Reckon they were worried re speed up forward and needing enough pressure when ball hits the deck

When you have 3 tall forwards and lose a nippy ish small I guess that’s the price you pay for having those forwards
Also an element of managing him in game, given he came on about an hour before he was due.

Ill be honest i thought he had more than 7 touches

We were well in control of the game, he could have been chucked in for some centre square work and moved forward. By memory he didn’t attend one did he?

It just reeks of Nicks being too rigid with his match day coaching.

Did Dawson spend all his time on the ball? Good opportunity to send him forward
I would have used it as an opportunity to send him behind the ball a bit more, our defence was under more pressure than it has been so far this season and his ability to read the ball and help organise the defensive unit would have been important.

Plus it would give some more time in the middle for Sid to get into the game.

He attended 1 according to stats. And while we were in control of the game North kept finding a way to keep it close enough that we couldn’t get comfortable to just do what we wanted to do. Really was only last half of the last quarter it was completely beyond doubt.

Good:
Melbourne saying no to Harrison Petty for 2 first rounders, that would have been a diabolical trade and we would be 0-3 right now.
Rankine is superb, clean inside/outside ball hunter.
Jake Soligo is a star, lays tackles, runs hard both ways, gets the footy out and uses the ball well.
Riley Thilthorpe not only has great hands and amazing skill for a big man but he works his backside off in the forward line, he chased really hard all day.
Dan Curtins best game, wasn't sure about him round 1 but he looks so much stronger through the legs and is CLEAN, that little touch to get Drapers first goal was just... neat.
Tex.... needs to play next year.
Keays, what a player, he is the man to look at for training standards
ROB was solid, Xerri never got on top.

Some average games from Crouch and Dawson which is a very good sign.

North Melbourne will cause some headaches and if they don't make it, they will definitely shape finals.

Bad:
The twat in the hat, umpire #35
Goal umpires and AO lol
Brian Taylors commentary on Channel 7 is awful compared to MMM. He is very likeable and entertaining on Radio, just bland on 7. I was at the game but heard some stuff on the Mini Match which was awful.

Ugly:
Racheles injury.

Keane getting a raw deal on here. Asked to go from intercepting 2nd KPD to lockdown on all but a Coleman Medalist.

Didn’t get outmarked once that I can think of, certainly not anywhere that mattered.

Copped 4 goals:

1. From a centre bounce with 6-6-6 space in front of him, beaten on a lead, 50 from goal on an angle. Not much to be done about that.

2. Keane guarding dangerous space and lost Larkey, scrubber kick drops into his arms. A bit of a mistake by Keane but it took some real bad luck to be punished for it.

3. A total system breakdown from a slow play where Darling was shaping to shoot from 55, leads to Milera getting stuck with Larkey and giving away a (soft) free kick. As part of the system breakdown, Keane has to wear his share of the responsibility, but no more than his skipper for example.

4. Keane gives away a free for morning his own business while Larkey wrestles him so aggressively he (Larkey) falls over.

He wasn’t perfect but I thought he did a lot more right than wrong having been given a very tough assignment.

I’d prefer Butts to come in and take the best forward and let Keane get back to his comfort zone.

I posted at the time, the mark Larkey took on Milera was weird as another kangaroos bloke in the square blocked Keane at about the time the mark on 50 was taken. Keane let Milera stay on Larkey with no attempt to even get back on Larkey.
I’m assuming with the hope of coming over the top except they never happened.
They had 20 seconds to sort out who was on who.

It’s been a feature of the Nicks era Crows that we collectively switch off when an opponent is lining up for goal. We are prone to: (a) short passes to free players in much better positions, (b) better kicks wheeling around the back and getting a handball receive, (c) giving up easy marks in what should be pack situations when the kicker goes to the top of the square instead of having a shot.

This was an example of the latter (even though it ended up being a free kick not a mark). Was Keane culpable? Yes. Were there also three or four other guys in the vicinity who did nothing about making sure we were in a position to deal with the obvious threat of Larkey if Darling laid it up? Yes.

It was a system breakdown (of which Keane was an important part) rather than a Keane-specific error.

As it happened I still need some convincing Milera actually infringed, but that’s not the point.

How good a year is Hingey having so far.

Sholl is just physically not up to it. It's not a lack of intent, but he's just to easily moved off the ball. He's next in line to drop out for me, after Jnr (who must make way for Nank).
The holding the ball against him was a total raffle though. Immediately preceded by several other rolls of the dice on tackles, and the worlds most random adjudication of a 15m kick.

It's like they flipped a coin 5 times in a row, came up with north every time and then went "well then! That deserves a goal".

However he was not great when he needed to tackle. Parker just threw him off and they got a goal from it. Can't be having that.

Two little things from yesterday .....

THE FUTURE - on display
Third quarter highlight - Curtin beats three NM players to gather ball, dribble kick to Thillthorpe who handballs to Draper - GOAL

Just after that, Ben Keays busted his guts to chase McKercher for about 50 metres on the eastern wing. He was never going to catch him but he still did it anyway.

Yeah, Hinge was very good today, but (from the AFC site --- ****nows what metrics they use):
"Adelaide: Laird [], Rankine, Soligo, Dawson, Keays" <== note: no love for Walker, either :eekv1: .
Tex's 2 goals from ruck contests in our F50 were great individual highlights; 4 for the game

Laird was not BoG, nor Rankine our second best.
Laird was close to bog. Excellent game. Hinge probably a bit better, but it was pretty close imo.

That whole passage of play and then the decision against Sholl was just insane umpiring. It's the sort of stuff that puts people off the game due to inconsistency.

It sort of felt scripted with the umpire thinking, 'yeah I'll pay that one and really rile everybody up', just for the drama...

And we still didn’t give him a run then
