Autopsy Round 14, 2025: Hawks sink the Crows

Normally a HM basher but he played ok last night, could be a tad stronger over the ball though

One issue is that we have two really small wingmen and we are lucky it only got exposed twice last night by Curtain and Cummings

Its a great pick-up and it was the first time a team had dragged them deep.

We have struggled all season in the air on the wings, missing our KPF when we are forced to kick long from the back.

HM and D'Ambrosio are both in our best side, rotate them on 1 wing and across Half-forward.

The otherside should be a combo Jiath/Scrimshaw, defensive mindset, balances out our defence, helps in the air.

Weddle is the wild card if we have the right match up he could rotate with them.

What game of behind that was. I think if the Crows had their gps on, they should have taken a large lead to potentially demoralize the Hawks. I thought Jiath's performance was stellar and made a big impact during Q3 and Q4. That kid is full of energy and does not shy away from contesting everything. Good victory.

I'll have to go back and watch the last play again because I never caught the that (the ball being bashed away) but you can bet your bottom dollar if there's video evidence of this then someone in the media will bitch and bemoan about it. I did see CJ give away a free and then the siren sounding with it being over 100m away.

The WC Hawks Death Ride thread already think we got a ridiculous rub of the green in that game and that we'd be bottom 4 if not for the so called rub of the green we're getting from the umps this season 😂

It's a non-story, because there is a precedent.

We see your mob win like this regularly. For memory they were 5 goals down against Crows earlier this year and won.. Whilst not ideal, it shows a certain quality and mental fortitude in a side that can find a way to win when they essentially have little right to even be in it. Although I’d much rather a dominant display!

I caught some of the after match coverage on channel 7 once back at the hotel and without a doubt Daisy Thomas rivals Montagna as the biggest ****wits on TV.
He's also in the top two as far as ex-players who are now the biggest shills for the bookies, along with Nathan Brown. Sold their souls, they can both go and get ****ed as far as I'm concerned.

I watched the game out without a lot of commentary and I haven't read the comments on here so my views will be quite raw and maybe not in line with others. Firstly what an absolutely horrible game that neither team deserved to win.

I could probably damn five players of ours that had a good game and it would be about the same for them. Happy to get the win with that being said

Good

Impey was close to being best on. One player that tried all night and apart from being culpable for a soft goal in the second quarter was probably our best

There's something about CMac that Ginni and
Morrison don't have. It's called ticker.
Even when he stats are down I feel like you bring something to the game and it showed tonight. Has a crack composed and not a bad kick

Tom Barrass is just a smart player. Reminds me of Lake so much. He probably didn't have his best game last night but just does smart things

Despite shocking kicking in the last quarter Gunstons smarts around goal I really valuable

I like what Chol brings to the team. He's a good set shot and makes a contest.

Hardwick isn't and never will be A grade but you know what you're going to get with him. Tough uncompromising effort with good enough skills that he isn't a liability. Keep in in the backline

Bad

Umpiring both ways.

HH and Butler. I'm sorry but these guys are good VFL players not AFL players. They'll probably yoyo in and out of the team after a good performance in the VFL and then a s*** performance in the AFL but they're just not up to it

Harry Morrison is also not an AFL player.
He plays probably three or four decent games a year just when he's about to get dropped and the rest of the time is bog average. I don't know what he actually brings the team. He soft never seen him take a contested Mark. An ok kick but slow

I'm happy to give Ramsden another chance because of the conditions but he really needs to convert better
Worst take of the year

Where’s that rocksucker Adelaide poster that was in here laughing at our posts all week?

You laughing brah?
Vince in Tassie

suck my dick middle finger GIF

Yep, this. It was probably only the second time ever during a game I’ve shouted out loud “Harrryyy!” during a game, the first time being last week. Bloke’s doing a few things way above and beyond vanilla now (whilst doing the important vanilla stuff consistently) and I’m totally here for cosmopolitan Harry.
He's beginning to believe, Harry is becoming beige......

Think that Hardwick kid has a future in the backline. Like the cut of his jib.

I’m sorry but butler and Harry Morrison VFL standard? Tell me you don’t know much about football without telling me you don’t know much about football.
Harry's only played 116 games, might need another 100 to see if he can make it.......

Agreed, maybe CJ and Scrim could share a wing and HBF in game.
Don't mind this as an idea, they have differing skill sets that would work well when combined together across those positions.

We have been crying out for a tall, marking winger ever since Ricky Henderson retired and Scrimmers could be this.

Many people are lauding Impey (which they should). He was our best tonight along with Weddle.

However, I reckon our defensive unit as a whole deserves a lot of credit. Their talls (which they consider a strength) barely had a touch last night. The smalls were fantastic as well,

If it weren’t for our defenders we would’ve been 10 goals down at half time. They were absolutely peppered in the first half and put the team on their backs up to the main break.

Phenomenal effort to keep them to their lowest score for the year (correct me if I’m wrong).

The other tricky thing is what do we do with Sic? If he goes forward, can we run with Chol, Lewis/Dear, Gunston and Sic all in the forward line? Allowing Moore and Watson are fixtures there, where would that leave Ginni and CMac? I'd hate to see us play without Gunners because he's been so good this year and Chol has been excellent. It's like the issues we have had with the backline will now be issues we are creating in the forward line.

Defenders really stepped up. Scoring shots were huge.l, there was a lot of rushed shots due to defenders pressure though

I'm incredibly happy today.
Was that ugly...yes
Unconvincing....maybe?
Really poor first half...definitely!

But we never gave up, nothing went right for so long but we never wilted, could have easily just packed it in. Thats the takeaway for me.

Needed to win and we did, that's all that matters.

We defeated two highly rated teams. Perhaps they're a little overhyped as opposition but we looked like we were in a deep hole a fortnight ago.

Great coaching and leadership from the group to pull it out of the fire and go into the bye with a couple of wins.

Dunstall only has one comment:

Teams have to make the most of their opportunities or it will come back to bite them.

He goes on about this EVERY SINGLE GAME

He also has “Hawks lucky to get away with that” and “Hawks get a lucky free kick”

There’s trying not to be biased toward your old team, and then there’s Jason Dunstall.

I really hope we do some goal line defending work at training over the bye.

It's shit me up the walls all year how we fail to kill the ball in the goal square.

We got away with a few yesterday.
