Faced with the chance to run the injury plagued Blues off their feet in the third quarter, Ross instead sees a chance to engage in a dour repeat stoppage game and falls for it hook line and sinker.

Not that I'm complaining.

Ross Lyon would disagree.

Given we were 3 down, can't really flood anything except the bench.
Haven't seen any other team flood like Carlton did tonight, 16 inside our 50, the other 2 10m inside the square

I also find it funny how quiet this thread was last week after a win

Seeing the club I support contending and winning premierships keeps me happy, well at the very least engaged. Is that where Ross Lyon is headed with this list?

Who knows.

Last week it looked ok, this week against a side with two Coleman medallists, a Brownlow Medallist and an All-Australian defender not so much.

We lack class and it shows.

If you’ve got a shortcut that doesn’t involving doling out jobs for spouses, interest free loans and farms then please let us know.

So this the first game of football you have watched St Kilda play coached under Ross Lyon then?

Last week was against the youngest side in the league, mental minnows with the worst coach in the league, under a roof.

This week was against a 3-5 side who just barely win more than they lose over the past 3 and a half years. They lack class too.

The whinge at the end was a nice touch. Why would lucrative free agents want to go play for Lyon in no man's land though? You need to quadruple their wages to have a chance. If they do it, then it's sacrificing a chance of success for the sake of money.

You’ve lost me.

Come and join CCurnow in the Tom deKoning thread and we can all throw mud at each other there.

St Kilda are in no man's land and basically have been since 2011. That's the take home. Maybe in 2030 they'll be better than that as these kids replace Sinclair, Macrae, Steele, Wilkie, Wood, Hill, Webster etc.

Hey, don’t forget the final we won in 2020 !.

I reckon we’ll be better next year, that’s my take home.

Incorrect- they were the 2nd youngest team last week.

We were 3rd youngest.

This week was against a 3-5 side who just barely win more than they lose over the past 3 and a half years.
incorrect again - 15-1-10 and 13-11 in 2023 and 2024 (including finals).

And 12-1-7 at the G.

this year, 3-5 and 1-3 at the G heading into tonight.

But fact is, Carlton were expected to contend for the flag. They're an experienced team playing on a ground they know well.

St Kildas were tipped to finish bottom 4 by the "footy experts", and they're bringing a team with a median age of 23 and 6 players with under 20 games experience.

A 15 point loss isn't a terrible result at all. Objectively.

Yes Carlton lost players but we lost a guy who's 2nd in the Coleman. Carlton also got a couple of goals from questionable frees.

Pretty happy with St Kilda's season to date and not overly disappointed tonight at all.

42 H&A wins from 76 games headed into tonight for Carlton since 2022. 55% win rate. Let's not try and pump them up just because St Kilda lost.

Fair enough that Fremantle were 2nd youngest. It doesn't really change my point, nor did you dispute my other points around that team.

Blaming the umpires is really poor form.

St Kilda finished 6th in 2023. They were okay last year and about the same this year. When is the significant push up the ladder into contention actually going to arrive?

And how does that rate in the AFL? Probably 5th or 6th in an 18 team comp.

How many other teams have finished 9th or better the last 3 years straight?

Only Collingwood, Brisbane, Sydney and the Dogs.

They've been a good team under any objective measure.

The facts are the facts.

St Kilda's played up to 12 players aged 22 or under this season.

No one else in the comp has played as many kids.

In 2 or 3 years, when that group are all 21-24 with 50-100 games, hopefully King's healthy and our veterans are still playing well (Sinclair, Wilkie, Marshall who are 29-30 now). And we could be contending in 2027 and 2028.

That's the path. Will it happen? Maybe, maybe not.

But this year, it's unrealistic to expect a team with 9 or 10 kids to play finals. Very few teams line up like that, much less play finals.

Okay I get it, you rate the Blues highly. They're another middling club, although they have threatened to be better than that at times. Right now is not one of those times. Getting them when they're in the top 4 or on a big winning streak is.

Time is running out before that veteran core start declining. Yes: 2027, 2028 at a push may be the sweet spot.

We attacked, Carlton flooded back.

To fart constanza are Carlton football terrorists.
What the **** happened to you?

Where did that guy go?
Now you're just bitter and twisted and angry at the world.

Decided to canvass the site. I got through maybe 5-6 neutral boards. Not including my clubs, the main board thread or either competing team. I was already at 45 references to the standard of the game, it being boring, or bloody Ross Lyon. And most references were blaming St.K for that. A third of clubs and nearly 50 comments just on tonight's game. So why single out me for having the same view as seemingly a large amount of others on the site?

It's hilarious how Freo last weekend have been panned as one of the worst performances in history, coach needs to be sacked by 8am Monday, yet up until deep in the 3rd quarter Saints managed a ... three goal lead. Wow. And apparently this was an elite performance by the Saints.

By this point Ross knows his ultra defensive game plan doesn't work. He hasn't changed or evolved one bit since 2006. But we know he had financial problems in the past and if he just keeps the Saints mid ladder with his control of the board he can wring another 5 years or more out of them on a coaches salary.

I feel sorry for Saints fan. Yes Freos coach is worse but he will hopefully be gone by 2026. Saints have another 5+ years of this hell and if Ross can keep them finishing 6 - 10 probably longer than that

Only Ross Lyon floods don't you know.

16 always in our forward 50 and yet it's somehow our fault.
