As I said, if he really wanted to hurt him, he would have.
This is perhaps the shittest take of them all. He's just a failed thug.

Are you deliberately this out of touch? Are you drinking the entire Punt Rd supply of goon?

Oh yes, the old chestnut "potential to cause injury". They bring that out only when they want to. Every single incident that occurs has the "potential to cause injury". It really is the most ridiculous rule. Either use it ALL the time or NEVER use it.

Another inconsistency and it's those inconsistencies that makes this a poorly run competition from an umpiring and tribunal perspective.

To be fair on the metric this would trigger 2-3. Do you honestly think bar for Tigers fans that would be acceptable? Curtis got 3 for a footy action for goodness sakes. That is why they have this “potential to cause injury”. By referring it, it triggers a 5 match sanction and I do feel that’s appropriate can’t see the AFL pushing for much higher.

You should be thankful it’s 5+ games you don’t have to pick the bloke!

Makes you wonder how he'd be remembered.

For me, he has always been a good key forward. But I don't think you'd have him in the best 20 key forwards during his time in the game, bit of a snake and a bit of a thug.

A great Key Forward with premierships. Not the first guy to leave a struggling side, I mean Nathan Buckley did don’t think many wouldn’t consider Bucks a Pies great.

Thought a strike that was referred triggers 5.
It does. Intentional, high, severe, can be either a 4 week suspension or a tribunal referral if the afl are looking for a longer band. Given it was referred it means they want at least five, and will get it unless the tigers can argue for a reduced grading. Seems unlikely tbh.

If I was Richmond Supporter I'd be hoping they give him life.

Didn't even SNIFF the ball in the first half against Adelaide.
I did more for Richmond that Tommy Lynch did and I was sitting at home playing Nintenda Switch.

What's the opposite of leather poisoning? Leather allergy? Leather repellant?

There we go thought it was 5, and it’s been reported as 5+. Maybe they go for the juggular and go for 6-7. Leaves them a little leeway when Richmond ask for 5, settle in 6 weeks

Only having seen the original tweet, it's probably rather telling how dirty of an act that was when Lynch was getting double teamed by the Adelaide players and none of his teammates came in to help.

2/3 of the side are kids what do you want them to do?

I think you don't realise how coordinated these guys are. If they want to really knock you out, they will. He even said this immediately after the game. He said his action wasn't intended to hurt him and he didn't. Butts literally wasn't even dazed. He looked more surprised than anything else.

The entire side are professional footballers. You back your teammate in and go stand up for him when multiple blokes go after him.

Pretty telling no one came to help even just pull Crows players off of him. They are adults mate, this isn’t the under 12’s, don’t try to make them into adolescents who have no mind of their own.

And get what out of it? A bunch of fines? Is Tommy going to pay? Time and a place for flying the flag. It’s not after your teammate was a thug

Arrh the good bloke defence, “I swear Sir I really didn’t mean it”. Being blind lucky the bloke doesn’t have a busted jaw is luck nothing more or less

Gaff said the same thing, it was an instinctive reaction and he ended up ending Brayshaw's season.
Sorry mate, I don't buy this at all. It's retrospective thinking, not accurate to the event.
Drink the goon all you want, he swung out of frustration without any real thought. He didn't necessarily want to hurt the Butts, but he definitely wasn't thinking "Nah I don't want to hurt him aye, I just want to give myself some space". It was an instinctive reaction borne out of anger and frustration. What would be would be.

I understand that but grabbing Crows players off of him isn’t gonna get them a fine, de-escalation isn’t that. Players get fines when they actually participate in the melee.

The player that was a thug could not do it in the first place

It wouldn't be luck though. If he wanted to injure him he would've extended. It was the whack with the arm that players do pretty often (usually in the midfield) in annoyance where they get them high. They just usually do it with abduction out behind them and up, rather than inwards from behind the player

You don’t swing haymakers if you don’t mean it. Nit buying for one second there wasn’t clear intent, probably didn’t want to clock the bloke but there were other ways to get him off you rather than throw haymakers. Not a surprise he’s rightfully been sent to the tribunal
