Well that's not necessarily true. The point is, we don't know what normal is. Maybe it's 17 hours contact. Maybe we have a more 'flexible' arrangement than other clubs, trusting players to do set work or recovery on their own. Those are selling points but still give us zero context about what we're actually being compared with.

Lyon said one less day I'm pretty sure.

I actually watched liam Ryan win a clearance against what we are told is a st kilda midfield. Then when making comment about how ****ed that is and how insulting it is he then went and won another.

This is not a midfield. We are going no where.

I didn't even think the umpiring was that bad,
They denied them a heap of high free kicks where they dropped their knees. Should almost be a rule where it's a free kick against.
They hit a with a couple of inconsistent insufficient intent and short kick decisions but we were our enemies today,
It was sickening, deliberate calls, 50s, in the backs. Was almost as bad we were

Rtb needs the blowtorch applied for once.
And can we please just go back to our real tripanel and real name and real crest please.
I don't understand why the club is so quick to ignore our history. If we don't have the crest, don't have the colours, or the name, what have we got left?

The team selection was poor.
Why didn’t Jones and Clark play
Shoemaker a better choice than Gus
Because we thought we’d go over and just roll them, when this was really a must win game. You put in your most experienced to try even the ledger and play just a couple of kids. They completely pulled the wrong lever.
The coaches need a good, hard look at themselves too.
Guys who played under 50 games are going to do that. That's on coaches. Selected too many kids and stacked the backs with sun 20 game players.

Far from our worst but Nas has gone from being the most underrated 20 year old to the most over-hyped 22 year old.

I hope he signs on, desperately, but he is hitting about 50% of his potential on current output. We've shot ourselves in the foot in that we will be giving him one of the biggest AFL contracts to stay and its purely on potential given our dearth of talent.

Much like Sincs, Nas is an ok midfielder and a grade half back. I'm not convinced TDK will make one iota of difference to our side, but then again, we'd need half a dozen a graders to be a finals team.

We still have to get people to attend and attract players.

Attendance doesn't mean anything.

If the AFL weren't going to force North to merge/relocate over the last few years then we will be fine.

Part of the deal with Collingwood/Carlton/Essendon/Hawthorn getting all the prime time games is that clubs like ours get kept on life support by the AFL, regardless of performance.

As for attracting players:

I've spoken about it before but we are NEVER going to get a fair crack at FA or trade moves for players wanting to play in Vic.

We will always have to pay well overs in terms of salary cap.

Otherwise the only players we are poaching from other clubs are guys that were borderline best 23 (Wood, Butler, Stocker, Dow) or B/C Graders (Howard, Jones, Cordy) or young blokes looking for opportunities (Steele, Carroll) or older guys getting paid overs to pick us (Macrae, Hill)

I'd argue that the only value we've had in terms of recent trades was Paddy Ryder & Liam Henry.

Everyone else was either untried, unproven or bought with cash rather than a desire to play for the Saints and make us better.

If we pick up TDK this year it's not because he loves the idea of playing for Ross Lyon on Sunday arvos at Marvel.

It's because we are going to pay him millions of dollars more than anyone else is willing to offer. And he still might turn us down!!

It's the exact reason the threat of NWM leaving feels so real. We could offer him 1.7 million to stay, just as the Crows/Power could offer him 1.3 million to leave... and play at 'home' on a nicer ground than Marvel, with bigger/more passionate crowds, and two Showdowns a year.

For as long as the big Vic clubs keep selling out the MCG on Thursday and Friday nights, we will NEVER be getting free agents at fair market value, regardless of our performances on field.

Ross was touting it as a positive a month or two back in, I think, the pre-game press conference. Definitely said it.

He said it was amongst the lowest contact hours in the AFL
Have been to a few events Ross has spoken at the last few months. He is very quick to point out that Saints rate highly as a preferred workplace in the AFL.

The extra day off is part of that. No wonder the players are enjoying themselves. Less work, same pay, more time to play Fortnite. Happy days.

Steele is finished, but 14 tackles suggests he is still giving effort...

Macrae was horrid again today, slow, sloppy and doesn't defend. Can see why Bevo moved him on.

Collard has been gifted games all season, I have seen nothing to suggest that he will make it as a footballer.

Sharman unsighted, his bad games are very very poor.

Feel for Owen's playing as our main key forward each week, he almost looks broken.

Wilson's aerobic capacity sees him put up decent numbers and be able to hit the scoreboard, but he is genuinely scared of contact and so fumbly.

Garcia is a bang average footballer, don't see him making it long term. Overrated by most on here. His skills and descision making deplorable, along with his mate windy.

Byrnes tries his guts out, and I can see he cares, but is a deer in the headlights, and another shocking skilled player with poor descion making.

Don't even wanna get started on hill..

Marshall, Wilkie and Sinclair are all lion hearted who rarely play a bad game.

Worst thing is, we have bugger all injuries, but absolutely nothing coming through in the reserves atm.
Agree with most of what you say, but no KPB and no KPF is hardly “bugger all injuries.”

NAS is a gun in a shit team.

Would love to see their schedule. Is there actually anytime spent in a gym?

The reaction after this game is laughable and pathetic.

Fact is, we're the younger team. And playing in Perth in front of 50k.

The only reason we were favourites is WC's been underachieving and we've been better than expected.

If this game had been played in round 1 West Coast would've been favourites. They gained confidence from last week, and were due a win. 0-10 starts rarely happen in modern AFL.

I was almost 50/50 on tipping West Coast. Stuck with Saints but the result is unsurprising.

We've had a solid opening 9 games, better than most people expected. So seeing this level of self flaggelation after a loss in Perth just shows how over-reactive people are. Short-term bias.

Underachieving? They've won 10 of the last 77 games and have probably won a single game in the last 12 months lol.

It's like losing a race against the kid with a broken leg. They've barely won a quarter for 2 years.
