Agree with a lot of the gbu …

BUT putting aside the horrific umpiring and commentary:

The ugliest was the camera work / choices.

Honestly the worst thing I have watched for a long while.

Vomit inducing pans, too close close-ups, horrible angles from too far away. It was one of the least enjoyable telecasts of anything I have ever seen.

It really looked like we wanted to play bruise free footy in the Centre. If we won the ball, great we could clear it out. But never looked to put excessive pressure at the contest.

We're going to need better umpires for finals or they'll march the opposition into the square for set shot free kicks.

Nice for Dowling and Draper to get a crack. Looks like Draper needs to adjust to the speed of the game.

Good - everyone did a little bit. no injuries
Bad - Smith had more effective disposals in two minutes than Draper did in three quarters. Bond for the first time looked a liability. Good time for Max to be back
Ugly - getting the work experience umpires
After Collingwoods bleating about the umpires last week we were always going to get a raw deal this week. It’s the way the AFL works.

Nah, it’s just wild how quickly things changed.

Obviously the rankine thing accelerated it but it was happening before that.

The attitude from the media annoys me though. It’s been unprofessional.

Commentators have been loving jumping on the AFL bad umping/decisions as soon as we challenge the AFL though we are bad guys give me a break!!!!!

From the Game Day thread:
We've got pretty much what we've asked for today. Bruise free football and probably a comfortable win.
Yep and Minor Premiers.

18 wins - a club record - 140% and a total combined losing margin of 51 points, which is testament to our defence. A great minor round, and one I certainly didn't expect.

Now the real stuff starts. It's all before us. We enter the finals on 9 consecutive wins, but with a spread of players not in good form. It does feel strange.
All true, in spite of which I feel (oddly) very flat. It's not just lingering PTSD from 2020-2024 either.
Very hard to celebrate any of the above, because:
--- if we go from 37 points up to 13 up with 10 minutes to play in a QF or PF, we're toast. NM were not good enough to go on with it, but Brisbane, Geelong, Collingwood, Hawthorn might well be.
--- it's clear that Draper was overawed and underdone; not ready for AFL, but at least we know now (he will be a gun).
--- we miss Rankine's spark, badly.

I wanna be happy; I really do.
15th to first is a remarkable achievement which I never expected and for which I owe Nicks/Assistants a big apology and a mighty well done. No doubt Nicks will be named Coach of the Year.
BUT ...
while we did enough to win today against a weak, 16th-placed side, it wasn't enough to get me excited, or convince me we can go on with it :sadv1: .
I'd love to be wrong.

How’s the commentator’s radio silence when North get three gifted goals in succession. Peatling then gets a 50m penalty that was actually there, and they’re crying.
Yeah basically "they shouldn't have said stand". But they did and they didn't ****ing stand. It's a free kick and has been for years

Just been shaking my head all season how we continue to get SMASHED in clearances and continue to win.

Can’t do this in finals and expect to win. Serious question to this board, WHY THE HELL ARE WE SO BAD AT CLEARANCES?!
Do they matter?

A lot of successful sides have lost clearances.

Collingwood, GWS and Hawthorn are near the bottom of the table for clearances. Theres more to the game now than just winning clearances. We are actually 5th, with brisbane, GC, Kangaroos and Bulldogs above us.... Doesn't mean much now.

Draper should've played another half a dozen games this year to find his feet.

Doesn't make any sense to bring him in now.
Playing games while flailing is a way to drive home that you are not up to AFL pace and destroy confidence.

He'll get there. Glad he got a shot, but looked better in previous games. A nice sighter for next year. We are here to develop players for the long term. Not humour supporters by playing shiny new toys just coz.

Come on man, we've just beaten Hawthorn and Collingwood as well in the last few weeks, todays game was about getting through it with no injuries. People need to chill out.

Bad - Smith had more effective disposals in two minutes than Draper did in three quarters.
Is that right? Wow.
Looks like Draper needs another pre-Season and to muscle up a bit, but I'm not surprised he was overawed today.
I was very disappointed to see Keays ignore him in a decent position in the third.
Bond for the first time looked a liability. Good time for Max to be back
I recall seeing Bond stick a few tackles without being obviously good.
Will they bring MM in straight away without a game in the SANFL (or can he play there next weekend and be cherry ripe)?).
Ugly - getting the work experience umpires
I was too upset to see the Crows walk through the game to get mad at the Umps but many throws and htb not called. They were also very tough on the STAND rule.
Bad Umpiring all around I thought.

Not too many wings who are play the position as contested mark outlets/targets

The fact Curtin can do things other wingers can't doesn't mean we created a new position.

He just plays the position differently. There's a difference.
