Don't overlook that this is largely just a result of America's Presidential election system being broken because of the out-dated Electoral College.

Look at the total (popular) vote in those elections;

2016: Hillary Clinton got 3 million more votes than Trump (65 million to Trump's 62 million), but Hillary lost the election

2020: Joe Biden got 7 million more votes than Trump (88 million to Trump's 81 million), but the election was only a 'close win' for Biden

These elections aren't really close. They're artificially close because of the Electoral College's inequal weighting of votes. In any other country, Trump never gets close to the Presidency.
