Review Round 12, 2024 vs Carlton

Mate took me into the 5AA locker room for last night's game. If you had looked at the players in the rooms post-game without knowing the result, you would have thought that they had won the game convincingly. Absolute joke of a club.

They still get their pay packet. They don't care. We Are Not Port Adelaide.

Marshall and Dixon are pretty synonymous of the current side. Look decent against shit opponents, but put a half decent player on them and they fail miserably.

Would weitering or any half decent defender lose any sleep over having to face these two?

Didn't you have Cripps and Wines as equals a week ago? Why do we need JHF in there?

A quick search of my posts indicates I haven't mentioned Cripps since September last year. So no. No I didn't. And irrespective of who else is in there, having your best player in the middle when the game is on the line seems sensible.

Imagine our defence holding up in the cauldron of the MCG on GF day.
I can’t.
They are thoroughly spooked whenever there is any form of momentum coming their way during any minor round game.
Its amazing that this club is now at the point that even considering these blokes being there on GF day just makes me laugh. Its like saying imagine our defence riding around on flying unicorns. It will never happen.

Let's rest the main ruck for the first 5 centre bounces too. Like playing Doom on 'nightmare' difficulty just to make it more fun

Nah Ken’s at the top of his game mate.

Get our best and game changing mid out of the centre when the whips are cracking. Open the game up. Let our defence try and rebound a bit.

And BZT as sub, a guy capable of one position, that’s a chef’s kiss. And Jezza this week, when we are going up against one of the most in form and dynamic rucks, let’s try Soldo and Dixon in their return games but not have our best second ruck available.

Ken’s at another level. He’s changing the game. You just don’t understand it.

We play GWS after the bye.

If we pick Dixon not only would Sam Taylor not lose a wink of sleep, he’d be rolling around on the floor laughing.

Our gameplan doesn't stand up vs top 4 sides. And hasn't for a number of years.
Under pressure players handpass when they should kick.
Our defence punch when they should mark. And try to mark when they should punch(Jones).
Try the fat side side of the ground. When they should go down the line.Little wonder Butters runs with the footy. And tries to open up the poorly structured fwd line.
It happens in showdowns and other big games. Our players go to pieces and make terrible decisions.
Never really been a Hinkley basher. But its pretty clear where the problem lies
TBO Carlton couldn't put us away in the second qtr. When we where close at 3/4.Thought we could scrap another St Kilda,Freo,Hawthorne type win.

Imagine Aliir one grabbing a mark!

Imagine Jones not overrunning a loose ball!

Imagine Rozee winning a hard ball!

Imagine Boak kicking a goal!

Imagine Marshall taking a contested mark!

Imagine Burton doing anything that could be remotely described as defending!

Imagine Finlayson kicking one of those snaps from 45 out!

Imagine Dixon getting more than 1cm in front of his opponent at any time!

The only positive I have taken from tonight is when I spoke with a Director on the Board post match who agreed with me unequivocally when I said the difference between the two teams was that one was well drilled and methodical whilst the other relied on pure talent to overcome their lack of cohesive structure.
So this person needs to grow a set & DO SOMETHING

Yep we clearly haven’t recruited enough players with what it takes to be successful, JHF and Butters play with intensity required to be successful apart from them I am struggling.
Huston is a consistent performer. Not a hard player like the other 2 but probably hard enough given his obvious attributes. We really miss the hardness of Jonas & the example he set. In his latter years he couldn't get to the contest but prior to that he was a beacon of hardness. McKenzie is a huge loss too, a total professional.

Nothing can really happen during the season unless the absolute bottom falls out. And that is still a possibility, albeit, unlikely.

The bigger question is whether or not the Club will be content with another finals series without putting up as much of a whimper - either a first week exit or straight sets exit in week 2 if they somehow find a way to finish top 4.

We always show just enough to **** the club out of making change, never enough to actually do anything.
Precisely this. It's why this is on the board to start to see the long term trends we've seen and realise the common denominator which needs to be changed.

We desperately need change as a club. It couldn't be more obvious.

Most depressed I've been after a Port game... we are heading nowhere.... AGAIN. No game plan, no moves, no forward leads, WEAK backline....

Honestly....Beaten by a better team

But man we are frustrating

What pissed me off the most, not one player set a block for butters at a stoppage all night

Not one player bumped cincotta or niggled him to support zac

This is perfect.

I'd add imagine Farrell not spilling hard ground balls in defence straight to overwhelming opposition numbers, and instead hardening up and taking the tackle.
