having Guthrie this year would have helped but not that much that it would have changed the saints game.

If we keep adding older players and do not keep adding youth like Bruhn, Clark , Henry etc ... the best we can add .. then we will not have to deliberately try to get high draft picks. Our best players are getting older.. Our best younger players under them..tomorrow best players are not to the same standard. We need talent and we need it be 25/26 or younger. Something with a 3 to 5 year horizon.

I think I misunderstood your statement around "increasing access to young talent" which sounded like dropping down the ladder for draft picks.

I don't really disagree with much of what you've said. But we've already been doing most of what you say.

And I just think people here care way way way too much about age and nowhere near enough about quality. There are posters tossing it Hawkins when he's still one of the best in the game and Duncan who's last 6 weeks has been excellent. Delisting these guys would not only be incredibly disrespectful to club legends who are still going really well but would be insane when winning the 2024 flag is still possible if unlikely.
