Geelong has only played 2 clubs in more finals than against RichmondThats like getting 6 roots in your life and claiming to be a pr0n star
2012-2017 didn't get a look in?1946 Premiers
1947 Lost GF by a point
1948 Drew GF (with 15 more scoring shots), lost replay
1949 Premiers
1950 Premiers
(Also lost the 1951 GF by 12 points without Coleman due to suspension)
Coleman, Reynolds and Hutchison were playing together during this period - all designated legends in the hall of fame

Over a two-year period? Sure.Only someone living in a fantasy world would not understand why back to back flags carry more weight than a single flag.
On here it means your a better blokeOver a two-year period? Sure.
In an overall period? Meh
Flag, GF, Flag
vs
Flag, Flag, GF
I think the latter might be slightly better. But it's not a huge difference IMO.
I think that sometimes people like to retrospectively try and fit meanings and stories to sporting results when sometimes there isn't one. The idea that people suddenly "try a bit harder" against the reigning premier is a bit much for me - it's not as though anyone ran into Richmond in the 2017 finals and thought oh, it's only Richmond.Of course it makes you a better team.
You’ve gone to the top of the mountain and then when everyone is trying to stop you you’ve gone and done it again TWICE.
On here it means your a better bloke
They can turn a thread about tennis into a footy shitfightI don't know what the answer is, but I would be interested to read the opinions of non-GEE/RICH/HAW fans.
I don't think supporters of those teams are able to argue the point objectively.
You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think the premiers don’t have everyone else in the league gunning for them the very next year.I think that sometimes people like to retrospectively try and fit meanings and stories to sporting results when sometimes there isn't one. If anything, being the best in the comp could give you the advantage of having sides beaten in their mind before you step on the field.
When we lost in 2008, people jumped to the conclusion that we got ahead of ourselves. When we won in 2009, people jumped to the conclusion that we were so hell-bent on a redemption arc, that we wouldn't have won it had we won 2008.
Honestly, I suspect that it's just as simple as saying that everything that could have gone wrong in 2008, did - and we were very lucky in 2009. That's just life, sometimes it's a bit random, all you can do is just try and weight the odds as best you can in your favour.

How about prelim, flag, 9th?
Now do GF, Flag, Flag,Flag.
Honestly, I think the reason why clubs find it hard to go back to back is because, in a knockout finals system, winning a flag is very very hard to do.You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think the premiers don’t have everyone else in the league gunning for them the very next year.
It’s quite obviously one of the key reasons that clubs find it so hard to go back to back.
This is beyond daft.Teams only try to stop the reigning premiers?
Or you campaigners to decide that we can win 20 games in 2011 and only lose 3 just to give us a new way of not going back to backHonestly, I think the reason why clubs find it hard to go back to back is because, in a knockout finals system, winning a flag is very very hard to do.
All you need is just one bad day at the wrong time (Essendon 1999, Richmond 2018, Geelong 2008, St Kilda 2009, Hawthorn 2012) and hey presto, the best team just got knocked out of the comp.
It's a simple question.This is beyond daft.
CorrectUniversity and Gold Coast?

Indeed.It's a simple question.
Congratulations on posting the dumbest thing I’ve read today.Statistically teams find it hard to go premiers, grand finalists, premiers, preliminary finalists, premiers.
Should we start putting that up on an even higher pedestal?
Best sides? Plural? So not just the reigning premiers?Indeed.
I’ve read for six months that Hawthorn only won games in 2024 because no one put any time into them, but sure you can pretend that clubs don’t spend the summer trying to pull apart the best sides in it.
People forget just how unbelievable Collingwood was that year. Late in the season they had a % of something like 182, it's almost unthinkable.Or you campaigners to decide that we can win 20 games in 2011 and only lose 3 just to give us a new way of not going back to back
Teams like Carlton and Essendon struggle to go rebuild, rebuild, rebuild, lose a final, sack coach, win final.Statistically teams find it hard to go premiers, grand finalists, premiers, preliminary finalists, premiers.
