Forgive me in advance if it has been discussed already, presuming (in all likelyhood) TDK leaves, we get 1st round compensation. Fine. Obvious. What would Jack Silvagni net us in return if he did the same?
Probably a 2nd round pick.

It's a formula based on $ and length of contract. If rumours are to be believed, 4 yrs and $700k or so would be around band 2. Best case scenario it's end of first round, but more likely band 2 so another 2nd round pick.

100%, and most of the posters chucking their toys out of the cot would jump ship from their current employers for a $25k salary bump
Not to mention hypocritical. Very few would bat an eyelid if Corey Durds, for example, were to take a contract elsewhere.

It’s very much a case of fans wanting to have their cake and eat it too.

There’s no care for players sticking around for the jumper, there is only care for good players sticking around for the jumper!

Personally i dont mind we lost both TDK and JSOS, they are extremley solid players but we have had 30 years of absolute misery. Trying the same shit every year expecting different results.

Collingwood lost grundy and went on to win a flag. Be thankful the club are taking some steps to change things.

(my glass half full opinion)

St Kilda have been treated like the make a wish kid all year by the media. It’s like they feel sorry for them that their numerous attempts to attract other players failed dismally.

So good for footy when NAS re-signs they say blah blah.

Yet when De Koning wants to leave that it’s all well and good, St kilda can enjoy him.

Nothing been said about De Koning’s piss weak efforts since about round 8. Apparently the Saints just need to get the best out of him.

Then apparently we need to trade all of our good players.

It’s laughable.

Now it’s a Carlton player signing for St Kilda as a free agent. Carlton sells clicks.

Any time St Kilda have tried to sign a free agent in past, it’s been radio silence from the media. They simply haven’t cared.

George Wardlaw and his management have stepped away from negotiations with North.

Not happy with the medical department but loves Clarkson.

Could be gettable, would we take the risk?
Really concerning concussion history to go with his serious hamstring problems. Love the player when he's up and running but don't think it would be wise.

I’m sad to see TDK go - it’s a bit like being rejected by your girlfriend.

However, given the money involved, every fibre in my being tells me it’s the right decision by Carlton and GW to let him go. Get the picks and salary cap space and onwards and upwards!!
Bit like seeing your girlfriend run off to couple up with Jeff Bezos - yeah it sucks and I think she'll be miserable but at the end of the day I get it 🤷

Seems TDK is definitely gone. He was a fan favourite amongst the faithfully.
He will be missed but the money was too great to leave on the table for a young fella.
Im happy to see HOK flourish for years to come. Gone are the days of the lumbering big/heavy ruckman. Even more so now with the talk of this new "last touch" rule possibly coming in next season, will cut out alot of the boundary throw ins.

Get Skull O'Keefe on the phone now! haha! The reunion we all would love!

Surely he isn't going anywhere, but we should be asking the question if true.

Love his endeavour and attack on the footy, but the reality is the last thing we need is another inside mid with questionable disposal. Pretty small tank too, generally only plays 60-70% game time.

George looks a great young player, certainly one fans would easily fall in love with.

But... hear me out... isn't he also an injury-prone inside midfielder?

Which part of our fatally-flawed list does he fix? Isn't going after such things exactly what's got us into this no man's land situation? We consistently over-value some things (sensible haircuts, nice guys, blue collar, toughness, aerobic fitness) and under-value others (speed, skill, flare, flexibility).

I think George will likely be an excellent league player if he can stay on the park, but is he who we should be spending our very limited capital on? I think definitely not.

He's a genuine risk of being medically retired due to concussions. Hard pass.

It's last disposal, so rushed or paddled balls will still be thrown in.

It's a solve for most deliberate calls, shouldn't impact the number that much.
Source? His dad played for the Dogs, Sam supported Carlton.

Don't blame tdk for going, it would be hard to say no to that sort of cash difference. It's pretty clear he loves the club and doesn't want to leave. Hope it doesn't work out badly for him. We should get fellow tom of the boyd variety to have a chat with TDK. He went to a much better environment than TDK is going and the contract broke him.
I get it and that is true to a certain extent, BUT although $500k per year extra is a lot of money to say no to, its not like 1.2mil is ‘Living in Poverty’.

Love George but he'd cost Pick 9. Has speed, leadership and would love the big games. Similar to Zac Butters but a bit cheaper.

Big gamble injury-wise but if he hit his potential, huge win.

North might be pushing him out (or Wardlaw edging to leave) due to the Windhager offer - he'd be taking that spot.

Tom was a Carlton supporter but idolised Nick Riewoldt

De Koning would ultimately be handed the No.12 guernsey at his new club, which was his old club: he supported Carlton as a kid before his childhood hero Nick Riewoldt – whose number he would wear at Ikon Park - swung him to the team from Moorabbin.
