You’re right. He should have done a staged media one.

Calling her or perhaps seeing her when she’s at the club next might have been the way to go.

An apology via text message is a fake apology. Wouldn't expect anything less from a long haired hipster doofus like Bailey.

Needs to go to a retreat for a few weeks to recover to get some serenity.

Needs to do a Rankine and go to Italy for 2-3 weeks!!

2-3 weeks what? rankine was in italy for -10 days max? stretching it out much? at least rankine does not abuse old women doing their job at training. i would rather rankine dish slurs out to opposing players than what ever tf bailey smith was going on about to that lady/

I’m done with the back and forth on this issue
Geelong supporters are insufferable, zero accountability

Can’t wait to see the supportive rhetoric around your other problem once it’s allowed to be released to the public.
That will be some interesting reading seeing you all justify his actions

And we're done with you and you're Geelong related pissing and moaning. No surprise you have ignorant bull shit takes on this given your nonsense in the rort thread.

What an odd thing to do. Smith models for Cotton On stuff doesn’t he? And markets his image on Instagram? I’d have thought he would be accustomed to being photographed, or is he only okay with it when he himself is being paid?
I think there's a pretty obvious explanation: sometimes, especially when he's stressed, he behaves like a ****wit.

FWIW, I do not care if he flips the bird at some abusive moron in the crowd, or makes a joke about getting on the bags. But having a go at a photographer who makes about a sixth of your wage, at an open training session, is just dickhead behaviour.

What I said didn’t come out right. His behaviour is odd and he responds strangely to some situations for no obvious outside reason so yeah he really does seem to have a thing with self control under stress

Pretty concerning if he is stressed getting some work done prior to a training session and lashes out in that manner.

I must be in the minority and sure I am older than most of you on here (in my 50's). The guy makes a living on social media. He is constantly on it...half naked. Constantly promoting himself. Shirtless with abs is his brand. So this whole media pressure line is total bulltish from my perspective.

For mine (and I don't know the bloke from a bar of soap), he's an old fashioned w@nker. Do kids even use that term these days? A flog. A d1ckhead. A well paid one but nonetheless, still a w@nker.
I think there's a bit less tall-poppy-syndrome these days - so he'd still probably be known as a bit of a w***er, but there's also a pretty healthy attitude of, if you've got it, use it. The guy's personal sponsorships will make up a huge chunk of his income and I think we're a bit more accepting of individual expression nowadays.

And this whole mental health card he's played...I take extreme offence at. I assert that he got caught doing coke (or whatever) and played the mental health card. Rankine playing that card was also offensive.
For me, it depends on whether he brings up or blames mental health in any way for his behaviour toward this photographer. If he does bring it up in relation to that, it's a shit move and it makes me angry too. If he separately talks about mental health challenges in an unrelated environment - say, when getting an award - then, IMO, that is a positive thing.

I'm not saying he needs to be penalised or censured. I don't get easily offended and also understand most footballers are not role models. And I make sure my kids understand that. FFS, I played ammos for years and have seen what half the Melbourne legal community gets up to on a Saturday night. Including KC's and partners in the largest law firms. Or at least what they used to get up to when they were in their 20's. Bailey being a d1ckhead and doing "rec drugs" is neither here nor there for me. The mental health card is where he crossed the line...for mine.
Absolutely agree. I don't care if he does coke, it's how he treats others that bothers me.

He can play football though. Good player. Excellent athlete.
Not wrong ;)

Can't remember a time where Geelong had to deal with a 'problem child' of Smith's profile. Especially in the modern era.

Generally the club has had a pretty good reputation for how they have been able to reform troubled stars but I think Smith presents some unique challenges.

The danger with these sorts of guys is they start to get a different set of rules to the rest of the team. It's the mistake Melbourne made with Oliver.

I have the feeling that we may have just been lucky in years gone by that social media isn't what it is now.

Gary Ablett Sr was convicted, in 1990, of punching the shit out of a man who was dating his ex-wife. That sort of thing would get you stood out of the game for a year now.

If they can keep him playing at a high level, which is working so far, then they are doing better than Melbourne did with Oliver - though it’s also early days. Oliver kept it together at Melbourne and was a high-performing athlete for a long time before the cracks set in.

And yes there could be impact down the track if other players start to feel that he is getting kid gloves treatment for behaviour that they wouldn’t be permitted. That was definitely a problem at Melbourne.

I understand the cats wanting to nurture a star player and deal with the complications their own way and away from scrutiny. If he’s going to continue with these outbursts they should exclude him from events where they have invited media or whoever to attend. They should have sent him elsewhere after he started down this road, but might not have become aware until after.

It's not resolved with all Cats fans that's sure. Geelong have a time bomb on their hands and i wonder if a premiership win is worth the effort? I was a big fan until this latest bust up, but Smith has burned a lot of bridges with this latest tirade. This is not what Geelong players do and not what the club is all about. IMO he should get the Khyber pass! Patience has run out!

I have no doubt Chris Scott will support his player publicly, whilst telling him in no uncertain terms behind closed doors, to pull his head right in.
This isn't flipping the bird jokingly with oppo fans. This really is a very poor look, as the lady was just going about her business and doing her job.
Be better Bailey, the world is at your feet, so stop acting like a knob and appreciate the opportunities you are blessed to receive.
