Roast AFL Nepo Babies Rort

Tears from Carlton, Essendon and Nepo fans coming in waves after Caro's bit on Agenda Setters. What a glorious night.
Holding up the integrity of the league after saving it due to paying off a lot of docklands.

Legit footballing saints that the 21st century failures and nepo babies should be appreciative of because no good St Kilda on 2000s means their clubs don't exist.

If we're getting their first too, I don't think think we would be expecting a best 22 player too, is there much point bringing in an average player?

So listening to Midday Madness on SEN today and nearly lost it when Dwayne called people questioning the NGA's for the fake clubs as 'whingers'. I thought typical schill, doesn't understand that it is hurting the whole competition.
But then some Saints muppet came on spouting 1.8 for TDK, 850k for JSOS, and 750k for Aleer and was complaining about the spend like it was his money.
Dwyane completely shut him down and said, ' Well the Saints are sick of being ordinary and are doing something about it, and I love it'.
If nothing at least Russell is consistent. Reckons NGA's grows the game and the 'whingers' should do something about their list to get better, then was full.of praise for what the Saints are doing.
Still don't agree with his NGA stance, however Russell is no hypocrite and stuck to his guns when questioned on the Saints.
If the AFL allows all teams to have access to NGA players during the 1st round of the draft, that will bring the competition back to a much more even level.

That's not whinging its common sense

What about father son?

I think the game loses something without it. Make them pay fair prices, but still try and get them there.

And how does the AFL combat the fact the northern states split their zones within an entire state between 2 clubs and we are 1 of 10?

Which then proceeds to provide those clubs with significantly more NGAs

AFL clubs are dead set pathetic. Teams are only against immediate changes to rules if it impedes them.

Honestly, its like, what do we have an incredible NGA player available to us in the 2027 draft, oh let's lobby the AFL for the changes to go through in 2028... straight up joke!
Why wouldn't clubs advocate for their best interest?

Obviously lol. St Kilda wouldn’t be complaining about it if we had father/sons and good NGA prospects in the short term

Then do this ... every club is allowed to nominate 5 future Father-Sons from now ..... aftet this F-S is abolished

ie : we nominate 3 Roo kids + Lenny's boy + another ...... anyone outside of that is fair game.

Every club ..... 5 f-s picks going forward .... then its over

All Academy kids are fair game

Brisbane & Gold Coast are now established ..... job done

If the AFL want to continue with the Northern Academies to grow the game in those states then they can pay for it ..... they already pay for 50% and they make enough money to pay for 100%

If the F/S rule gets changed, and James Riewoldt ends up as a draftable prospect, opposition supporters are going to be insufferable on here. Port and Carlton supporters in particular. I'm fine with not having priority access to Roo Jnr if it makes the draft more equal. But that kind of really rudimentary nuance will be impossible to convey to some.

You'd be surprised, do you think if Fincher suddenly rose up the draft boards to be a top 5 pick then we would change our entire submission to the AFL?

The AFL is corrupt, its not an equal playing field and clubs should start lobbying for a fair competition. Clubs like Carlton and Port are literally as bad as the northern clubs.

The more you have to lose, the more you lobby the AFL to have an unfair competition. Its a joke. Asking for a phasing in simply continues the inequalities of a shitty rule longer than it needs to be.

All the while a report by Geoff Walsh into the heartland of Aussie Rules, Victoria, where 65% of all draftees are from, saying competitions are dying and nothing is being done to attract new migrants in the Melbourne growth corridors.
Was presented to Dillon and Kane months ago with a number of recommendations and absolutely nothing has been done.
They crap on about growing the game in the northern states while at the same time allowing the heartland to wither on the vine and actively doing NOTHING to implement the recommendations.
So when you hear the lazy ' NGA grow the game', they are talking out the side of their mouths as they seemingly don't care about any growth in Victoria.

While I agree in principle, some of the difficulty comes in setting a fair price. I, personally, do not trust the AFL as an organisation to come up with a system that is fair. I do not think they're capable. Even if they were, I'm not sure they'd be willing. I think they love putting their finger on the scales.

IMO, at the very least, pick 1 should be without restrictions.

Honestly I was super critical, but with the new point rankings, I think it's pretty fair.

Like now matching a pick 1 bid would cost pick 5 and 15. That's not too far from for trade value.

Personally I think it would suck to see a Daicos or Darcy at another club, even if neither were number 1 picks.

I'd like to see a statistical comparison of now vs 10, 20 and 30 years ago, because to me it appears basketball and soccer have grown massively and AFL has stagnated at junior levels in Melbourne.

But I doubt it's anything the AFL is doing. There's macro issues at play.

My theories:

  • Basketball has a lot going for it that appeal to the modern psyche: shorter games, indoors. Arrive only 10-15 minutes before the game, less time commitment.
  • Soccer is benefiting from 2nd generation Australians in multicultural Australia being more likely to play the sport of their family of origin.
  • Concussions and injuries are less prevalent in both sports, and more appealing to parents.
  • Global viewership from streaming has more eyeballs on those sports than a generation or two ago. More competition for AFL.

As far as relevance to professional level, with a stable or reducing talent pipeline should the AFL continually add new teams and will that impact the quality of the product?

The F/S thing is pretty simple.

Kid nominates as an F/S, pre draft teams have to nominate when they would draft him, his nominated club needs to get a pick within whatever (5 picks/ 10 picks) of said pick to match points (with some sort of a discount).

If the dogs needed to get pick 5 to match Sam Darcy i dont think people would have too much issue with it.

You keep the romance but you ensure the rich dont get richer.

The NGA stuff should probably just go. The AFL can continue to fund the NGA pathways stuff but when the player turns 18 and nominates for the draft hes fair game, if their NGA club wants them bad enough, trade for the right pick.

I wouldn't even care if they needed pick 10. What i can't stand is ,when they have pick 10, they use pick 10 to trade in someone worth pick 10, then they get their F/S with 3rd rounders. Double dipping is what really kills any logic.

Yeh, the points stuff has gotten comical.

If they get a 20% discount but need to get a single pick in the same round to match the points or whatever i think most would be content.

I dont really care if the scrap it altogether but i dont mind a little romance in the game, keeping it seems simple enough so no doubt the AFL will totally **** it up.

Shouldn't even be a discount.

Clubs already get benefit of 1st option. That enough.

This. If you say within 10 picks then it solves the basic inequity. We have teams winning the flag (pick 18 in an uncompromised draft) trading DOWN to take a number 1 pick. This is easy, what club with a couple of picks in the 30's wouldn't trade them up for a top 20 pick? Automatically these clubs are able to trade DOWN from pick 18 to take a number one pick, that's ludicrous! It becomes a lot harder when they have to trade UP, because the club they are trading with now holds the whip hand in the trade.....
