Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Lot of leaps there, when the simpler explanation is much more likely - Wright consider Voss is the right person.
Or you can leap even further into tin-foil hat territory and the board overruled Wright's recommendation 😛

Surely not serious?

Most believe this is only going to be at most a one year gig for Voss. What will take for him to get a contract extension next year. Show some sign of improvement from this year, top 8, 4, premiership or I don’t care what he achieves, I just want him out?
This it the thing isn't it, what are we expecting to achieve next year? Personally I am expecting bottom 6 with what I can see now, unless I see some crazy good signs in the off-season.

Just me or since that board meeting the bluemours really dried up? Maybe they were intent on shutting down leaks
or maybe a vast majority were just made up thought bubbles by less than respectable members. There is only around 6 or 7 posters in that thread that have consistently shown to have legitimate knowledge

I was more meaning the more likely ITKs, even C4 admitted his contact won't be any use anymore.

The random less than believable stuff shared by rookies/newbies have always been there but you just take it with a grain of salt.

For me - I'll reserve final judgement until after the player movement period. See who goes, who comes in.

My gut feel is that finals would be a goal, but not necessarily an expectation. If we're still in the mix come this time next season (a few rounds to go) I think the club would be somewhat satisfied. If we make finals, awesome, consider that a bonus and try to ruin someone else's September. If we're out of the hunt by R18 and sitting in or on the edge of the bottom 6, then I think we'd be disappointed.

This all goes out the window if we trade a key player in addition to losing TDK and JSOS, and don't bring in any mature Best 22 types to replace them. In other words - if we kick off a mini rebuild, I think the bar will be set a bit lower.

More fence-sitting/caveat-making....we may not even put a focus on ladder position next year. It may be solely based on "method". Develop a new gameplan, take a new approach to recruitment and selection, take a more conservative approach to player management (aka resting Cripps before he turns into a potato). It might be that method is king, and we trust that changing the method could do anything to ladder position (we could improve and shoot right up, or it could be something that will take a year or two before players really absorb it), and so ladder position is irrelevant during a transition period.

That's your prerogative. Just chalk him up as another in a long line of bad presidents. If he proves you wrong then he proves you wrong and he helps turn the club around. I find that position to be understandable but also win-win. Either you're right or the club comes good

What I do know is that Wright is a good football person with a lot of runs on the board. Not as CEO but has been a massive part of building premierships at multiple clubs. From that perspective unless you buy into the crackpot tin foil theory of "every outsider who comes from <insert club(s> is here to sabotage us" is a very good thing.
I take your point and hope I am wrong...Priestley does not give.me confidence

I’m asking myself which assistants would want to come on board with a coach that has 1 year left on his contract, doesn’t sound like any stability to me at all.
If you really want someone as offer them a good enough deal it would be hard to say No.
Assistants don't get big money or have much security so the right offer to the right person should get a good hearing.

I would sell it as a win win situation for said assistant/senior assistant. I want Hickmott for that role, so I’d sell it as a real opportunity to enhance your coaching reputation if you’re the one who helps the turn around.

If it doesn’t work, you have the opportunity to take over from Vossy and your first senior coaching role.

Worth noting that there is the risk with this approach that you're bringing in an assistant who then has a vested interest in "it not working".

If they reckon they know how to fix it, they're better off letting Voss cop the boot, then implementing their changes the year after when they take the reins.

Not to say that's what every assistant in that position would do - just that some of the more calculating ones might see it that way.

If I was a Hawthorn assistant coach I'd be hesitant to leave until they've won a flag and the confidence in them doing that would be high. History over the last 50 years tells us this.

I'd only leave the Hawks if I were them for the top job somewhere else rather than a parallel move.

So as much as I love our guys there and believe they'd be qualified hires it's very fanciful to me

Could be waiting a while - their leading goal kicker is 34

I tend to think it will be more vibe based (metrics like developing younger guys, seeing a discernible way of playing, and sticking with guys we trust will be there for the long haul )than performance based. Barring something unforeseen, there is no premiership contending with the current side.

From the outside looking in, if we do the above and barring Vossy simultaneously pissing off Wrighty, the board, the rest of the footy department and the players, he will probably get a 2-3 year deal some time next season.

Sure but Calsher Dear has played 6 games, Mitch Lewis has just come back from his knee and played 4 games, have a variety of other avenues to goal.

They have a demonstrable ability to go out and getting the player(s) they need to win.

The difference to them winning and losing a premiership won't be Jack Gunston (unless they win it this year)

53 goals is a lot to replace and they have a number of key players around 30 - their window isn't that large and they are still behind the likes of the Crows and Lions
