What 26yo man visits their parents at their home every day though.

Well I wouldn't - but some people are a heck of a lot closer to their parents than I am and I don't judge them for it. Would be pretty cool to be part of a really tight knit clan like that.

One of the saddest posts for some time

No reason to be sad - I have my own family and a great group of friends. Just happen to only have one parent left who I’m not close to. Plenty of way more deserving people of your sympathy. However I never begrudge any player who makes decisions based on being close to their family - good on them I say. Let’s just hope more and more gun players have families in the SE suburbs of Melbourne.

Fair bit of judgement going on in here...

Obviously I would love to sign him, more than Reid, but I'm not sure whats wrong with choosing your club due to external reasons.

He is part of a whole family of mad dogs fans from west of Melbourne.. I love those stories we've got heaps of them.

It's probably moreso to make things easier on days off, when he gets the chance etc.

An hour drive as opposed to half hour stacks up eventually. So we'll need to convince the guy. He was the runner for his local club last year during Port's bye, he likes being around his mates.

Plus Butters does have a little bit of a different family situation to the normal. Probably more tight.

Does any gun Victorian footballer ever get drafted to an interstate club from the east of the $&&@ing state?! Why do they all come from the other side of Victoria?! If the AFL was serious about equalisation they would start work on addressing that.
Miles Bergman.

From AFL.COM "PORT Adelaide's Zak Butters will put footy over family when deciding his long-term future at season's end. Butters said the pull of his family in Melbourne wouldn't outweigh football factors." So it seems he is seriously considering a move back to Victoria, hopefully the Hawks are at the front of the queue.

Article made it pretty clear it will be next year. Shame as I’d love him in the jumper next year

I suspect Port Adelaide will press Butters to make a decision one way or another prior to this years trade period as it would be in their best interests to trade him out and maximise their asking price of multiple first round picks whereas if they wait until next year they will only receive one compensation pick if he leaves as he would be a restricted free agent.
