I personally would delist kmf but they wont do that after 1 year.
No way. Has a booming kick.
Worthy of further exploration at least.

What's the plan for Worpel, he comes in and is 4th best mid behind Atkins and that's not including Manna/Bowes, which would make him 5th best, so if one of Ted, Clark or Knevitt steps up, is he on the chopping block? Would seriously prefer to give Ted or Knevitt a string of games, we sometimes give the kids limited minutes in multiple positions they don't always play on top having them in and out which would be frustrating for them both Knevitt and Ted have both had nearlyish games. Would prefer to back them in.

You can't judge Worpel's output for Geelong purely on how he's played at Hawthorn.
He may have an entirely new role at the Cats, no use making assumptions.

Agreed.

Charlie seems like a good bloke and a brilliant player at his best, but he had his chance to come here - this is the bed he’s made now unfortunately.

If he were four years younger you’d consider it, but with his age, injury history, Neale’s rise into a borderline star (with improvement to come) and Carlton’s likely demand for multiple firsts and/or Neale, Dempsey, O’Sullivan, etc it’s simply not a smart move.

Strange as it may sound given the difference in talent, I’d be more confident of a flag next year with Marshall and Worpel as additions than with Curnow.

With our gameplan and forward line depth, we’ll score at will regardless. Curnow doesn’t add goals, he just redistributes them - 30 off Cameron, 15 off Neale, a few off the smalls.

You're giving up a lot to strengthen a strength, it's like our version of what the Dogs are doing with Butters. There's only a binary amount of ball to actually go around.

Marshall, on the other hand, finally gives us the ruck we’ve craved since Ottens, while Worpel adds contested and defensive support through the midfield both without burning a hole in our pockets, and keeping our options open for players down the line.
Couldn’t agree more.

We’re already the 2nd highest scoring team in the comp. We have much bigger and more “needle-moving” needs than a star key forward with bad knees.

Heard a few days ago from a pretty reliable source that Charlie Curnow is keen to come to Geelong.

Apparently he actually did a medical at Geelong and his knees are shot.

That's all I heard.
I personally can't see a trade being done. His contracted till 2029. Blues will hold him to his Contract

I know most of the Sheil talk is in jest, but we are seriously tight for list spots. In Scenario 1 below, I don’t know who else we delist? And for the sake of this exercise, I’ll say Clohesy is re-rookied or traded/delisted.

Scenario 1) No Marshall trade and keep Stanley

Out : Duncan, Wiltshire, Guthrie, Bews (to Rookie?), ????
In : Worpel, Mullin (from Rookie), R1, R2, R3

Scenario 2) Marshal trade for R1

Out : Duncan, Wiltshire, Guthrie, Bews (to Rookie?), Stanley
In : Worpel, Mullin (from Rookie), Marshall, R2, R3
Pretty sure Mullin and Clohesy being elevated reduce the number of draftees you need to take on. But regardless, Shiel will be retiring i expect

Spot on Lad... And people are looking on how his playing this season, and yes his not playing the best, as his not playing well as his playing injured

I expect that it would push Smith and/or Holmes further out into space and allow them to be more damaging.

I think of the three listed only one is an inside mid long term with Knevitt more your utility wing type or converted to a defender and Clohesy a front half player. Clark had 3 disposals and 6 disposals in his last 2 games playing 50% game time. I don't see a player that can come in and play midfield.

Worpel's '23 and '24 form is doing a lot of heavy lifting here because his form this year has been very bad. But before the injuries he was a much more damaging player and not really comparable to anything we've been rocking up with, better than Bruhn in my opinion.

But I can appreciate that if he comes in and it's more 2025 form then we dun goofed

I think you're underrating Worpel. He's a better inside mid than what we have at the moment

Mate you've got to at least tell us what you think that new role might be. Do you think the hawks aren't utilising him to his potential? Or you just think CS and the team are able to work some miracles there?

If it's a Jack Martin type 2 year deal for an unwanted player with the hope of getting his body right and having him primed to make a shorter term impact while our younger players develop, I can perhaps see the logic. But 4 years on the basis of a body of work at Hawthorn that is far from impressive, you're gonna have to do more to convince me.

I think we’d take Curnow if we could get him. He and Neale play up forward with Jez doing whatever he wants.

That's why I think Stevens is 50/50. It may be that someone like ivisic goes and Stevens ends up on the rookie list.
We might also shift stanley to the Rookie list-no other club would poach him due to his age.

As a regular draftee, he has a two year contract so cannot be delisted.

However, being a small, he just isn’t finding enough footy to step up. Would take a minor miracle IMO

Just on Worpel - I'm in the camp of Why?
However, those within the four walls (inside an oval) always talk about the fact that they recruit players to the club based on what they are good at and develop/fit them into the team plan accordingly - not focus on their weaknesses
What then would his strengths be considered to be? - and does he provide something we might currently be missing or don't have enough of or might soon be missing

Curnow is one of those players whereas, unless you have two excellent key forwards under 28, if you can get him, you just do it and ask questions about game plan later.

Inside ball winning.

We do not have an exceptional “extractor” player since Selwood, Danger and Guthrie have moved out of the guts.

We don't have standout inside mids.

At the moment we actually have to rely on guys that should be more outside doing a lot of inside work.

Worpel basically will free up Baz and Holmes be outside more.

He's basically an upgrade an what Bruhn was meant to be.

.....and he's from Bannockburn and an ex mad Cats supporter. He won't have any issues fitting in.

What a great opportunity to save one of our own from the Dawks. 🤪

His body of work prior to this year was close to A grade standard? People are only looking at an injury riddled year in 2025 and making a sweeping broad brush assumption.
He isn't a superstar, but how many players are?
Not everyone is gonna be a Harley Reid or Zak Butters.

If you can't trust in Scotty, Mack and Wellsy after all this time with a marathon of runs on the board then idk what to say....surely at this point you'd just trust the experts?

Heard that a son of a Gun... who's almost 32 and is coming outta contract.
Is off to an interstate club next year..
Heading westward not north.
