I'd be shocked and extremely disappointed if if we traded or delisted George Stevens and I seriously don't see it happening. Our coaches and MC are way to footy savvy for that to happen as the 'young bull' and highly talented George still has heaps of upside. In fact, I can see him putting in a big off season, concentrating on his running speed and endurance. Folks that think he's to slow to play AFL have got this wrong as his talent and sheer determination will win the day and the doubters will find out in due course.

Our whole game plan is based on running capacity and positional flexibility. George has neither at an AFL level. He might be able to improve his endurance with a couple of pre seasons but it is still going to be a handicap at AFL level. I can't see him being a long term player for us under CS. He has other strengths that might work in a team that is willing to work around his deficiencies ala Ned Long at the Pies but CS won't even pick a ruckman that can't run, we've gone the hard pass on players like Witts and Meek when we have needed a ruckman and they were the "obvious" ones available on the market.

Having a strong side comes with the down side that you lose players that you might want to keep. If we are in a window then there is probably a balance of how many we can have that will take time and can play now.

From the players side..if he is getting offers from another club , he may think there are more chances elsewhere especially if its multiple years contract If his current club rated him then they would offer a similar contract.

If Geelong do not see him a strong part of our best side in 26 then it would not surprise that we lose that player. So do we keep all of Knevitt , Clark , GS ..etc there will be some players that look for chances elsewhere just fact of limited list spots

Danger showed the difference a high quality inside mid makes to this team. I'd hard pass on Curnow, he's lazy and would cost a lot in salary and players/picks and focus everything on getting a high quality mid in 12 months, whether that be Butters or someone else. Take Marshall provided the cost isn't too great, but walk away if they want a best 23 player. SDK and COS can set us up down back for a decade plus, Marshall is a stop gap for a couple of years.
Sam Edmund reporting that Charlie is willing to take a pay cut to get to Geelong.

None of it matters if Geelong can't satisfy a trade request with Carlton, though.

I see 🤡 🤡 on Facebook saying, "if Max Holmes isn't part of the convo, we ain't even talking."

For Charlie to say this, would he have to have a level of certainty that he could get to Geelong?

I know it's not exactly like the Merrett situation, but it still would be awkward if the deal wasn't done.

I have absolutely no idea how the deal could get done. Absolutely none.

We have very little we'd be willing to offer. Charlie made his bed when he signed his last contract.

I feel for him if the place has turned toxic and he's now stuck there, but that's 100 percent on him.

Curnow could be willing to play for us for a packet of chips and a coke it still isn't happening as Carlton will not accept what we would offer and we won't offer what they will accept and we simply don't need him.

In terms of importance our forward line is by far the least important area to improve.

1 Ruck (Marshall fixes this if we get him)
2 Midfield (No one available this year really unless we want to trade the world)
3 defence (No one available that we have been linked to)
4 forward line (i would rather try and get Cadman or another young Key forward from somewhere that would cost a lot less)

Now if Curnow was 26 or so sure we should 100% try but nope he is to old with a contract that hamstrings him.. He should have come to us a few years ago when he was a FA and we were into him.

Curnow's only 28 at the moment (will be 29 when the season starts). Players are playing well into their 30's these days and their prime period can extend out to around 32yo compared to roughly 28yo several years ago. I agree that we most likely don't have what it will take to get him, but I still think he has plenty of footy left in him injuries permitting. Will be a great pickup for someone.

I would love to see George make it. He seems like a ripping kid and I like the idea if a big bull midfielder feeding the ball to the runners on the outside but in our side you need to be able to run. George has already put in big off seasons off his own bat trying to improve his running and his endurance. Depends if the club views he can develop it if given more time.

I don't see Curnow's salary as the issue here. It's more to do with whether Geelong has the right picks/players to get a trade done with Carlton, especially after getting Worpel & Marshall into the club. But it's great to see just how keen Curnow is to join the Cats.

that are only for players that are fairly durable and less injury prone which curnow has proven not to be.

If your looking for a laugh 😃 read the comments on the Charlie Curnow trade page 😆 🤣
All supporters loosing there 💩 if Curnow comes to Geelong

I cannot possibly see how we can get Curnow and what it would cost.. so will just see what happens I guess, feels maybe like more smoke from managers to get better offers elsewhere? But that said talking pay cuts isn't really doing that is it..

One thing people need to stop worrying about is what Carlton supporters think it will cost us, they are ALWAYS going to ask for a lot for a gun who is under contract still... as would we in that exact same situation.
What will happen, happens.
Stuff to worry about in a week or so, not this week

Yes he is only 28 but who does he replace in our forward line?

Miers Cameron Close
Danger Neale Stengle

With others waiting in the wings like OH to replace Danger
Cameron has at least 2 years left

I would much rather use the 3 first rounders+ or a best 22 player and a first that Carlton would ask for on an actual area of need.

Bloody hell this is an easy trade IMO.
They can have a choice of 1 or 2 of these blokes.
Ollie Henry, Ted Clohesy, Mitch Knevitt & Ollie Wiltshire plus this years 1st rounder (use it for Dean) and next years 1st (use it for Walker)
For Curnow and their 2025 3rd rounder which is pick 44 and next years 2nd rounder.
Thank ya mother for the rabbits.

Mitch Knevitt signed a one year extension only a few days ago.
I doubt that he is going anywhere.

Of course, this is if Kingy's information is correct.

At this stage how do people think we will end up delist/retire/trade out wise?

Whiltshire delist
Clohesy trade(really don't want to)
Guthrie retire
Duncan retire
Bews trade to the west (rumoured)

I think we will want to move on at least 2 more

Options are

Stevens
Ivisic
Pike

The rest i am thinking we keep unless they want out

Charlie Curnow would be a AA. Playing a roving half forward for the boys in hoops.
Too fast... Too tall... Too hard to match up.
Would out mark, out run 80% of HB flankers in the league.
A Great mismatch that'll give oppo coaches and teams nightmares.
Can we keep him on the park? That's the $64 dollar question.
Healthy... He'd be a Jezza version 2.
29yo next year.. so you'd expect 2 great years and another 2 pretty good ones.
4 years on a nice team friendly contract.
Where do we sign??

Where do I sign?

For those who want Curnow don't worry about salary or trade cost just simply answer this.

Who do we drop for him

Miers, Cameron, Close
Danger, Neale, Stengle

Miers is our best play maker period
Close is underrated
Stengle is our most dangerous small forward
Cameron is simply better
Neale is our future and would demand a trade if we dropped him as he should
Danger is our Captain and heart and soul

No thanks to any

We'd have to completely change somebody's role.

Something like Miers becoming a full time midfielder rather than part time. Jez starts playing a Richo style role off the wing. Neale develops his ruck craft and becomes more 50/50 like Thilthorpe.

It could work, but as you say, we have more urgent needs elsewhere, and we'd already have even more players making way in those scenarios if we're getting Worpel and Marshall too.

I feel for Charlie, and he's certainly earning my adulation being so desperate to play here - but he had his chance.

The only way any of this happens (and I don't want it to happen) is if we are going to let SDK go to St Kilda for Marshall + picks, and even maybe letting Lawson go too if he thinks that's where he'll be longer-term.

It's just too hard otherwise. Not only do we not have the picks, we barely even have the list spots.

Guys like Clohesy, Ivisic, and Pike only open up rookie slots, and Mullin will take one of those anyway.

Interesting times.

He is one of the best forwards in the game... We'd squeeze him in.

Not sure we'd need to do much tweaking TBH.
What we pride ourselves on is we are adaptable and our players multi positional.
We gotta keep evolving. Changing our set ups, game plans & strategies as we can't stay stagnant.
Also... by the time the new season starts and the ball gets bounced in 2026.
Two of those you mentioned.
Danger will be 36.
Jezza will be 33.
I'd say it would be the last year for Danger.
Add to that he'd play about 15 games if he remains healthy.
With Jezza not far behind.
When you get the calibre of player that CC is into your club.
You will find a spot for him quite easily.
Thats my take.
I might be on my Pat Malone but quality players when they are willing to come, you accomodate them.
But this is all hypothetical stuff with plenty more to play out.
Sit back and enjoy the ride.
