I was at the Eagles W game tonight through work as a sponsor thing, and I was next to Harley and Oscar Allen. Most of the men’s side were there.

Harley’s actions and behaviour don’t strike me as that of a dude who is about to want out.

Purely anecdotal. I have no proof other than vibes and what I saw.

Oscar Allen was there too… he was a little subdued but I did see him get keen when the girls got going.

Proof of encounter below.

Also a good country boy, shorts and a puffy jacket.

We have lots of issues. A competent ruck that doesn't see the opposition ruckman be best on ground each week coupled with some better clearance mids would resolve a fair few issues. We know we can get clearance mids through the draft, and through development of our kids. We don't have a ruck proposect, other than Archer Reid, who has never been a ruck. That's why we need to find one unless we put all our eggs in the Archer Reid bucket that may or may not come to fruition in four years time.

Brisbane also had a midfield of Lachie Neale, Will Ashcroft, Josh Dunkley, Jarrod Berry, Cam Rayner, Zac Bailey.
Speaking of the Brisbane midfield ...

With Levi Ashcroft and Dan Annable added to that list, plus McCluggage and maybe Fletcher on the wing, how do we think Sam Marshall is feeling about his AFL future?

Great young player but they won’t let him go. Neale is a chance but tough pill to swallow when last two years they have a flag and another GF and add Marshall, Ashcroft x 2, Fletcher and now Annable.

Did you at least make sure Harls was closely observing Ella Roberts?

Those 2 are the corner stone of the REAL Next Generation Academy and the $45 million lab that Don Pyke has built 60 feet beneath MRP.

Once we secure the priority access to our NGA (thanks AFL), the production line of genetic masterpieces will be in full swing.

🤓

If we only get band 2 for Oscar because VFL gon VFL, what do we do?
I don't see that as likely. Brisbane have been in to him for a long time, they're not going to lose him over a few extra bucks

I mean, they could offer a band 2 contract and give us the picks they need themselves for bid matching, or they offer slightly more and make it a whole lot easier for themselves

Its probaly why Ah Chee is being pushed out so they have the cash for Oscar.

Yeah, Brisbane won't trade for him because it means they'd most likely miss out on Annable.

I would not be releasing Ryan unless the deal is weighted in our favour.

During games this year, Liam has been played as the main focal point in attack - with crap results.

Once Shanahan, Waterman and A Reid/J Williams are all in the side, Ryan will be back to his best role.

What is Ryan's best role?

Did anyone watch aflw last night.

What did you notice about stoppages....

Hint, umpires didn't wait for rucks to arrive and threw the ball up immediately.

Along with no sub and 5 on the bench what are consequences next year.

Heres my take
2 rucks to played in every side, with very little time on bench and more time rested forward. One will responsible for 2/3 of stoppages in the centre and back half, the other rested forward for deep forward stoppages. All to ensure one of them makes the ball up. Rotating of course.

The other consequence will be that teams won't be able to rely so heavily on stoppage set plays the way the game has gone now. You won't see as many stoppages with 20 blokes in set positions. Ie more kaos. This will effect teams who rely on stoppage craft as there one wood and will favour ball in motion kaos teams more.

So, how do recruit/draft for this. You need mobile rucks. Do you need gut running gaff types who have the capacity to be at every stoppage or players with speed and movement patterns to get through the kaos.?

Liam Ryan is equal first in our goal kicking, first in our goal assists, and first by a million miles for having the ball kicked over his head while on the lead.

Is Mitch McGovern someone we would go after for cheap? Just seen the AFL.com.au article

Our of contract and not getting picked atm at the Blues

Not sure how keen I'd be tbh but

Mini playing 4D chess having us with no stoppage setups and the rucks tapping to opposition players

I don't mind him, but list spots will be tight as it is. If we had a free spot and he was a delisted free agent, I'd give him a year. Played 17 games this year.

Pass.

He is injury prone and any players that we trade in need to be robust without concerning injury backgrounds.

Just to highlight what we all know (except maybe stallon) that we need to seriously fix our midfield and stoppage work. If we don't draft a clearance mid and try to trade for another one, then I will seriously worry about those in charge of our list.

I don't really care about Ah Chee, Starcevich, McVee and any other flankers, we should be focusing on fixing our stoppage issues first and foremost.

The clearance differential is stark. We are last, but a long long way. Everyone bar Richmond is close enough to breakeven that they aren't getting smashed at the clearance each week.

Last year we were at -4.2, can probably put the drop off down to Yeo being unavailable all year, and Tim Kelly being shit most of the year given they lead our clearances last year.

It puts more onus on KPD and KPD players to share ruck duties. At the very least, you might see three players responsible for ruck duties on game day, one forward, one back and one resting on the bench.

It makes the CDT conversation more interesting though.

100%.

Can’t keep avoiding it or delay it anymore. They have to get aggressive in this area.

Do we care less about the fact we are the worst team in the comp at stoppages? As per the above post by happy mastinator.
