Curtin is a hard one to read. I don't see a key defender but the kid can seriously play. I would take him over Sanders and not even blink. Averaged over 23 touches a game in the championships. Phenomenal for a 195 cm player
Tbh, best way of describing Curtin is Outside Mid or a Rebounding Key Defender. To me, he looks like the Jeremy Cameron version of a Centre Half Back.
I actually agree with this, Rucks rarely go earlier

Mids should always go first if you're picking top 10 unless the KPF/KPD is like all time elite prospect.

Since i reckon we may miss on Sanders i'd love O'Sullivan since he can play KPD OR KPF.
That's the sort of player Chris Scott lovers, guys who play more than one role
Can O'Sullivan play Key Forward though? He looks more like Weitering than say a Naughton. Naughton was recruited as a Key Defender btw.
Maybe O'Sullivan is the guy, a bit of Jacob Weitering about him

This is what I think. More a CHB type.

Yeah it's more of an example of who's available at that pick. They might be extremely keen on Wilson or O'Sullivan, or even Caddy - who knows. As time goes on, I'm growing more and more excited at the prospect of Wilson - as I think he's just as good as the other 8 in the open pool who've been classed as 'elite.'

Wilson is one I’d be very happy to take. Whether he would be available if we traded down a few spots is unknown. But I’d be comfortable if we called his name with our first pick even if it stays as it is.

It baffles me how we come off our worst season in recent memory and sit on our hands and do nothing in the trade period yet when we are contending we literally look at everyone, do these blokes realise we missed finals this year!!!

What would you suggest we have done?

Spot on mate, Zac Fisher would have been the driving force of a Geelong premiership in 2024...what the hell are we doing?!?!?

O'Sullivan is a FB or CHB doesn't move like a foward he and SDK could sort us for the next decade

Use pick for Esava on George Stevens and I'd be very very happy

Plenty of talent around, Stephens would have been good for us, Harmes would have been good for us, Jordon would have been good for us, any ruckman would have been good for us, just because YOU dont like any of the players on offer doesnt mean they wouldnt help the team, i can tell you now id much rather Harmes in the side next year instead of Tuohy, he's absolutely cooked!!

Can't see us accepting 15 & 18 for 8, tbh. There's a massive premium on the Top 10 of this draft, and I don't think Pick 18 moves the needle enough to get into that bracket, IMO.
Agreed wholeheartedly.
Also can’t agree more about North and their supporters.
I’m personally hoping for Curtain to be available at our pick and WCE offer their future 1st. Second to that I’d love Sanders to be available and playing in the hoops in 2024.
Time will tell.

Agree with you on the last point. Thought Tuohy should have retired.

That's what I was thinking when I saw North's recent acquistions.

I'm assuming they'd want to keep at least one of the #2 and #3 selections, but equally I assume the Eagles would be looking for two single-digit selections to part with #1/Harley Reid.

Therefore: #15 + #18 to us for #8.

#2 (or #3 - presumably the Eagles and Roos could collude as to who would select who and it is a moot decision) and #8 to Eagles for #1/Reid.
Based on the other trades 15 and 18 would not be enough. DVI Points has its limitation but as comparison...

.... Demons had secured the No.11 pick in exchange for picks No.14, No.27 and No.35 . On points 1329 for 2386. 7 for 15 &18 1644 for 2097

What picks do they have next year now...I have lost track... but I think id also want something to help us in 2024

That should be enough surely.

Nope wce wont do it unless its 2 and 3 (nor should they).

As an aside all these clubs trading up in the top 30 tells me that most clubs dont rate this draft after the first round which fits my view.
I wouldnt be trading 8 down unless it involved 2 r1s (ie 15 and 18) i wouldnt want to trade 8 for a slew of r2 picks ideally as i think 2024 picks would be better value.

To be fair there was plenty of criticism when we picked up the likes of Rohan, Stanley and Smith, all of who went on to play pivotal roles in a premiership.

Likewise, very few thought Mitchell and Hill would be among the best handful on the ground in a GF win.

We aren’t going to trade for a Dangerfield or Cameron every year, but I hope we are at least looking to address our midfield and ruck depth which are pressing needs for 2024.

Let's not get too high-and-mighty around here.

If we were in the same position as North, we'd absolutely be brandishing the begging bowl to the AFL and holding out for as great a deal of draft picks as we could get.

Don't pretend we wouldn't.
Not angry at them for trying, but that the afl gave it is pure mismanagement

Eh, it is what it is.

Clearly the club rates the young talent we have and what the list can do if we have a good run with injuries, which is understandable. If we had got a full season out of Henry, Stanley, Guthrie, Danger, Cameron, Blitz, SDK, Rohan and Bews then we probably make a prelim at least, i dont think thats assuming too much. The same will be true next year, and as with almost every other team that has premiership credentials, it will all come down to your run with injuries. No team is the clear favourite going into 2024, you can throw a blanket over probably 4-6 teams that could all win it based on their run with injuries.

Adding a top 10 talent to the group of young kids we have coming through is probably the right move for us, and i hope we hold firm and simply take someone with whatever pick 7 becomes on draft night. Last year was the big year for trades, and i suspect next year will be too. There is nothing wrong with banking some draft picks and moving on in the meantime. If it was an Oliver or Smith it'd be different, but we dont need to sell the farm for the rubbish that has been traded so far.

Maybe read a little more about these players before you shoot off.

I've been strong on this, the grass isn't always greener. You know why? Because we watch every second of our players and criticize them with a fine tooth comb, we don't do that for the opposition.

Read oppo club boards mate, it'll help you get a feel for the thoughts of the player who they see every week. Most of us are just catching the highlights.

You're just interested in Stephens because he's a former pick 5...Swans supporters couldn't get him out the door quick enough and are pissed that they used such a good pick on such a poor footballer.

Question marks on his toughness, his disposal, and the belief that he thinks he's a much better player than he actually is.

Harmes is just an honest battler. Tries hard, can play a role here and there, but his disposal is putrid. He wouldn't have been the difference between us winning and losing next year.

If you want an example of what you're doing, look at Esava. There's a small portion of Port supporters who genuinely believe that he could be the difference for them next year.

Those of us here who see him every week find that notion hilarious, and can't wait to get a pretty good pick for what the majority of us here see as an ordinary footballer.

I'm sorry we missed on Stephens, a bloke who shit the bed under pressure on the biggest stage. What a mistake that we didn't pursue him.

How many picks will get used/burned in Bids/Academy picks? Particularly by Suns, Dogs, etc.

Just trying to work out whether if we get a Pick 48 from Port in the Esava deal assuming we send them 85 or a F4 or something, what P48 will be on the night? And whether that could land us Haste on the night. A bit of outside speed with a late pick.

I'd only trade 8 if we drop down a fraction and get a F1 they'll be top 10.

It's irrelevant, those players are off the board. When will people grasp this.

We are all assuming that Mackie/Wells rate Sanders. We may be totally wrong and they see him as having a low ceiling or at least little potential for substantial improvement. Can you imagine the uproar if we trade out in the night if he is available?!

This is my great hope for draft night.

When was the last epic draft night melt on this board? 2020 when we live traded our future first and then selected the unknown Max Holmes? The SDK melts in 2019 cause we took him over Deven Robertson were great too.

It's been too long. Time for another all time draft night melt!

Swings and roundabouts.

For every gun picked off the scrapheap, there's a million Sam Blease & Stewart Crameri's.

The common denominator with a lot of these 'steals' is they look like guns in good teams. It's really that simple.

For instance, if we have another great year next year, we'll probably have a kid who looks 5 years ahead of his development in a good team.

In a poor year, he might look like half the player, and then return to form again as he has to work on his game to get back to the top level.

What I'm saying is if we have a big pre-season and get some injury luck we'll be a pretty good side next year, and maybe the Zac Fisher's of the world would look like guns in that team...but they're interchangeable pieces. It's the same with Markov & Frampton this year.

We might as well develop one of our kids or draftees and get the same result.

Our ins last year were 7 (Jhye Clark), Bruhn, Henry and Bowes. Solid trade period. We can't be busy every year, nothing great available anyway.
We have the potential this year to hit the draft and get some pretty good talent to add to that under 25 base.

Pick 24 not enough for Rata as we knocked it back. It'll be interesting what Port do from here since now they have no f1 that probably would've got the deal done.

Didn't realise we trade collateral to bulk up our VFL team

And just because Tuohy is on our list doesn't mean he'll play 20 games next season - could well find himself in a similar position to what Higgins & Dahlhaus did during season 2022
