Gather Round tickets snapped up in record time

The AFL is pleased to announce that more than 195,000 Gather Round…Festival of Footy tickets have sold… with five of the nine games sold out, 20,000 more than this time last year.

Member on sale on Tuesday saw a significant uplift in demand for tickets this year, selling more than 100,000 tickets in the first four hours, in comparison to the same amount in 24 hours last year.

This year there are an extra 47,000 tickets on offer for fans with the two Saturday matches being ticketed separately.

Tickets still remain for Collingwood vs Sydney Swans on Friday night, Carlton vs West Coast on Saturday afternoon, Melbourne vs Essendon on Saturday night and a very limited number of restricted view tickets and tickets for the Pepsi Collective for Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn on Sunday evening.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said it was clear Gather Round momentum was not slowly down.

“The demand for tickets this year was significantly higher than the first two Gather Rounds, with more than 195,000 tickets being purchased in the first two days,” said Mr Dillon.

“A ticket to the matches at the Barossa Park was always going to be one of the hottest tickets in town and the fans have certainly illustrated that by selling out both matches so quickly.”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Gather Round continues to exceed all expectations.

“We are honoured that so many footy fans from around the country are making the commitment to travel to our beautiful state to experience this event like no other.

“They’ll be truly welcome.

“If you haven’t got a ticket already – get in quick!”

Tickets for the remaining matches can be found here.

21,207 for Dogs vs Eagles

Was always going to happen on that slot.
Dogs have never reached 20,000 on any of their Sunday evening fixtures against an interstate crowd before all but one of these previous games the crowds in the 16k-18k range.

It's a very decent crowd.

After Round 23 (excluding Gather Round).

HOME CROWDS
Club (# of home games played) = Total (Average)
  • Western Bulldogs (10) = 360,332 (36,033)
  • Geelong (11) = 389,740 (35,431)
So provided the Bulldogs get 29,409 people vs. Fremantle next week (you think that they will given that it's a very straightforward winner plays finals implications), they will have gotten more fans to their home games than Geelong this season.

AFLW Rd 1

8,042 at Princes Park, Carlton vs Collingwood
1,453 at Lathlain Park, West Coast vs Gold Coast
4,126 at North Sydney Oval, Sydney vs Richmond
TBC at Kardinia Park, Geelong vs North Melbourne
TBC at Manuka Oval, GWS vs Essendon
3,278 at Whitten Oval, Bulldogs vs Melbourne
4,209 at Springfield Oval, Brisbane vs Hawthorn
TBC at Moorabbin Oval, St Kilda vs Adelaide
2,873 at Alberton Oval, Port Adelaide vs Fremantle

Do your own research. AFL Tables has all the crowd figures. Dragons crowds are significantly lower than what they were 1960 - 80. Every other club is significantly higher.
Cute. What really matters in the NRL is TV viewership, more so than attendance.

I think if there's one thing that unites everyone on this thread about attendances for the 2025 AFL season it's that we definitely need more discussion about memberships and tv audience that resulted from a merger that occurred in the NRL a quarter of a century ago.

So according the Adelaide Oval CEO, the capacity at Adelaide oval for Football is 55,000. Will see what that will be with Fox footy taking a portion of the hill during the finals.

All in all, tickets selling for $15 now, in terms of women’s sport those are very solid crowds all round

Those teams who have or are still able to set a new club total H&A season record this year:

Brisbane and Freo should both easily get there while GWS and Collingwood are line ball and GC (who have 2 games left) need a strong turnout from Port fans farewelling Hinkley and Boak to get theirs.

Both WB and Collingwood should easily get there to join Hawthorn.

Cute? Good one.

You can’t measure clubs by TV ratings. Crowds and memberships are still the best way. The numbers confirm that St George for a long time was THE biggest club, and it is now mid range at best.

GWS, Gold Coast and Collingwood should all get there. I doubt Port will get any less than they did against the Dockers (it’s Boak’s final game) and the final game against the Dons will decide top 4 for them. Thats the biggest game in their history.

As for the Pies, if Hawthorn can get 54,000 on a miserable afternoon, the Pies must surely be good for mid 60,000’s on a Friday Night?

It will be difficult for the Hawks to top that whilst they play 4 games at York Park (capacity will drop to 12,000). If they ever brought those games back to Melbourne, they’d average 50,000 plus one day…

Didn’t the Giants want to sell a game to the MCG. The Tigers should sell a home game to the SCG and the Giants could buy it back and play it at the MCG. That way the Tigers get an extra MCG game and one less Marvel game. Simples

That’s dam smart!
I like it.

Surprised they are looking north instead of South. It’s ambitious. 12-15K at the SCG will look pretty average.

I’m always up for a weekend away, but do find the Easter weekend counter intuitive with other family things on.

It works in Brisbane with most tickets sold to home supporters and is a great way to kick off a long weekend.

I’m not sure how many are actually Collingwood supporters go up for the weekend vs how many are local Collingwood supporters.

As cool as it would be for Richmond to sell a game, and the positives to allowing GWS an extra game in Sydney during Easter when they don’t have access to their ground, who is paying for it?

I just don’t foresee the NSW state government or Sydney local government paying for it like what occurs in other localities.

The governments pay for it because you can guarantee several thousand tourists that would otherwise not come?

Precisely

It’s the same bucket that the Tassie money comes from. So it comes down to what’s better for Richmond and who will cough up more. The Tasmanian tourism board or Destination NSW.

Richmond need money to finish the punt road redevelopment, so it's easier for them to sell their games than the other way around

The $85 million we have (Stage 1 has started) and will be completed by 2027. It's the final 25 million, which is stage 2 and likely for 2028.

We have 44 mill the bank and we'll use some of that. If we make a few million, it's money for jam. We are only replacing our Marvel game.

This should tell you more about the whole development and costs.

Would rather see Richmond sell games to Darwin and see GC play all their home games on the Gold Coast.
Why would they do that though when there are far better options elsewhere. It’s similar to the Hawks with Cairns. Unless you are cash strapped it absolutely ruins your season — it screws around with conditioning, and there is bugger all fan and membership development. There is no value in developing player pathways because the AFL will probably scrap that in due course too.

The SCG, Brisbane and Tasmania are far better options for the Vic clubs who all have major support bases in those centres, can play on proper grounds with much less travel miles. The VFL clubs shouldn’t have to pick up the slack because the Suns (who are still getting propped up massively by the AFL) are getting second thoughts on Darwin…

Saturday afternoons are better for crowds than Friday nights, and Hawthorn hadn’t lost 5 of their last 6 games.

We should still get 60k, but did you know that outside of public holidays Melbourne has only 5 crowds in the AFL era that have reached 65k?

Are Saturday afternoons really better than Friday nights for crowds? Thought they would draw in similar numbers.
