That word gets thrown around quite freely nowadays by people who might not know the definition. Accusing people of outright hating women over something as harmless as not enjoying a commentators style is crazy.

The point is, is that she is the only one that receives criticism everytime she commentates for ours (or other) games. No other very ordinary male commentator is subject to that every game on here. It is like clockwork. I finda few of the male commentators quite annoying but don't feel the need to post about it every week

Kelli is insufferable. It’s not that deep. Voice is grating. Footy knowledge is poor. Clear diversity hire.

From my pov, the issue I have is that when she’s trying to generate excitement she sounds like she’s straining with a stuck poo.

Even by that definition, nobody is disliking or prejudiced against Underwood because they are a woman.

We are disliking Underwood becuase they are a crap commentator with minimal football or commentary nous.

(Like my my use of the ol' they/them pronouns? I'm down with the kids )

I’m not suggesting either way, just that I don’t think anyone is saying that others here hate women, but they’re saying that they’re perhaps prejudiced against women in a traditionally ‘man’s world’.
FWIW I think that if there are people thinking that that they’d be in the minority, and that Kelli’s issues are just that she’s plain bad at her job.

I've seen plenty of people have cracks at commentators like Brereton & Lyons.

Hell, I've seen people (myself included) bag out Pav for his game calls.

Bad commentary is bad commentary, regardless of gender.

Dermot gets a gig because he's an AFL hall of famer. People want to hear what he has to say because he's a past star of the game, regardless of how rubbish it is.

Kelli Underwood has never played football at any level.

The article about Cox being embarrassed about his performance on Hogan in 2024 was a good read. I am glad he was honest enough to reveal how poor he played in that game and how he felt about it.

He copped plenty of flack on here and rightly so. However his effort in this weekends game was outstanding. We need to see more of this version of Brennan Cox.

I have been a critic of Cox in the past couple of seasons but am happy to see how he goes for the rest of this season after that game. Time to step up and help us nail a place in the finals now Coxy.

I think she talks too much, which is a common problem for commentators that learnt the craft on radio, who then forget that on TV we don't need as much described.
She then has the added disadvantage as others have pointed out of being a female voice that stands out and is more noticeable. But the fundamental problem is she talks like she's on radio so talks too much

Do you ever get the vibe that's she just trying too hard to be sensational and instead is just coming out cringey?

My dentist bills would suggest the latter.

I don't know, but to me it just feels like forced excitement rather than a natural reaction to the events of the game.

underwood debate reminds me of the star wars disney debate.
shes bad. but because of misogyny. the criticism is never received and never truly engaged with by the industry.

disney star wars had everyone's favourite hero who believed in the light of all people, even truly evil people. before turning him into into the equivalent of a nephew murdering hobo. but because of sexist and racial attacks by fans. the legitimate criticism of just character assassinating half a dozen fun characters never gets heard.

sorry, recently watched andor. shows a complete banger. everyone loves it. Its the most overtly anti MAGA show i've seen. but no one cares. because it doesn't involve race gender or climate change.

personally i can't wait for the female callers to filter through from the womens game.
the commentator pipeline is often

state league+ radio+ special comments > involvement in afl.

prior to that. the only option was radio for women. reckon women are generally more articulate with their speech. thus the talent available for calling has probably doubled.
