Oh I don't know if you can say that .....Cook had more games played this year than the other 3 years combined ....I'd like to see his distances travelled, as to my eye, the laziness of previous years was replaced with a harder working Cook

15 out of 24 games, for a 27 game player ....isn't exactly failing to lock down a spot in the side ....and you don't get those games if aspects of your game, that saw you failing to get picked in previous years, haven't improved

If someone can't turn a bit of good fortune like an injury opening the door for them to break into the best 22 into being a locked in member at that point, they're not going to be an AFL caliber player. Twomey confirmed what I had been told straight after the SA draft combine, that Draper was very high on their draft board. Would’ve taken him if Richmond went with FOS.

Then it would have played out like this in that case

We may have ended up with Smith as reckon Blues may have taken Lalor.

Bottom line is the 1st 4 players look like guns & we couldn't lose with pick 4.

Although, it was mentioned in the article they rated Smith the best player in the draft so every chance they still take smith in that scenario

Interesting, as Lalor was one that wasn't really linked to us at all throughout the lead-up - probably because he was basically all but confirmed to go at 1

Agree - I think its because they never saw Lalor slipping to 4...although if we could have got pick 2, then he may well have been in the conversation up until very late.

Why are people acting surprised by Cook’s contract extension?

The club basically publicly admitted that he was long project, and we we needed how much development his body had left.

I was hoping he'd jump up a level as he became more familiar and comfortable at the level. I think there's a player there but he's not going to keep getting these opportunities. We'll move onto the next player

he needs a dominate preseason and a run at it from the start. If he cant make a case for selection in round 1 2025 i would think he will find it very hard to get game time as others will surely go past him.

Hamish spoke very glowingly of Lalor in an interview after the draft re his potential enormous upside.

Just checking - because I really like what Berry is becoming and think Cook is just getting his feet, but has serious potential to make a leap really quickly.

If Berry can’t eliminate the fumbles from his game than he’ll never be anything more than depth. And lucky to be that.

He shows little bits in every game he plays, but even for a long term project which is was meant to be, thats not enough now.

He'll likely start in the 2s and id love to see him start to rip games apart. Dont think he will, but he needs to.

Those fumble games were diabolical

No idea what happened there as I can't recall him being fumbly in previous seasons

Hopefully he was nursing a broken finger for a few weeks or something

I am a Berry fan (hence the avatar) but any further sign of fumbling and he needs to have a line put through his name because it's a terminal condition that will only be exposed further should we climb the ladder.

Cook gives me half forward flanker from the 80s vibes. Talented but flaky, will float across the pack for a mark, get out the back for a goal, go completely missing for a half.

Game doesn’t allow for that kind of player much anymore, have to at least get involved defensively. Seems pretty laconic, might have been a few decades too late.

Inclined to agree. Really liked the one game he played in 2023 where he played higher up the ground but we seemed to relegate him to half forward a lot more this year. Would be curious to see him in a role where he’s constantly fed the ball off half back but he’s probably too flakey on the defensive side of things.

I thought he’d be a good fit to play in the McAdam role as the deeper forward, albeit in a slightly different manner to McAdam, but he did struggle to accumulate consistently which is an issue.

When he gets the ball he usually does something creative with it, but finding a role where he can impact consistently is the challenge.

He’s got a heap of talent IMO, and I still think he’s worth persevering with, maybe more as a wing back who really pushes forward to stretch the opposition defence,

That's not what I saw of Cook .....he roamed a lot more than you think, which came with improved AFL fitness

I feel like heat maps of low disposal counts don’t tell the full story - we definitely played him in a deep McAdam-esque role for parts of the season. And if we assume he was truly roaming, he’s still not accumulating. We either need to directly feed him more or accept he’s unlikely to make it.
