Autopsy Round 3, 2025: Hawks fell the Giants

Sshhh.

We don’t want him on the Hawks. He has no f****n clue and it’s better he doesn’t.

He was so up and about how the GWS forwards were now at full tilt and expecting them to damage our defence.

Bzzzt. Wrong again David. Calling it now. We have the best defensive group of about 10 players that are capable of handling any type of forward set up.
I can see Kane on Monday getting into an argument with Kingy about us. Kingy saying he's still not sold on us etc, kane will say " They were nearly 40 points down at qtr time and the Giants kicked 4 goals the rest of the game how is it that not impressive, you don't want to show all your cards early etc. Kingy " Not enough Hokball only kicked 10 goals". Bloke is a plonker.

The maturity and the belief to come back from a goalless first quarter where we were 35 down was incredible.

Adapting better to defend the wind advantage and turning it around to out score them in the third quarter was the game. And the skill and effort to execute on that so well is what separates the good from the best.

Goalless first and last quarter shows there’s heaps of room for improvement.

Meek and Day were huge out of the middle in the second quarter. Day in particular showed why, with the influence he can have over games, he could be the second best player in the game.

Behind the soon to be first best player, Nick Watson. Who showed tonight his best position will be midfielder when he has the tank for it. Every time he’s near it he threatens to create chaos that goes to our advantage. His acceleration, speed and agility were on display as he played higher up the ground. There’s not enough space in a crowded 50 to see this as often as we could. Needs to be around the ball as often as possible. I’d still back him to kick 2-3 goals from the midfield.

Watson's game was the most Rioli-like game since a guy named Cyril Rioli played.

Just finished watching the game.. What a comeback (from the first)!

For me, best were Weddle, Day, Wiz, Dimma (despite his wayward last quarter), but most put in rock solid performances with room to improve.

Best for GWS: Umpires.. all of em...

Pretty amazing that the two greatest forwards of all time (according to the amount of air given to them by the commentators) in Kako and Stringer have only scored a combined 1 goal against us.

I would call that four straight wins to start the season, without playing particularly well in any of the games. Which means the system we're playing to is holding up. At the moment, the Hawks can afford to carry a few passengers each week or get beaten in certain statistical areas because every player is, at the minimum, competent enough in their role.
Toward the end of the call tonight Buckley said it wasn't any single feature of structure, speed, system or determination that made us so hard to play against, but all four of them.

It amazes me how "footy smart" and adaptable this team is. Each week they've crafted a different way of winning to overcome the conditions and the strength of the opposition on the day.

Wasn’t able to watch the match but have watched the highlights and was pleased to see Ginni involved in a few goals so not as bad as I thought from listening. Hope he can get on the scoreboard himself in the next few matches though.

Me neither. Watxhed the first quarter, but then had to go to bed early start at 5am this morning. What a result to wake up too! Can't wait to watch the replay. Go Hawks

I'm not sure I'll make it the full season, if we keep winning like that.

Two quarters without goals...

Hey-zeus.

Most importantly, Finn kicked well. 72% DE, I'll take that. The pass to Hardwick was top shelf.
Yep that kick really showed me how far he has come.

Most impressive thing for me was Sam's ability to coach us back into it from that deficit at quater time. Obviously the boys deserve huge credit but the game was completely different after that 1st quater with the adjustments made. The boys obviously trust and want to play for Sam. Great signs.

So proud of the whole club after a win like that. Shows everything you want to see, smarts, grit, talent and commitment. To be 4-0 at the bye is great work given our draw. Boys deserve the rest.

And what they **** are they on about when they say "he drives through the legs"? How else are you meant to run?
I feel like they are referring to this type of action but they don't have the vocabulary to elaborate on it, which is a bit infuriating coming from people who are paid to talk. But yeah, pick up the ball, drive upwards on that 45 degree angle, can be very hard for the tackling player to deal with to be hit on that angle. images-159.jpeg

Were you watching the game? He was chasing like crazy.

Sure, it was his best game for the club, but he certainly didn't have a stinker.

Ah, yes. The tactical sub for an older, slower, shorter player. Happens all the time.

Chol got beat like a red-headed stepchild. He didn’t win a single one-on-one contest and at best halved five. Hot got beaten badly, frequently a mark to Taylor, about what seemed a dozen times. Chasing is the cream, not the cake for a full forward.

Anyways, film will be reviewed and game will be worked on. The Chols Royce is the man until we get Dear back as an option. He’ll lift his socks again.

He won't publicly change his opinion, would mean they couldn't keep drawing a couple of hours of content a week out of disagreeing about Hawthorn.
