I know it's easy to think that's an exaggeration etc but realistically, I think you'd find most of the population now agree with the sentiment.

Maybe it's naïve, camera phones have allowed us to see more of it than ever before. But it feels like it's far more escalated than it has been previously.
Seeing these events on video causes a 1000x more impact on people. We are strongly visual creatures and we respond strongly to it. I think just about every older generation has complained about rising crime, feckless youth, that terrible 'modern music' etc. Now the internet enables the information (and disinformation) to spread further and faster, and includes video data which is more impactful.

It's complicated further by changes in society, for example when I grew up in the 60's domestic violence wasn't reported much. Later in the 20th century it was and the rate was horrific, however I don't think it increased, it just wasn't reported in the past. My brother and I were talking last weekend about our neighbours in Aspendale, in 3 out of 8 families we were friends with, the husband was a 'wife beater'.

So it makes it hard to compare unless you dig deeply in to the data, unfortunately for many issues there is no long term data.

I hope this gets stomped on.

An ABC investigation reveals how controversial preacher Wisam Haddad is working with convicted (Australian) terrorists to exploit and fracture the pro-Palestinian movement and radicalise young Australians horrified by the war, and feed the global revival of Islamic State.

There are lots of reasons why it’s worse now, particularly youth crime. Disaffected youth who disengaged from education during covid. Falling standards at schools. Vanished blue-collar or starter jobs. Dysfunctional family circumstances. Encouragement by social media. Criminal adults who exploit teenagers to steal for them. Gang rivalry. Lack of consequences. And of course, drugs.

I’m afraid it won’t. There’s a worldwide movement to spread the Islamic caliphate. All the protests taking place here and in other western countries are organised and funded with that in mind. Sad that well-meaning Australians are being used like this.

This is what I mentioned in the Israel/Gaza thread some months ago, that Islamic State uses protests for recruitmet and authorities should be a bit more switched on this time around.

Ehh, incoming inequality has always been one of the biggest indicators with negative correlation to crime rates per capita. And we happen to be an incredibly unequal society currently.

Another factor IMO is mum and dad at work all day and then CBF parenting when they get home. Isn't good for any kids development. Combined with unmonitored internet access because parenting is easier to just let the kid on iPad or iPhone at all hours is just asking for trouble.

I work in this 'field', all of these kids have multiple social issues at play, rather than just being 'bad". Even the families that on the outside look "good", there are always parenting issues when you pull back the curtain. Sometimes the seeds are planted in early childhood and slowly grow.

Our security services are very much onto it but these groups, and there are very many of them, use the Dark Web and encrypted apps to engage local criminals (think, Adass) and local contacts. They are very au fait with our laws and know their “rights” and how to stay short of law-breaking. The politicians are too afraid of them to even try to enforce “no masks”.

ASIO v MOSSAD
See who catches the culprits first.

One of the teens who was involved in the home invasion, assault and shooting in my post above was involved in the murder of Declan Cutler in 2022.

"In 2022, the teen, then 13, was charged with murdering 16-year-old Cutler as he walked home from a party in Reservoir.
The boy had been travelling with seven others in a stolen car when the group chased Cutler down, stabbing, kicking and stomping on him on a nature strip, where he bled to death on March 12, 2022. The boy repeatedly kicked and stomped on Declan, but did not stab him."

"In September 2023, the boy was found not guilty of murder due to his young age, with Supreme Court Justice Rita Incerti saying: “A review of evidence … leaves open reasonable possibility at the time [the boy] did not know conduct seriously wrong in a moral sense. [He] cannot be found guilty of murder.”

FMD. If a 13 year old doesn't know it's wrong to murder they never will. I'm not a particularly tough on crime person but this case is shocking and Justice Rita Incerti needs to be held accountable. She clearly is not fit to make these judgements. Letting a murderer out and about, when his attitude and behavior tells you he will certainly offend again in a serious way is utter incompetence.

Neo Nazi Thomas Sewell has been arrested at his house after he was semi-attacked by a homeless person. I know why he's in trouble, it looks like he kept punching in to the man when he was trying to shield his head and possibly, it was Sewell who hit first.

There goes his bail.

24yo Daniel had been missing since 2011. His Dad found him on the property, stuck between a wall and a rock, he was there the whole time.

It makes me wonder about other missing persons cases.

Porepunkah shooting live updates: Two police officers killed in rural Victoria as search for shooter continues

Police were executing warrant for historical sex offences

2 police dead, 1 in a critical condition, shooter at large.

"Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch condemned the arrest.

"Sending five officers to arrest a man for a tweet isn't policing, it's politics," she said in a post on X.

"It's time this government told the police their job is to protect the public, not monitor social media for hurty words.""

I don't know if anyone has been following what has been going on with Graham Lineman but he has been the focus of a concerted campaign to silence his views. This seems like some more of the same persecution. The fact that the ABC has quoted His X posts in the above article will tell you that this arrest is a totally over the top reaction.

Is it a requirement of local members in country seats to be criminals? Been a bit of it about lately.

SA MP Troy Bell has just lost his appeal of theft and related charges for events before 2013. He was charged in 2017 and the good folks of Mt Gambier voted him in twice after that! Fools.

Too many grifters in politics, good to see one bite the dust (metaphorically).

The below comes with a warning as this could make you feel sick that people like this exist in our world.

I remember hearing, years ago, about people who develop a horror of one or more limbs or body parts, perfectly healthy, and their only recourse was to get it/them removed, by one means or another. Beyond weird.

You might regret getting behind the paywall for the below shocker today.

SBS had a doco years ago about this, it's a body dysmorphia syndrome of some category. Weird stat they gave was about 300 + people around the world with it, and 150 were Aussies.
Bloke who soaked his leg in dry ice for 8 hrs > amputation. His left leg below his knee didn't belong to him.

Phillips took down a NZ cop too :(.

'Phillips was given immediate first aid but died at the scene, Rogers said. The police officer suffered critical injuries and is undergoing surgery at hospital.'
