I don’t think an important part of Carey’s career was at Adelaide.

It’s more complicated with Dangerfield, Betts and Darren Jarman.

I think Thompson played enough of his career at Adelaide that it doesn’t matter that he once played for someone else. The same might also apply to Dawson and Rankine if they stick around.

One of these is not like the others
3x Premiership Captain.

If I was a Hawks supporter,
I would rate Hodge higher than some of players who clearly had more natural individual talent.

Now that Cotch has retired it makes me realize just how impactful he was.

Fair enough. I would probably have either Rance or Richo in there but I get your rationale.
Rance in particular is very underrated, he was a one man defensive maniac in 2014-16 before the gameplan became more selfless and cohesive. There were games where he would regularly be accountable for 2 or 3 players (and beat them). Very good in the 2017 GF too, set the tone physically

Scarlett
Ablett
Ablett
Selwood
Enright

AFL-era
Ablett Snr
Ablett Jnr
Garry Hocking
Joel Selwood
Matthew Scarlett
Dangerfield does not get anything like the love/respect he deserves among our fan base at times.

(To put my money where my mouth is: Ablett, Ablett, Danger, Scarlett, Selwood).

Richo was a more special player individually than Cotch, I don't think anyone would ever deny that.
I am not sure Dustin Martin would have been the player he would have eventually come if he didn't meet Cotchin.
Rance one would be hard to put him in the top 5 of all time probably modern times yes but I had to be respectful to past players. I wasn't even born when KB, Dyer & Hart played but am just going off highlights & how rated they are by historians of the club and you can't just put modern players in it.

Enright is a top 5 player at Geelong, and that's a hill I will die on. His contemporaries are Bruce Doull and no one else.

Would you believe I have a spreadsheet for this??

So for the Doig Medal (Freo's B&F), if you just take top 5 who have won you get:

1st - Pav (6x)
=2nd - Fyfe & Bell (3x)
=4th - Sandilands, Serong & Neale (2x)

If you go for top 3 finishes (1st = 3 ponts, 2nd = 2 points etc) you get

1st - Pav (24 points)
2nd - Fyfe (15 points)
3rd - Bell (13 points)
4th - Sandi (12 points)
5th - Mundy (11 points)

Top 5 finishes (1st = 5 points...)?

1st - Pav (50 points)
2nd - Fyfe (31 points)
=3rd - Mundy & Bell (29 points)
5th - Sandi (22 points)

And top 10 finishes (1st = 10 points...)?

1st - Pav (117 points)
2nd - Mundy (98 points)
3rd - Fyfe - (75 points)
4th - Bell (64 points)
=5th - Sandi & Shane Parker (57 points)

Aggregate those you get:

1st - Pav
2nd - Fyfe
3rd - Bell
4th - Mundy
5th - Sandi

Yep. I knew he had talent. Then you guys got him back again lol.
It was the perfect circle. Started at South Freo, then to Freo, then to North, then back to Freo, then back to South Freo.

Top 5 could be sliced and diced a bunch of ways. Hard to pick Pies as we have a tradition of teamwork over individuality.

I'll say it mixing quality with quantity, which immediately gives me (for the Pies I've seen)

Buckley
Pendlebury
Peter Daicos
Tony Shaw
Scott Burns.

Daicos inconsistent, but his best was the best. Shaw our best leader, Burns next for leadership. All incredibly consistent apart from Daics, and all were diamonds under pressure.

Honourable mentions Brereton Osborne Pert, all champions but not with us.

And the joker Phil Carman, I saw very little of him. Only played a couple of great seasons but many fine football judges say his best was better than Abletts. Of course you tell the kids these days that ...

Cousins
Peter Matera
Judd
Kennedy
Cox

Marcus Bontempelli
EJ Whitten
Chris Grant
Doug Hawkins
Brad Johnson

Apologies to Gary Dempsey, Kelvin Templeton, and John Schultz.
