Hypothetical - Sam Darcy or Nick Daicos

It's so weird that some are basing their choice over who will be more impactful over their hopefully 15 year long careers on "potential". They should just compare who has done more at the age of 21, the 184cm mid or the 210cm forward, they'll develop at the same rate. Or maybe just point to all of the other 210cm forwards of the past and use them as a reference.
They wont develop at the same rate. Id argue Daicos has done most of his development as hes been in the Collingwood system for a very long time and has had his ideal body for his role for the last year or 2. Darcy is still filling out and has only had regular games this year(as hes a 208cm forward he takes longer).
There are no other forwards that tall to compare to.

You arent picking on the last 3.5 years of performances, you are picking on the overall 15-odd year careers and Darcy would be comfortably ahead by most non biased people

Daicos has only been successfully tagged when injured (eg Hawthorn 2022, GWS round 0), and even then usually still effective: it has got to the point opposition coaches designate players to actually wrestle him. Easily the best footballer from his draft with speed, lateral agility, top notch brains, absolute top tier skills, prep and good (and improving) attitude: has had a few sooks, now more likely to square up.

You can disagree with me about any of this, but I haven't seen anyone whose opinion is worth a pinch of shit say otherwise.

Father son loyalty means I choose Daicos every time.

But.

Hypothetically, if both or neither were f/s I choose Darcy, that potential is insane.

Only an average ruck so far (but thats a position that takes 6-8 years to grow into!) but freakishly tall and by no means a liability, yet Grundy like a ground level with excellent hands on the deck. Feels like he will get better and better here and hes already a fair 2nd ruck option.

Already a serious forward threat and the marking is a feature, kicking on goal already reliable and should improve. So a KPF with ruck and midfield options developing.

Seems to be a levelheaded kid, I thought when he remonstrated with the ump it was rhetorical and not silly raging: tactical raging if you will. Extremely focussed, don't know as much about his prep but my impression is he's as much of a nerd as Daicos and Pendles for that side of things.

I feel like he already has a feel for the emotional side of the game, its hard to put into words. he gave away a cheapie last time, smacked Howe or Lippa maybe? it was a square up, not a hotheaded revenge act, more "I care for my team mates, I'm around fellas". Usually a fairly deliberate free is a mark against a kid, but this was not that.

Clearly still gangly, and you'd say he will only increase the strength advantages he already exploits so well.

Absolutely terrifying. What have the Dogs got here?

This is a scary stat, at 21yo Darcy is already standout in contested marks, more than 1 mark per game higher than the next player who has played more than 1 game

Another 4 last night takes him to 3.4

Still taking Daics as he's the best in the comp but Darcy is a scary prospect

We saw this from Salmon and had the same conversations, he went on to have a great career but was never the best player in the game

Callaghan?

Canadian Lol GIF
Yeah bud

Except...

Premierships are built on, in order of priority:
1. Gun midfielders
2. Stingey defence
3. Versatile forwards
Big forwards make the difference, they are the generals all the rest are the soldiers.

Or does he get injured when he gets a tag? (aka has a sook about it and finds any excuse to get off the ground)

Your flaw was based around picking one because you wanted to win a flag? Which was already covered in the previous response. What you're attempting to do now is adding nothing to the thread.
Read the thread title, i picked who i would pick and an entilted Pie supporter wants to sook it up, that's my pick if you like it all not. Good midfielders are a dime a dozen and good key forwards win games.

Stop disrupting the thread and be a big boy, again i would pick Darcy every day of the week.

Carlton (allegedly) have two of the best big forwards in the game.

Where has it got them?
It's not about Carlton mate, you Pie supporters want to make every thread the same.

Completely different players, so impossible to compare.

One is the best young midfielder in the game and the other is the best young forward in the game.
It would depend on what you list needs are.
If you had a poor midfield like St Kilda or already had two big forwards and were one paced like Carlton, you would pick Nick.
If you lacked forward targets like Port, you would pick Sam.

Either way it was a cracking draft and you cannot go wrong with either.
Many, many years of enjoyable football to come watching these two young superstars play.
Nearly makes me wish for a State of Origin game.

Darcy and it’s not even close.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we see him raising the ton in a season over the next couple years.
That would be really cool

I hope he surpasses Daics, never thought I'd live long enough to see a better player than Daics

Ok.... now onto next week's thread: "Daicos or Callaghan?"

It's about big forwards who lead teams to premierships. (a.k.a. 'the difference)

As you yourself stated.

Carlton's performances with Harry AND Charlie are therefore a very relevant example to rebuke your comment.
