Seems like mid season trade period is fait accompli at this point. I can see teams in contention trying to get players like Shiel or Stringer mid season, would we be after anyone?

both shiel and stringer would be good pickups for the dees.I don't think we are in the window to trade anybody in but I reckon if a team comes for Stringer we pull the trigger.
Has there been something close to confirmation now?Seems like mid season trade period is fait accompli at this point. I can see teams in contention trying to get players like Shiel or Stringer mid season, would we be after anyone?
Imagine a player in a GF recieving a medal who's only been there for half a season and played for another team before that. Just feels wrong. No thanks.
Marlon Pickett debuted in a GF yeah? as a midseason recruit.Billy Frampton got a GF Medal for barely bothering to exist onfield, a player doing half a season and contributing on the day surely deserves it more than Billy Frampton.
Atrocious idea and I hope it never happens. Should be train hard, prepare, then go all out for the season.

What difference does trading a player mid season make when it comes to this issue?Feel free to discuss why you think its a good or bad idea.
I tend to think it puts pressure on the lower level teams to retain their talent. That's already an issue.
mid-season trade period would ruin the sense of cohesion, camaraderie and loyalty in a group going all in with a shared goal from start to finish.
It also puts more emphasis on list management/conditioning and making sure you accommodate for deficiencies before the H&A. If you go in without addressing said deficiencies either through a poor listing of priorities, negligence in favour of a delusional strategy or putting all of your eggs in one basket, then that's on you. That's how it should be.
there's a case for fringe players to try resurrect their careers through it.What difference does trading a player mid season make when it comes to this issue?
Do the only players who get traded go from struggling teams to good teams?

example - we could have gone for Dunstan mid season to help with the midfield rotations.
My question will be would the afl allow a half year contract?
more thinking if you have a guy coming out of contract at years end, might be a little fringe where he is.They already have 6 month contracts for MSD, but these guys getting traded will already be under contract so presumably it's the existing rules that they need to honour the existing contract terms?
"Looks like we're a lock for the top 4. The list is in pretty good shape. All we need now is some over hyped flogs who play a selfish game that are past their best to tip us over the line..."Seems like mid season trade period is fait accompli at this point. We get it. You hate Shiel and Stringer despite them being excellent players. We all know about your bias."Looks like we're a lock for the top 4. The list is in pretty good shape. All we need now is some over hyped flogs who play a selfish game that are past their best to tip us over the line..."
I tend to agree. Feels like a move away from being part of a club, including its struggles to develop as part of a group, to being more part of a corporate enterprise.Except Billy Frampton didn't play or boot goals against the team he received the premiership medal for in the same year. Which is exactly the possibility in the event of a mid-season trade period. Yuck.
Being a depth player in the event of an injury/form after having been amongst the group for the preseason/every meeting is different to just rocking up out of nowhere as an opposition one round and as a teammate the next. A mid-season trade period would ruin the sense of cohesion, camaraderie and loyalty in a group going all in with a shared goal from start to finish. It should be us VS all opposition until the final siren in September.

I thought it’s been said it won’t happen this yearSeems like mid season trade period is fait accompli at this point. I can see teams in contention trying to get players like Shiel or Stringer mid season, would we be after anyone?
i think the mid season trade period is a bit stupid mainly because i don’t really think contracts end (generally speaking) in the middle of the season (MSD being exceptions iirc) so it’ll either result players breaking contracts or having little to no use as itll rarely affect “the best players”
i also think it’ll make fans filthy, imagine if your favourite player just jumped ship in june for a better club, i’d be livid
Isn't it just going to be top 8 sides overpaying for players for a push into the end of year?
