Autopsy Round 10 - West Coast v St Kilda

Looks like someone who’s lost any belief whatsoever that he can impact a game of footy.

And, this was one of his games this year where I thought he actually had a crack, with 14 tackles, he just doesn’t seem to have it anymore to hold any impact in the cole face and can’t cover ground like he used to
He has not been at his best for going onto to his 3rd season since Lyon arrived , not saying that is the reason.
But why not just give Owens a crack as a ball extractor - try something - why have him in the forward line if we can't get it to him.

Going to try and steer clear of the media this week.
Well lucky for us,

The Blues lost
Essendon were smashed,
Giants too
and the Dees beat the premiers.

So there’s a lot to cover, and really nobody in the media rates the Saints anyway to discuss us too much.

Yet half this forum throws the toys out of the cot because we get pantsed at the coal face yet again. Can't have it both ways.

Don't want to tank, but pump games into the kids, but what a huge mistake not giving Membrey a contract so he could take their spot, piss and moan about consistency, but one of the youngest lists in the league, 10+ years of mediocrity, dogwater drafting/recruitment and Lethleans uber ego and gigabrain decisions, but Ross can't coach and hasn't been able to instantly turn over a list and performance of a club in 3 years in compromised competition when half the expansion clubs lists are mae up of top 10 picks and the premiers get arguably the top rated talent for peanuts.

On and on ad nauseum.
All comes down to winning the midfield - win it there and its in the forward line - we have not had a winning midfield since Lyon last coached.

I don’t know about you but personally I am grateful to have attended and learnt so much.

Surrounded by 180 IQ eagles fans, whose intellect was only surpassed by their grace and physical presentation. A real treat!
Yep I attended with an eagles membership, right in the thick of it. Gave myself away by yelling **** and putting my head in my hands when we deer in headlights under no pressure handball to the chest of the stationary eagles player in the centre.

Don't know who it was but thanks for that.

I went in with no expectations and still left disappointed.

We cut hard and played kids and have run out of talls. List management chose to make us a very young side and have left a lot of list holes.
Exactly and this is why we shouldn't expect much from this season

Without King and Howard we had only two genuine talls today- Marshall and Caminiti

We're lucky Marshall, Wilkie, Nas and Sinclair haven't missed games- and Macrae's been good. Those guys are structurally crucial, and they're the reason we haven't dropped into bottom 4 territory.

The goals for this year are

1. Re-sign NAS
2. See plenty of signs from the kids
3. Be competitive. Keep developing the game plan. 9-11 wins is the prediction I made at the start of the year and we're still on track

Then go to the draft again.

And if Nas does decide to leave, make sure we get Miles Bergman and Port's first round pick. Which would mean 2 top 10 picks for the 2nd year straight. And keep developing the list.

Couldn’t agree more, our issues in a nutshell right now, and seems like we’ve hit a halt with expecting our senior core to pull us over the line. They look exhausted
We seem to get duded all the time - our key piece hasn't basically played since Lyon arrived and Steele has been very average since Lyon been coach - the 2 areas we are in need of fixing.
On top of that we lose a player like Battle which is a joke - because they offered Whitering some stupid amount before offering a good deal for Battle.
Knowing our chances of getting the Carlton dude was 0.

G'day Saints fans.

I was excited all week, I was finally taking my daughter to her first game today.

Watching live, we just appeared weaker, we were getting stuff armed by nobodys and couldn't lay a tackle. We've gone down a running path, but when was the last time we ran over the top of our opposition...it's just not working.

Our disposal is shocking and NWM turns it over way too much to be considered an elite kick.... Most aren't even difficult, they're regulation.

To top it off, as we left the stadium, my daughter wanted me to buy her West Coast merch 😂.

These journos at the presser…..

“Are you happy for Andrew McQualter?”

Seriously?

Remember when we watched players like

Riewoldt
Hayes
Dal Santo
Goddard
Kosi
Ball
Fisher
Gehrig
Harvey
Milne
Schneider

I miss those days.
I know my kids were young then ….went to footy each week….just expected to win and mostly did ….awesome days
Relevant in the media …feared by opposition
These past 10+ years have been horrible
I remember that day at Marvel after GG loss…felt like a wake ….little did I know then we would be stepping into the wilderness do this long …

I actually watched liam Ryan win a clearance against what we are told is a st kilda midfield. Then when making comment about how ****ed that is and how insulting it is he then went and won another.

This is not a midfield. We are going no where.
In all fairness, Ryan is probably West Coast's best player this year.

Then pick a half back flanker and tell everyone we see him as a mid, wait, no, even better, an inside mid. Along with Bergman, who is also a half back flanker, who will be sold to us an a mid.

Barracking for St Kilda is a special kind of groundhog day.

I liked O’Connell’s game…

The rest of the match I just laid there on the couch depressed, even when we kicked a goal. I dunno, just didn’t play any nice flowing football at all, consistently panicking and bombing it to no one.

St Kilda game style feels like life, stressful and overloaded.

Yep I didn’t clap or cheer once.

Need a mid
Draft a hbf
Winning Culture is more important than gaining elite mids in the draft

Best post tonight.

The irony is we missed gun mids after storming home with 5 wins from the last 6 games. Including a final round win inside the last 10 seconds.

This 5-1 run boosted our percentage from 91.1 to 99.4 and took us from 15th to 12th.

In the counter factual scenario where St Kilda finishes the season with say, 3 wins from those final 6 games, we still finish 15th, and earn draft picks 5 and 6 or whatever, instead of 8 and 10.

In fact, just lose the final one to Carlton and we would've been 14th.

People are whinging that we don't have gun mids. Yet those final 6 games helped develop strong culture.

It's not easy being a small club. A small fish in a big pond.
