Trac would be wasted on us. Be different if we were Top 4 and a genuine contender.
We need to get our Act together ... and then import a Trac as icing on the cake X-factor .. like Bailey Smith

Edit: GWS ... there's something NQR about that mob. They thought Stringer was the answer..?
Pies, Cats ... and then Daylight (excluding Brissy)

Have gone backwards two consecutive years.

From prelim to second week to first .

7 important players 30+ entering next season. Ward retired

I think they're closer to the crossroads than a premiership right now

Glad to hear the 'news' that Jesse is about to re-sign. As I've said, worth more to us right now than in a trade and has a heap of upside.

Still, I hope we get some competition in and he works his arse off on his flaws over the offseason to become a great player.

Great kid and my son's favourite player.

And we followed a worse trajectory in the same time frame... went from prelim, to first week (in a pathetic display) to well outside the 8 with a bunch of core players in their 30's...

We're in no man's land... too good for bottom 4, not good enough to make the 8.

Intriguing...

"Selected with pick 6 in the 2024 Mid-Season Rookie Draft, Will McLachlan is an exciting young forward out of the Geelong Falcons. The 19-year-old impressed in the Coates Talent League throughout season 2024 being the leading goalkicker at the time of his selection to the Lions list. A consistent finisher in front of goal, McLachlan is a strong overhead mark with speed to burn. With strong work ethic and aptitude to improve he looks set to fit nicely into the Lions squad."

Featured in 6 games this season, but was subbed on or off in 4 of them.

DFA, perhaps? Steakknives in a pick swap? As a MSD pick who hasn't cemented a spot or had a real breakout game, his value would have to be as low as it could possibly get. Contracted for next year, but as a VIC lad maybe he's just not settling in up there and keen to move back home - if so, can't see Brissy fighting to keep him.
One reason they might be ok to let him go is they have Fergus McFadyen on the VFL list who was undrafted NGA list last year but just had a pretty good VFL season in similar role to McLachlan. They may feel his trajectory is looking a little better.

And have a better list of young players than most coming through, as well as plenty of $$$.

I see them up close and I only wish we had some of the talent they have and need I say leaders!

I do like Jesse, despite the vitriol often directed at him. He has the same level of exuberance as ZW and Cotts which I like to see to gee up the teammates.

That could be several Geelong players.

Polkinghorne, Mannagh, Collarjazzknee (because there is no spelling that one correctly), Knevitt, Ivisic, Retschko, Matofai-Forbes, Blicavs, Guthrie, Clohesy, Miers.

Looks like names you’d see playing country football on the weekend.
No those names would be Nugett, two dogs, knobby ,meatball etc

Fair - I'm sure there are also going to be people who really like the look of Duff-Tytler. I'm certainly not enough of an expert to claim my assessment trumps yours or others.

For me though, Duursma looks like a solid Pick 8-12 in most drafts. I'm always wary when a player's selling point is their "versatility". To me, that just says that they're not really one thing or another. He doesn't get much of the ball, doesn't hit the scoreboard in a big way.

I think he'll probably be a fine player - by that I mean comfortably AFL-standard, not a bust, but also not elite. I see a lot of risk that he ends up like his brother, or someone like Will Hayward - floating around, doing a few good things here or there, but not really moving the needle a whole lot for whichever club gets him.

So at Pick 2, or even 1 which is where some have him this year, I think it indicates that this is a terrible year to pay up for a top 2 pick. I reckon we get a potentially more bankable, more suitable and propbably more impactful player with something around Pick 8-10 (pending navigating the whole Dean bid situation).
Carlton would trade for pick 2 if pick 6 was going to be used for Harry Dean

I’m suggesting that Walter and F1 doesn’t make us better than Charlie in the next 5 years. If the club does then I’d be very surprised and if they don’t but did a trade like that anyway then that’s very damming on where the club sees our playing list and our prospects for then next few years. I think he is worth much much more.

We havent been that good with Charlie in his 10 seasons here. :D

No disrespect, I get we all love the club and want to see us improve, but some of us need to take off the blue glasses for a minute and think about what a good deal for Charlie looks like.

I love Charlie and at his best he’s the most entertaining player in the game. No one is saying that you trade him for under just to get him out the door, but there is some serious overestimation of what his worth is.

Charlie had a pretty average year this year. Yes, it’s because of injuries and lack of preseason, but that’s the problem - he had four surgeries this year to clean up a knee that kept him out of the game for a couple of years. Yes, he came back and was a dominant player for a few years, but there is no guarantee that he gets back there.

He’s said twice he wants to stay - both times where when he couldn’t avoid the media. It’s what he has to say because he knows that he probably can’t get out of his contract, and he probably does have to come back next year. But he doesn’t want to be here next year.

He has told the club, face to face, I’d be happy to play somewhere else. He’s met with an opposition coach. He’s authorised his manager to leak meetings and spread stories, or at the least hasn’t shut him down. He jetted off overseas and hasn’t posted a socials message trying to shut this down.

A deal probably can’t be done, as yes, we will want overs. But overs for Charlie isn’t as high as you all seem to think. He’s 29 at the start of next season, has a pretty significant injury history and is coming off a down year. The multiple first rounders is fanciful. So is all the first choice Swans and GC players, as is Butters.

A ‘win’ in a trade sense is a deal that improves both teams. It’s not about the picks, points, or players - it’s about coming out as a better team. Adelaide went from 15 to 1 this year adding 3 best 22 players that weren’t big names - the kind of players folks around here would turn their noses up at. Same folks who still think we didn’t get enough back for Kennedy last year because he did alright in a team that still missed finals. Charlie for Walter, and someone else in the 23-26 age bracket would be a more than fair deal that improves both teams.

I don’t have my head in the sand, but I’m realistic about what a good deal for us could look like. I think the most likely option is that Charlie stays - mainly because the club knows that they have to be seen to ‘win’ to keep members happy, and a deal like that is too hard. I doubt he will ever play at the level he did a few years ago with us, but he’s still box office when he’s on. It’s either that or a deal that everyone here hates, but actually improves us in the long run. No matter what we do, half of us are going to say we did the wrong thing.

Couldn't care less about the optics of being seen to win the trade to appease members and the fan base. What we need is to make the 'team' better. Hopefully 'Carlton First" is more than just the latest club mantra and it actually means something.

Position of need for gold coast too and didn't play..... Lot of unearned faith because he was an early draft pick aaaaaaaaaaand nothing else....
Might be late to this convo but Ballard is the Suns' best intercepting defender and only missed the finals because he did an acl earlier this year.
