I don't think Tex would choose 300 over a flag. I do think Tex would choose 300 over a finals also-ran which is the best we can hope for this year.

If we were in 2017 form then Tex may be having a man conversation with himself. But we're not, and he's not. He knows he's not costing us a flag this year. Once (if) finals are locked in, we'll rest him for either WC in Perth or NM in Melbourne so that he can play his 300th in a losing Elimination Final.
If we get that Elim Final at home we arent losing it

No doubt, Tex is as selfless as Sloane. It’s all about him. And that’s ok, it’s perfectly normal, I’d be no different. But he doesn’t bleed red, blue and yellow, he bleeds Tex Walker. Tex would choose 300 for him over a flag for the club, it’s that simple.l
Watching him play now is rather sad. Totally selfish around goals and no composure whatsoever. When it goes, it all goes at once. Scott Thompson vibes.

When the body goes the composure is the first casualty. If we were a football club hell bent on wining a flag, we’d design a plan that has him fit and firing for September. Instead we’ll be watching him crawl to 300 and not fire a shot come finals. That’s just our DNA.

The club need to forget about the 300 games & manage him when conditions suit us to be tall or we need to manage the likes of Fog, like we should have last Friday given he was unwell.

Club should come 1st over player.

Of course he wants to play, he thinks he can contribute, and he’ll keep putting his hand up, but cmon. he’s the best clubman we’ve had in years, maybe ever. If offered that (completely unrealistic, hypothetical) choice he’d take the flag.
Tex isn't the problem. The problem is Nicks who will keep playing a player that's cooked as he scared to upset Roo. Do you think Chris Scott or Damien Hardwick would be dictated too?

Senior player feelings are much more important than the club or overall success of the playing group.

He’s not a “clubman” if he continues to prioritise his 300 over the performance of the group. To be a “clubman” there needs to be overt evidence of putting the club ahead of self. Tex could be doing that right now, but he’s not. Reality is that there’s very few that would. Otten and Pods both removed themselves from selection, but they’re the outliers. Tex would happily hamstring overall success to get his milestone. And that’s just how the overwhelming majority operate.

I posted a few weeks ago that I’d be happy extending him so that 300 didn’t come at the cost of the rest of the playing group. I’d still do that.

Yeah, I would prefer to play Tex next season if we managed him with plenty of games off both this year & next.

Would be best for all.

Would also get him development coaching.

It’s not Nix, it’s an entire club problem. Do you not remember Roo suiting up for an elimination final and costing us the game?

Here we disagree. I don’t t want anyone influenced by Neil Craig anywhere near influencing players. Last year I heard Murphy on radio saying he was valuable because of his leadership, NVB did the same in his final year. It’s stupidity and we need to separate ourselves from the Neil Craig philosophy.

Not sure what that had to do with my post?

Leadership is only useful for players who are capable at AFL level.

Murphy is not AFL standard, so any leadership skill are irrelevant... except to help out the younger player in the SANFL... which we could also achieve my making him a development coach if his leadership is so awesome... which is have my doubts... as ANB who has replaced him has provided plenty more!

After watching a replay of the SANFL game, I wouldn’t be picking Edwards based on anything he did against Centrals. He just wasn’t good and honestly, the effort levels were pretty dire.

I also wouldn’t be picking Draper who just looks way, way off it at the moment. Yes he’s got a big future. He wasn’t in the best 15 players on the field in a SANFL game so he clearly needs to work on undoing some of the damage that VB and Nicks do to 18 year old midfielders when they join our club.

Dowling, Taylor, Nankervis and Jones really stood out for me as the 4 who looked most deserving of a callup. Interestingly, Nank is spending time up forward which to me smells pretty strongly of grooming him to take Tex’s role in a more agile forward setup.

Murray was pretty good too and obviously comes back in to the side in the not too distant future, but I’d be giving him another game at SANFL level (which doesn’t exist next weekend), therefore I’m NOT bringing him back for the Richmond game.

McAndrew is a very capable backup ruck, and we won’t lose much at all if ROB goes down injured at some stage by bringing him in.

Burgess was also very solid, but we know that doesn’t translate to the top level.

Because we also already know that Jones is not a difference-maker at AFL level, I’d go with…

Out:
Murphy, Pedlar, Smith, Walker

In:
Peatling, Dowling, Nankervis, Taylor

Sub:
Taylor

Could easily leave Pedlar in as sub.

Hinge is going worse than many realise and needs to lift.

OMG. Neil Craig was 14 years ago. Time to move on.

No mention of Hugh Bond completely clamping one of the SANFL's most dangerous forward in Aiden Grace whilst finding a bit off the pill himself?

Adelaide 36 points 135%

Fremantle v Essendon - Freo win takes them to 36 under 110%
Geelong V Brisbane - Geelong 44 Brisbane 38
Giants v Gold Coast 32 32 - this is a win for us as 1 team will stay on 32 - GC % 123 so Giants 36 GC 32
Bulldogs v Richmond - Dogs win go to 32 plus 127+%

Adelaide stay where they are Bye week

But we dont play until Sunday

Sydney v Bulldogs - I tip Bulldogs 36 points + %
Gold Coast v Melbourne - GC win 36 +% or they go to 40 if they beat GWS
Hawks v North - Hawks win 40 points 115%

We are lucky that Freo play after us

I could be wrong but its more likely we are 7th before we play Richmond

This game worries me, not because I think we will lose, quite the obvious, I think we should win comfortably and as such I worry this will further validate the 3 tall theory with the match committee.

I was astounded that Peds was subbed on the weekend, I know he wasnt prolific but that type of game called for someone like him to stay in the game and help lock the ball inside 50.

Us beating up a young opposition doesnt prove anything and I worry that as Tex gets closer to 300, the decision to drop/rest him potentially gets harder and potentially becomes a story in itself. I would prefer we try a different look up forward and see what happens.
