Well it has taken 30 or so years but I have never woken up game day playing Wet toast thinking I really couldn't care less if we win or not. After watching several games this weekend, we are nowhere near the sides that will be playing in mid-September to late September. Of course I may be forced to eat humble pie (hopefully with ketchup) but I just think 2 games into the season it is going to be another year of mediocrity. Sure, it hurts but every year it hurts a bit less. That dirty word Hope. I think I have lost it.

Please make a thread about how you feel about that that morning as well.

It’s a win-win game.

Win and maybe we get the season back on track.

Lose and maybe we sack the coach (if not after the game the next big loss surely sees the end) and start afresh so someone else can get the best out of the talent on the list.

I feel your pain, I’ve generally been an optimist but feel like this season has had a stink to it from the all star scratch match. Everyone saying the right things but on field it doesn’t look like a cohesive unit. I don’t enjoy going to the footy as much but out that down to older age. I’ve even elected to stay home over the last couple of seasons a handful of times which would’ve been unthinkable of me to do 5 years ago.

A lot of evidence stacking up that suggests 2022 was the outlier and we’re just a mediocre team. We have not beaten many teams of note and would be about the only team in the league to have had losses at home to Richmond, North & WC over the last 2-3 seasons. Yet we go in undermanned at the SCG and end a 10 game win streak last season and likewise we ended Melbourne’s massive win streak in 2022 when we were coming off poor efforts.

Gotta be mental or a coaching thing imo.

Same
I cant believe the hype the pre ceded us this year, when in reality nothing has change since we lost the last 4 games last year.
Same coach, same players etc.. so where'd all this false expectation come from ?
One thing that I cant really abide, and its one of the reasons I handed my memberships in, it the AFL's treatment of heartland clubs like ours
This century all he flags (bar West Coast and Port) have been won by a club who have been given an advantage by the AFL, wether that be 18 games year at the G or in Vic, or teams who have academies and/or extra salary caps or draft picks due to being in "expanding markets".Gold Coast look to have arrived, with a coach parachuted in there thanks the the AFL.
Also don't get me started on F&S rule. how about exclusive access to a gene pool ? all well and good if you have one to choose from .
We are left as one of the few clubs who have to compete on a "level" playing field, i.e with a handycap
The stats don't lie and a quarter into this century the results speak for themselves.I'm not subsidising anymore via my membership
Go Freo still but the reality of it has finally beaten me

I can't emphasise the importance of supporting Fremantle on your own terms.

The run of gather round into the Derby and the finish of the final four games of 2024, was essentially the most difficult stretches of being a Fremantle supporter. Along comes the 2025 season and we receive strong quotes from Garlick & Longmuir about there being no more excuses, the time is now, enough is enough, we're a big club now time to act like it. Lo and behold we're still bad, nothing has changed.

The marketing of this team, to its' already established and robust supporter base is practically guilting you into staying around a little longer, rocking up to the most expensive supporter seats in the country, regardless of what happens.

The competition is already tilted against WA teams, the club has mostly been run as a semi-professional organisation comparative to elite sporting teams, the national media apparatus hates the shit out of us, with practically no representation unless we're shitting the bed. Yet, the financial compulsion of the team to be successful, puts the heavy lifting on the supporter.

If you don't turn up to Optus fortnightly (membership packages now available, don't miss out!), watch every away game (buy Kayo now!), buy $400 worth of merch every year (buy our new 2025 season jumper, its the same as the last 10 years but can you please buy it???? its $200 now), can you really call yourself a supporter?

You're not going to lose your ability to call yourself a real fan if you step away for a while. Put your phone away, see a movie, go for a walk and check the score when the game is over. You can always watch the replay if we win. The entire experience is a scam that's trying to extract the most cash out of you, by balancing real moments of joy and manufactured enthusiasm. When the balance is off, just step away for a little bit.

It seems the club only understands financial pain before taking action.

I was going to buy a 5th seat this year, but I’m not going too.

The idea that Geelong and Sydney are elite is rubbish. Both sit 1-2. We’ve lost to two middle of the road teams.

Gold Coast has improved out of sight. Essendon look pretty good too. Bulldogs look strong. I think we sit around the 10-14th placed club at the moment, I can’t see it changing under the guidance of Longmuir. I think he’s the worst coach in the AFL.

Essendon don’t look good. Bulldogs look like they’ve gone backwards from last year. Port and Carlton have gone backwards. Sydney have gone backwards. Freo have gone backwards and Longmuir sucks.

I'm the same. Zero game day hype. It's weird.

Maybe when Coldplay cranks I'll suddenly get hyped up 🤣

Got to agree, very flat for a derby we are presumably favourites in.

Shai is about to play his second game for the club, Reid might be special, Treacy is special. Each to their own but if that doesn't make you smile and hold on until we finally et our act into gear....
I have survived with this club since 1995 on the expectation that some player/s will come along and be the messiahs. It's never happened and never will.
After joining before we even played a game, I am now a broken man. They have defeated me.

In 2023 I didn't watch a single game, but I lurked here with y'all all year.

I wanted to go a whole year without shouting as I realised I'd been foaming at the mouth and screaming myself hoarse, for half the year, my whole life and due to my personal situation at the time, I required peace and quiet.

Footy has felt so different, lighter, ever since.

Same, it’s an hour from game time and I DGAF. Never had that with freo before. Might not even watch it today, just follow the scores and catch the highlights if we win.
