Pretty much this.

We could be sitting 2nd on the ladder and they would be justifying why they are deeply aggrieved.
It’s the next morning… and I am STILL pissed at how that game ended. Grateful for the win, don’t get me wrong. Anytime we beat Port is a beautiful thing! I haven’t seen the presser yet but I bet he didn’t comment about the ridiculous slow down (T💪) he attempted with ten minutes to go. Or the inexplicable change (or lack there of) to our midfield rotations from last week. He made NO changes in the first half despite us getting soundly walloped in the middle. The ONLY good thing to come out of that game is the four points and the knowledge that last year, we would have lost that.

The end is fast approaching for big Tex. we are now seeing the one thing old blokes do when their career reaches the pearly gates…

They go to ground.

Yeah I get it but I also give him a bit of a pass because to be completely real he should be given every 6th game off and yet here we are 9 games in and he has played every one

Tex - poor bugga needs to be managed better - yet another terrible decision by our coach

Nah don't agree, he is a.professional getting paid good money.so don't feel too sorry for him.

He wanted to play on more than the club wanted him to. He was just beaten last night and couldn't get into the game.

I sound like Kane Cornes but we aren't dynamic enough up forward. It's not on one particular player, I think the mix is wrong.

Waking up I'm a lot more venomous toward Nicks than I was previously. I stand by the fact that we have players who make dumb decisions but:

- Letting their mids run amok - every week anyone who takes the best oppo midfielder to get 30+ touches is making bank - we just don't think we ever need to stop them. Fine if we are holding our own in the guts but last night we were getting pantsed.

- Waiting so long before sending Izak forward. This shouldn't be a break glass scenario, he should be spending a portion forward every qtr - things just happen when he is there

- Tactics in the last 10 mins - we conceded the shots they required to have a chance to win. I think with Rioli they might just win last night. Against a team with better bookends we are toast.

- We seem to still be stuck in a mindset (that seems to be endemic with Nicks) that the team winning means individual performances mean nothing. I think it's time we held some players to greater account, not just Sid. Milera, looking at you.

We've basically only played middle of the ladder teams so far

7 games to come against the 5 other top 6 sides.
6 games to come against the bottom 5
And another Showdown

And our record against middle of the road sides the last couple of years has been appalling. We tend to rise to the occasion when we play top 6 sides.

The Good

We won a game we had no right to, and we don't normally do that. This is also bad.

Riley Thilthorpe is the best key forward in the game. He does things the other candidates can't.

Mark Keane does many silly things.... but I'll forgive him after that mark.

James Peatling was immense amongst a lot of flat teammates.

Rankines last quarter burst.

BAD

Most of the game.

UGLY

Wayne Milera - love you, but when you have aforementioned dominant key forward, if you've got the ball 70m out from goal... kick him the ****ing ball. That switch changed momentum.

And Tex, when you've had a dirty night and you have a choice to either kick the miracle goal or again, hit the wide open dominant key forward 30 metres away... kick him the ****ing ball !!!!

That is all

Good: Worrell, Peatling, Thilthorpe, Berry, O’Brien, Keays

Bad: Walker, Dawson, Milera’s first half (I thought he was better in the second)

Ugly: Nicks, just some seriously dumb coaching moves.
Trying to curb Butters influence at stoppage by having Dawson, who was being tagged, try to stop him.
Using Taylor to tag Rozee. Poor Zac battled all night, but clearly couldn’t keep up, and worse still was so gassed from trying that he couldn’t impact at all going forward. Is Keays not the perfect option for a role like that?
The last 10 minutes. Berry coming on was actually a really good move and we had gotten some control back at the stoppages. We’d kicked three in a row, Rankine had gotten off the leash and they clearly could not handle Thilthorpe. How was trying to stall for 10 minutes the option there? That’s not even being a hindsight hero, we all said it on here, the commentators said it, apparently everyone but Nicks could see it.

It’s ****ed. Our list is great, we’re 6-3 and we just won a Showdown. I should be ecstatic but I just can’t see us achieving anything while he’s our coach.

Probably too late now but given we don't have an elite midfielder, we need to develop a tagger (Bond) to minimize the impact the oppositions elite midfielder has on the game. We also need to bring back Draper given he is the only potential elite midfielder we have on our list.

We won't win a flag with Nicks and our list is still 4 or 5 quality players off from being a genuine contending list.

That 2018 draft still haunts me.

Rachele has moved on, so should you.

But those 2 acts did ruin what was a decent game from Laird tbh
No.

The fact remains that Laird did an unnecessary undisciplined act in giving away that 50m that led directly to a goal.

As a senior player he is held to higher level of accountability.

Personally I’d drop him this week. Now he did kick well to Fogarty in the third tho and it wasn’t normally one of his sand wedge kicks that go as high as long.

He had a pretty good game outside of those two moments.

Just as dropping Rachele for one bad moment was dumb, dropping Laird for the same thing would also be dumb.

I hope he cops it internally though for those two moments. Remind him that if wants the luxuries of being a senior player and leader, the assumption is that you’re not the one who does dumb shit like that.

Van Berlo needs to go. That was the mother of all spankings around the contest. His set ups were pathetic. The amount of space we had around a ball up or throw in for Port players to run into was insane.
Would have lost the game from it if Rozee could kick a goal from 15 m out

Was it just me or should Finlayson have been penalized for stepping over the line in centre bounce at least 3 or 4 times?

It wasn’t just you, but in fairness to the umpires that’d be an extremely hard one to catch unless you were looking for it.

I’d suspect it’ll come up in their review and he’ll probably get done for it if he does it next week.

What??? If there is anything left in the crack pipe - please share it with friends.

We are the #1 team for Goals, #1 team for Goal Assists, #2 for marks inside 50 in the league despite being 7th for inside 50's.

We have the best forward line in the league. We had 41 inside 50's last night and had 24 scoring shots.

Our 3 KPF have 61 goals between them and are sitting 2nd, 7th and 14th in the Coleman race.

Our 3 smalls - are all in the top 40 for goals with Keays, Rachele, Rankine combining for 39 goals through 9 games.

How in the world could we be more dynamic?!?!?
