2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

He looks like he is completely lost out there , athlete without the footballers brain
Not really liking the little I have seen.
He has height but that’s about it.
Not for me.

Someone could explain to him how we pronounce 'defence' in Australia.
He says 'dee-fense', the 'd50', attack is 'offense'. Go get a job on ESPN if you want to be a yank.
Oh, and my favorite of JRs: He used his creativeness to find a target...
FFS

We're probably only a few years away from a Fox commentator using 'versing'.
I’m concerned with the loss of the definite article.

We are The Saints, not Saints.

It seems to be more prevalent amongst female and younger commentators.

And don’t get me started on “St Kilda Saints”

He’s been ok, he has some things to like. I still can’t see where he fits into our side but as a cordy replacement it’s fair enough.

It’s down to do we still need him and how much will it cost us.
Can’t pay him the big bucks to sit in the vfl.

AS IT STANDS:

SIX Jack’s
FOUR Liam’s
THREE Max’s

Really keen to see how the trade and draft period shakes out, could see some major changes in this space. The addition of a Jevan would be titillating.

Incl. probable trades in, not incl. possible trade outs/delistings I.e. max heath to Melb.
if marshall and heath both leave we can snaffle liam reidy from under the teams nose who is apparently front and center to get him,5 liams 2 maxes and another drive by for carlton

How about Saint Kilda Saints? 🙄

Surely sanity prevails. I didn’t see the need for Aleer when we had Wilkie, Caminiti and Tauru- with Howard another option, with us having just spent a valuable pick in a strong draft on Barrat, and with Keeler showing he can play down back if needed- so why in the wide world we’d feel the need to get him now that we have SOSOS as well is just bewildering to me.

He doesn’t seem any better than Caminiti now, yet Hammer is still just a baby in AFL key position terms, so surely he takes big steps forward over the next two years. Which could make him much better than Aleer is now, when he’s the age Aleer is now.
Agree. Aleer looks like a pure stopper.. We need defenders who can intercept and rebound with speed, Silvagni, Wilkie, even Caminiti can do that, Aleer can’t.. Will be a waste to spend 700k on him (and a 2nd round pick)

I’m guessing it’s because the window has shifted now and we don’t have a lot of time for guys like Caminiti and Tauru to develop let alone Barrat or Keeler. We’re going after 28 year olds, it seems like they think our time is now.

With a new TV deal not happening until 2032, modest increases in the next CBA are more likely than huge jumps.

The players could negotiate a higher percentage of existing revenue but you wouldn't expect that to result in colossal increases.
No guarantee that the next TV deal is significantly more in 2032. Different ball game with DAZN buying out Kayo. We haven’t seen the impacts of that yet.

Box looks like he'll be Steele 2.0 with a hint of Dal Santo. Very excited about him
Hugh looks like being an inside ripper, with outstanding overhead marking for his height/role, but his kicking leaves a lot to be desired, whereas Dal was a surgeon on his left foot and well above average on his non-preferred, while Box seems much more physical and quicker, so I’m not sure there’s much Dal in him.

Agree that he has a lot of the Jack Steele’s about him though.

Agree, Caminiti looks a better prospect.

A genuine Josh Dunkley clone.

That also seems reasonably bizarre to me, given we’ve played finals once in 15 years and missed the 8 by 6 wins this year.

Generally to win a flag you need to be having a prolonged crack at it over a number of years, ideally with a group that mostly came through together, so surely our window doesn’t genuinely open until 2027 at the very, very earliest.

Regardless, as I said, Aleer doesn’t seem to be an upgrade on Caminiti even right now, so with Hammer being two years younger and having barely done an AFL preseason yet, there’s every chance he’s the better player of the two next year anyway.

He regularly played on gun KPF’s this year and wasn’t disgraced, and from at least two less games in defence than Battle, took more intercept marks than the AA KPD, more contested marks (17-11) and had a whopping 140 spoils to Battle’s 66!

Aleer isn’t better than that, surely, despite being two years older and presumably having multiple preseasons under his belt.

And I’d bet a lot of money we aren’t planning on relegating Tauru to the VFL.

So for mine, it makes no sense whenever we’re hoping to contend. 🤷‍♂️
