2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Fairly sure Carroll is only contracted to this year. Footywire has him as UFA as of this year (having been deslisted). I believe the AFL article about about next years free agents might be wrong.
I think the AFL article is as official/accurate as it gets. Footywire is unofficial and crowdsourced, expect it to be updated accordingly

Back on to trade news. Is there a possibility that we swap Collard for Liam Ryan? We have stuff all trade capital if 7 for Flanders is an option and whatever left goes on Alir.
I am not oversold on Collard and maybe going home may be a win win for both players and clubs.

Think this year due to weak draft more player swaps may be in order.

Would like to keep Byrnes played enough seniors to be on the list for 2026. He would definitely get a game at WCE....so that may get the deal done with Ryan.

Really media should hang their collective heads in shame over the reporting on Wilkie.

Worries me that Kane C is positive on Saints hell would freeze over before he saw positives on Saints.
Seriously hope not.
Still very young, but shown some really good signs.

Phew!

Let's recap:

  • Spent years tuning salary cap for a push on FA
  • Got TDK to nominate us as FA, under pressure from Carlton, no cost bar salary after a few years of groundwork
  • Got JSOS to nominate us as FA, under pressure from Carlton & WB, no cost bar salary after a month of groundwork
  • Got Liam Ryan to nominate us.
  • Got Leek Aleer to nominate us.
  • In the final 2 for Flanders nomination
  • Resigned MVP Nas (B&F winner) under serious pressure from Adelaide & PA
  • Resigned Windhager (5th in B&F) under serious pressure from Melb & NM
  • Resigned Wilkie (2023 AA, B&F winner 2024, 2nd place 2025) under semi-serious pressure from WB
Think I've missed something, but bear in mind trade period hasn't started yet!

Take a bow SOS and Gubby, I was wrong and I couldn't be happier.

Sack SOS.

If Wilkie has met with the Dogs as reported than I don't believe he can be Captain next season or into the future. Thoughts?
Sadly I agree, sounds like his agent has done his job milking more money from us but that's not the actions of someone committed to leading the club.

Happy to keep Steele as captain, I'm probably in the minority but I think he can get back to some of his better footy if he starts injury free

Keeley Frawley, Jack Steele, Zoe De Koning, Ollie, then the longer bows Ben Long, Max Knoble, Biggy, Adams and Leo Connelly.

Danny's daughter, St Kilda captain, Tom's sister and St Kilda announcer/Mafia.

Surely he wont announce it on the B&F day/nighy but hopefully we'll get some good news on Thursday!

Apologies if this specific post has already been uploaded, but I am confused. What does “increased its offer” mean? Did Wilkie extend and has signed on an increased offer? Or have we just increased his salary for the next two years he was contracted? Or something else?

If we just upped his salary when already contracted without getting something in return, then that would be suboptimal.

Can anybody shed any light on this, please?

Hell no. His upside is large if he makes it as a regular.
Where does Hastie fit in the 2026 pecking order, do you reckon?

Is it possible it's coming from him wanting to explore his options or head back Geelong way?

Could there be a Marshall/Hastie combined deal in the works?

My issue with retaining Steele is that it felt like at times this year he was given a free ride in the midfield despite poor form.

I have no problem with him in if he's playing well, but if his output is no better than Boxshall or Garcia then there's no point to him in the side. I'd rather Macrae play the aging senior midfield role.
