Charlie doesn't like thought of a diminished pay check.

Now that the front loading stops a d he's on a much more club friendly contract.

He was fine when we front loaded and he got more than his contract stated.

Why else do you think so many club stalwarts want to move clubs all of a sudden?
Absolutely this!!

It is funny, Geelong make a prelim every other year with a dozen 30+ year olds in their best side, have recruited their fair share of “dickheads” along the way too, but our supporters will turn up their nose up at a 33 year old Steven May for chips.

Still playing good footy. An upgrade on JSOS. You get 2-3 years out of him to protect and teach O’Farrell and Dean and if there is any hope of an instant bounce back to finals he can be a big part in it.

If Voss and Wright can’t handle his personality well what hope do we have.
Hes exactly what our team has been missing for a very very long time. Personally hope we get him and he goes off at the soft cockatoos in our team.

Call me old fashioned but there was a time when you might expect a player who has signed a long term contract to a team just who has played final 2 of the last 3 years, and who has been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars while for playin just 15 games in 4 years, might decide to take the hard option and work his ar$e off to ensure that club compete's for a premiership rather than try and force their way out to grab a premiership elsewhere
I don't think there has ever been a time when a player has been expected to remain at a go nowhere dead end club. Particularly if they are one of the leagues top players. He has been part of a rebuild and has seen what that is like and he would be sceptical of us doing that and the possibility of this rebuild resembling the one which was going on when he arrived at the club. Knowing he hasn't got forever in the game and that he is well past the half way point of his career, he would be looking at whether he thinks he can win a premiership with Carlton or whether he has a greater opportunity to go elsewhere.

Remembering that a few years ago many players bought into the idea that we were building and about to become a premiership threat, instead the opposite has happened and what the players brought into, on the back of having faith in the club and those administrating and managing it, has failed and the club is back rebuilding the list.

Three years ago Charlie and his manager were ecstatic to have his contract extended by 6 years to the end of 2029, and why not.

He’d been out of the game for the best part of two seasons, multiple surgeries, problems with screws or whatever, and after 6 months into 2023 the club continues to have faith and back him in with a generous contract extension.

I respect you as a poster gb, but fmd “the club needs to earn the right to keep Curnow and change his mind”?

Sorry you’ve lost me here - it’s Charlie that needs to pull his finger out and repay Carlton for having faith in him, nursing him through several unproductive years on the sidelines, and offering him a six year extended contract.

The players have shown faith in the club, coaches, list managers etc and they have let them down. We were and should have been challenging for the flag, not rebuilding, that's not on the current playing group, that is on our coaches and list managers and also our head of football.

A lot has also changed in Melbourne. I don't live there but travel there a lot and have for over 20 years and all I can say is things have got bad in a lot of ways. I can see that it's not just the club but people, particularly at his age change and mature and want something different in life. I can see why he would want out of the place as well.

Bunkum! We have or will have the makings of a top side. Curnow has been a big investment and needs to play his part. It is a team game, no arm up and kick it to me BS.

He is a massive part of the problem, when he could be a driver for success…

I agree, but players may not. They would have a lot of questions. We have proven nothing in our history recent and long term that this will be true.

His current contract would go with him. Most likely.

Maybe he should pull his own weight and stand up when the team needs him, instead of being lazy and dropping the head when the ball gets away from him.

What is this high school football?
He's been winning colman's so he's no slouch. He's struggled with fitness and injuries this season. Wayne Carey only kicked 25 goals in 1997, he kicked 80 the following season. People need to get over this.

No **** that, he’s one of the best in the team and he and his mates at the top of the playing tree need to actually perform and we won’t be a shit team.

flipping sick of the tail wagging the dog, onfield performance is where it’s at, anything else is just excuses and a lack of accountability

Our top end is not our issue. We don't have the players, we have been too slow when adjusting the list for modern footy. Looks like we are having a crack now, should have been 3 or 4 years ago though. Injuries and other issue played a big part in our season this year.

People reckon Geelong players are the way they are because they are tougher or better cultured or whatever. Sure to a point. But the club promises a lot to the players and it delivers and the players return the favour. Our club has mismanaged the list and has sunk to the current level. I've been callin this coming for years. It's not the current playing group, it's the club. Clubs which promise and can't deliver lose players.

Curnow can go to Gold Coast or Geelong, play under a proven coach in a finals side which both look good for next year, play for a flag or... He can stick with one of the worst clubs of the last 20 years which has proven nothing and looks to have peaked with this list back in 2023 and is now rebuilding trying to catch up to the rest of the competition because it did not pick up that modern footy is played completely differently to how it was played in 2021. He's 28 with a history of injuries. He playes in a forward line which is structured so the defence goes to him and crowds him, he plays in a side that does not move the ball well. Melbourne has become an insane islyum, Geelong, Gold Coast or Sydney are probably more appealing, especially if you surf.

Nail. Head.

What has he done and contributed to ensure we are successful? He’s in the leadership team, did he show leadership? Our forward line was a joke, did he take them under his wing and coach on field, on the track, show leadership?

He apparently chucked a tanty because he was told just as much.

How he was put in the leadership side, I have nfi.

I don’t understand the criticism of Cerra’s kicking. He’d be one of the few players in our team who consistently hits targets and makes good decisions. He’s a decent kick off both feet.

He fell off a cliff with that this year Benny...

Normally, I'd consider him one of the better kicks in the team, but this season was very bad for the most part.

Yeah, it’s like he’s checked out the size of other players’ and not happy his isn’t as big…

Do Sydney actually have multiple first rounders this year and next as the article suggests?

I think they meant multiple by combining 2025 + 2026 1sts...

But to answer your question, no, they don't have multiple 1st rounders this year.

They currently have pick #9 (which will get pushed once compo picks are handed out) and pick #27.
