That's going to be interesting, just watching the Poms last night. If they maintain Archer's fitness, along with Wood and they probably play Gus Atkinson over Carse, eventhough he looked good in this test. Also along with Stokes, suddenly their bowling looks better to go with their batting.
If our batting can't perform, and l'm not that confident it can, considering the top order issues have been a consistent problem a few years now, these Ashes are going to be hard to win.
England have absolute rubbish in the spinners category, so maybe that where we can get them...

England should avoid picking one altogether. It’s risky given how injury prone those players are but wood, Atkinson, Carse, stokes and archer can all bowl 140+ and root is a better spinner than Bashir anyway, and Carse and Atkinson can both bat. And wood can throw it as well

Well back to the most used drawing board in world cricket. The West Indies top order one. Trying to be England lite didn’t work - given what’s available I suspect trying to copy South Africa might be much more practical and base out cricket off our bowling, try and find one, just a single one, dependable batsman, and half a dozen guys that can chip in enough around him to give the bowlers some hope

Just going back to that Starc first over, he’s already taken the 2 wickets of Campbell & Anderson & Brandon King comes out and decides to try to play the biggest booming off-drive off his first ball 😂 I mean even amongst the carnage that stands out as an absolute crazy decision and bit of play.

Now it’s just back to sounding condescending by continually saying how sad it is to see the decline of the West Indies ect.

Imagine if there was a world where they had a pace bowling quartet of; Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales and Jofra Archer, it would actually almost rival what they had back in the day… sad I suppose.

Wood and Archer will probably be rotated each test. They will have Woakes in the wings, eventhough he's less than ordinary here in Australia. They may use Bethell as the spinning all rounder...

Disappointing finish to a series that showed, with the ball, the West Indies can match it with the best. Hopefully they can find a couple good batsman and not waste this chance to return to the top.

Losing a test match where 3 players passed 30 by 180 runs is like losing by 900.

Australia, absolute shamozzle, dominant

Australia once lost a test match by 8 wickets where they bowled the opposition out for 96 after making almost 300 themselves. Their current captain was in the touring party and so was the offspinner who was left out of this match. It happens.

Yeah I think it would be a big risk playing both of them together especially given the risk associated with stokes’ body as well - if one of them breaks down and then he gets a niggle it leaves them in a bad spot. Still, you need to take risks to beat Australia in Australia so I’m interested to see what they decide to so

This. It really doesn’t take a lot, if you have a good attack. It’s much harder the other way around.

Throw darts and find what will stick. This group, plus Imlach that is in the squad and has done pretty well domestically, Andrew, Athanaze Id imagine would get another look in as would Kavem Hodge, and probably Da Silva at some stage but don’t just limit themselves to what they’ve got. There will be someone that can do the job and once they start posting 250-350 scores they will win matches as often as not if they keep bowling the way they are.

1-2 home tests a season on a relatively easy batting pitch would be lovely
Maybe the groundskeepers don’t know how to prepare batter friendly pitches?
Cleaning up west indies tail is probably misleading
Tail not much different to their top order this innings.

Of course I don’t think a Boland v Lyon debate is going to gain much traction at all heading into the Ashes, but should it? With the tracks in Aus these days, Boland’s record & Lyon losing potency on any non-Subcontinent tracks it maybe should be weighed up.
Nope.

In the last Ashes series - on a non-subcontinental pitch - Lyon picked up 8 wickets before getting injured. They tried to go after him in Edgebaston; the grounds here aren't soccer grounds, so don't have the square shape and compromised square boundaries.

They'll try and go after him again, where the Indians - who, funnily enough, is the only opposition Lyon has played against since - were canny enough to try and milk him when he bowled.

I’m in utter disbelief at that scorecard. So much happened so quickly.

An Alzarri fifer, Starc 400, 3 in the first over, fastest fifer. And then a hat trick from Scotty B?

All while I was asleep and missed every moment?

2 questions sorry:

Was Inglis a concussion sub, or sub fielder? I.e. does it count as a test match played for him?

How stiff are you to take a hat trick, and probably not get to keep the ball? 6-9 and 400th wicket ...

Going by the pitch and the batting, Green's 42 would be like a double hundred.

Must admit, he had done well in the no.3 spot the last 3 innings. West Indies might struggle with the bat but the Joseph's are damn good with the ball. Together with Seales it must've been tough to play them on these tracks.

All these tracks did was shatter a young Konstas. Thought it was the right series to try in in. Was the wrong series completely in hindsight. Now his brain is completely muddled.

It’s hard to say, based on the four day scores over a long period the bowlers always get a bit of help and the tests have been that way for a while too. I don’t know if that’s by design or not.

It would maybe be nice to see the venues back the bowlers a bit to be able to get the job done no matter what and prepare some pitches that help the struggling batsmen because we obviously need it. Just learning how to construct an innings at test level would help
